No not Del Mar

Image
Being an avid horse race fan there is disturbing news out of Del Mar. The rumor is the DMTC is cutting Mondays from their race schedule. It's just part of the economic struggles that are out there...Let's hope they find a way to keep it going... Poor Lefty...he just doesn't have the mental thing to win in the match play. He again frustrates his fans with his bizarre way of thinking through a golf course. Kudos to the 19 year old who marches on to the elite eight with his dumping of giant killer, Tiny Tim Clark...I am talking of Rory Mcllroy. Watch out for steady eddie Geoff Ogilvy... Winners in the NBA last night include PDX, Denver, Mavs, Suns, which just means that Portland is keeping pace...the Spurs did lose which does help... As we get closer to the NCAA hoop playoffs, SDS and USD have their hopes totally pointed towards their league playoffs, to qualify...small chances there... And my negative for the day...the Pads signed Joe Thatcher again! What? And my ...

Strasburg struts his stuff

Image
The phenom of the SDS Aztecs struck last night versus Nevada. The righty struck out 16 and led his squad to a 5-2 win. 7 times he was clocked at 102 mph!!!! Anyway, he is considered as the no. 1 player in this year's MLB draft. His next scheduled appearance is Thursday at USD...I plan on being there... Oh my, Deja Vu....Tiger eliminated in round two by Tiny Tim Clark. Clark played effortlessly and easily whupped Woods. One thing people have not been talking about, was that Clark was repeatedly out driving Tiger. Is he back 100%?...I don't think so...the driving distance must be addressed... USD hoops got a huge win last night over Portland in a much better effort than they've shown in the last 3 weeks... Wow! The pick 6 at Santa Anita was hit by 2 for $930,365.60!!! So the Suns fire Terry Porter, decide to return to running 101, refuse to trade Amare, lose Amare to an eye injury for 2 months, rely on 30+ year old guys to run run run..., get the wrath of Charles and Kenny, a...

He's Baaack

He's back! Tiger looked like he has never skipped a beat. I watched closely to his leg movements and fear not he is completely there. On with the tourney just outside of Tucson...match play is an incredible format to play and watch. I prefer this to medal and it has high drama every day. A few years ago we had tickets to this tourney and Tiger was beaten the day before and we had the best views ever in a set of golf matches. The problem was...no Tiger. Yesterday Lefty went OT and won, Sergio got beat by Charl Schwartzel (?), PP beat Padraig, and AK beat Wen Tang Lin 7 and 5...watch out for AK in this event...oh yes, and Tiger won 3 and 2 over Brendan Jones (Washington Nationals)... Real interesting article on Tony Gwynn in the Trib today. The bulk of it was the question of 'roids in his latter days of play...he said he was naive to it...that it was amphetamines when he began...like I've said many times before, it's a game of cheating... USD hoops hosts Portland ...

Spring Leagues start today!

Image
MLB starts its Grapefruit/Cactus Leagues today! One of my favorite times of the year for sure. I will always remember watching the Dodgers in Vero Beach with my son when he was but 12 years of age...so cool. Now...the Pads have a new group ready to go and we are all eyes as we watch their progress... The President left no doubt about his dominance last night in his 1st speech to the nation. I hope you watched... The LA Open (Northern Trust Bank) controversy is becoming a big thing...as it should. By the way, Greg Norman echoes my thoughts about reducing the payouts for the PGA tourneys... USD and SDS have not finished their seasons the right way...losing games and players as they complete their years. The golf world is a buzz because Tiger is back in the mix...Got to admit I'll be watching! Is it just me, but is this NBA season going too long? Enjoy the sun...

4 things I gotta get off my chest

Image
I've got 4 things I have to address: 1. I'm not a mind reader or somebody who can predict the future...but the stock market is going to have a huge day today...2/24/2009...I'm not sure but we may have hit rock bottom yesterday...if you have the $ go for it... 2. As I said yesterday how did the LA Open have so much money to give to the PGA? Well as it turns out the backer of it is none other than the Northern Trust Bank from Chicago and it got $ from the government...the perks they sprung on the privileged were off the charts, if you can believe what TMZ is reporting...why is this allowed? If it is true... 3. MLB continues on with no apparent sanctions on their 'roids boys. Isn't it about time the commissioner takes a stand and tells the baseball world where MLB is, what's going to happen, what about the records, what's going to be done to the 'roids boys....naw the top brass is going to not say anything ...thinking it is going to let the fire simme...

Just a walk in the park...

So it is Lefty in LA...but it wasn't without a collapse and a resurrection...all in the final round. He had moments of a hack and then put together a charge in the last 3 holes to pull off the million dollar+ victory. How the heck do they get so much money in these days? Good on him and he'll need his A game for next week...goes who's back... I still can't believe Dunleavy keeps his job with the Clips...they are turrible! They did the show up and cash the their checks job in Portland yesterday. Absolutely the most embarrasing of all teams in the league. So you as a fan, buy a ticket for $100 dollars and you get the Clips...get him out of there and start young with some fresh talent... I got my draft in the fantasy baseball (my whole life is a fantasy some say) league and my SS is Khalil Greene...some type of joke on me I suppose. Anyway I switched him for Edgar Renteria and it's all good now. Greene is the most dropped player in all of the fantasy leagues... So I ha...

LA Open (?)

So Lefty called his coach in Vegas. Hey man I need some tweaking...get over here now. So Butch catches the red eye and meets up in the am...voila! Lefty rebounds with a 62...has a 4 stroke lead on the field...only in LA baby! In the final group is none other than the guy who has the sweetest swing in the game...Freddy Couples. So are you following the college basketball nationally? Not me. The top schools are always back east and is that the way it ends up? I'm not thinking Duke and NC are the best in the land...again I don't really know. The Pac-10 is very mediocre with the mighty Dux finally getting a win...even the Beavs have had wins... So tonight is the Oscars...Slumdog is my pick for whatever it's in. Really who cares who wins...it's all about the fashion and the statements that people make...what a world we live in... A lot of talk about where is Osama BL is lately...he's a goner in a cave in Afghanistan...he had such a massive ego he would have had ...
