Bob Hope

Image
Pat Perez is continuing his trek to his first PGA victory at the Bob Hope. He picked up 5 more shots and sits at 25 under...he played the toughest(?) of the courses yesterday and weathered it. By the way the host for the event is none other than Arnold Palmer. The tourney unceremoniously dumped last year's, George Lopez, for no published reason...strange stuff there. King James and his Cavs survived a much improved Warrior group last night on LeBron's last second shot. You must watch him play. He is on the way up and is not close to his potential. The collegiate baseball season has started down here. San Diego Christian played a twin bill and it does seem odd to see that now. Another week to go for the Super Bowl and most all the pundits have the Steelers in a rock and roll win. Nobody has given the Cards much credence in any of the playoff games. I am not a pundit but I have them winning. Is it just me or is Australia becoming a weird place. The sharks are feasting, ...

SD lineup

Image
After the long off season here is the apparent lineup for the Pads: c- Nick Hundley 1b- Adrian Gonzalez 2b- David Eckstein 3b- Kevin Koozmanoff ss- Luis Rodriguez lf- Chase Headley cf- Jody Gerut or Scott Hairston rf- Brian Giles p- Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Cha Seung Baek, Josh Geer, Wade LeBlanc setup- Clay Meredith closer- Heath Bell All in all not a horrible one due to the divorce, money constraints, public humiliation of the Peavy deals, on and on. Eckstein adds speed and spunk, Luis adds more offensive punch than Khalil, and Heath is much better than Trevor. USD got thumped by St. Marys last night only scoring 42 points! Not acceptable and Bill has got to go back to the drawing board and clean that up. Pat Perez scorched the desert with a 20 under after 36 holes. He is not a likable guy and a tough interview. There is a long way to go as the Bob Hope lasts 5 rounds. Another NBA guy got the axe. Marc Iavaroni was 33-90 over 2 seasons and the Grizzlies have had enough. Not a prize j...

So the Pads did not get Brad Ausmus as their backup catcher and had to settle for Henry Blanco, mostly from the Cubbies. He has a nice ability to throw out runners and is a good fit. The link is to help Hundley...isn't that what coaches are for? Regardless, we are still the bargain basement team of '09...sorry fans but true. I watched the Cavs/Blazers game last night and came away feeling what I have for some time...the PDX team is on the outside looking in...LeBron is and Kobe is, everyone else is not! Portland will get there but not this year. Shaq can't move like he used to and he is scary now. He collides with you and he hurts you...I would not want to be near him. He should be getting more flagrant fouls than he does. It had to be sweet for Mike's Knicks to beat his old Suns... SDS did beat the Lobos and it was a real nice win. Keep watching the Aztecs...now if they can win on the road. I like the way the Chargers go about finding the missing parts for thei...

The closer

Image
The Pads have finally done the right thing in avoiding arbitration and signing Heath Bell as their closer. He has earned the right do so...and actually should have been the one last season. Anyway, I like the last 2 things the Pads have done...ie. Eckstein. Still gotta love the Hoke's SDS coaching hires. He has surrounded himself with quality guys. Now he needs the players to recognize it. Coach McHale has turned around the Wolves...somehow. I follow this team because of the Love kid, who I coached against back in Orygun. He was a man child in the high school ranks for sure. Best outlet pass I had seen live since Corey Badger of a team out of Corvallis. The Wolves also have the PDX reject Sebastian Telfair who is getting playing time...and a boatload of technical fouls! The national pundits did a bit of coverage about Greg Oden's huge game against the Bucks the other night. Hold on everyone...Milwaukee is woeful inside. Yet he did produce. The jury is out. SDS ho...

President Obama

Image
All else fails to compare to the inauguration of our president, Barack Obama. When you think of how small a thing sport is in the grand scheme of things you then realize that it is a privilege. So many people have the good fortune of playing sports, many for a nice salary, that is misunderstood as being bigger than it actually is. Some athletes use it as a platform, some as a stepping stone, some as a money making venture, some as fun, some as a form of a workout, some misuse the power that it gives, and on and on... We have the great fortune of being part of the greatest country of the world and sport is a small derivative of that. OK...the Lakers showed LaBron and his Cavs that they are not on the same level this year. It was so cool to see Kobe get down and work defensively like all defenders do in high school. Without a doubt different than the regular season paths chosen by most NBA teams. The Blazers did a number on the Scott Skiles Bucks. Greg Oden put up huge numbers and...

And the finals are set...

Image
Well I got the teams right for the first time this year I think. And the games were good games. The Cards showed the only strong offense of the 4 in the finals. The Pitt/Balt game was ferocious. It was really a good game...the best team won. And even though the line is 6 1/2 for the Steelers I have the Cards my favorite. Do not bet the farm. Zach Johnson (Masters Champ) won in Honolulu. He is the real deal. Has a decent long game and can putt lights out. He won over Adam Scott (long hitter and dating Kate Hudson...who isn't?) and David Toms(great short game)... It's MLK day and I am going to take it off... I've decided we should have a BSBNFLS. Instead of having a playoff the pundits will vote for the top 2 in the NFL championship. After a lot of deliberation I have put my votes for the Indy Colts (Peyton is all world) and the Dallas Cowboys ( America's team)...hey who needs a playoff?

My top ten

Image
So here's my top ten things I have been thinking about: 10. The promo for the Buick at Torrey has Tiger in their pictures. He's not coming. Why don't they revise that and put who is coming? Isn't that false advertising? Oh well... 9. How in the world can Ann Coulter still get gigs on any TV show? She has gotten to the absurd and is the most belligerent person I have seen in the last 10 years. Get rid of her! 8. USD's Bill Grier has righted his ship and got the Torreros on a straight path to the playoffs again...well that's maybe getting ahead of it all...but they are back to their winning ways. Cool. 7. The PDX Blazers continue their mediocre play. They shot like 51% from the FT line in their OT loss to the Bobcats...BRoy was the biggest culprit going 3/10...I'm still not a convert to Nate...let's say the jury is out. They still can't defend the pick and roll...they switch all screens leaving huge mismatches...the feed on the game yesterday was from ...
