Let the Bowl Season begin

Navy vs. Wake Forest to begin the $ bowl season. It's all about the $. The most intriguing is the BYU/Arizona game in Vegas tonight. MWC has been doing a number on the Pac-10 thus far this year...let's see if that trend continues. Cleveland went in to Denver and whupped up on the home team. LeBron is really, I mean really, a super player now. I'm not a fan of missing your college days, but he has survived and has developed as one of the elite. Boise St. versus TCU here on Tuesday in the Poinsettia Bowl. BSU gets no respect and it's a shame. Don't see much of a match here. USD disposed of Academy of the Arts by 30. Yes you read that correctly. Next week they take on Culinary Art Institute. Are you talking cupcakes? My pix today: Navy over WF, you can't stop that offense... Fresno St. over CSU, Bulldogs tuff South Florida over Memphis, cuz BYU over Arizona, MWC over Pac-10 continues Still snowing?

It's a sad day

With a real heavy heart I must break the news that my old principal and friend Mike Kolb has died. He was an unbelievably great administrator and even better person. He knew how to listen and govern as well as anyone I knew. I feel such an empty feeling in my system right now. He will be greatly missed... On a brighter note the Blazers looked like the real deal in knocking off the Suns last night. Shaq did play and had one of his better nights. However, the emergence of a new super star, Brandon Roy, is the key item here. 50+ points and key hits just put him on the map for even the east coasters... USD plays a Theater of the Arts school tonight. I am not kidding... Enjoy your life people.

100th Post

So this is the century mark for this blog. It started as a voice about the Padres and now covers all areas. Maybe because it is frustrating to discuss the present predicament of SD. Last night I witnessed some real athletes. We went to see the Dancing With the Stars tour. What a fabulous display of speed, agility, quickness, coordination, teamwork...all the things that you look for in great athletes. I am talking the men and women. They performed for 2 1/2 hours with non-stop action. Unbelievable!!! The Suns visit the Blazers up in the snow tonight. I hope Shaq plays as PDX needs to compete and win against the best. Tomorrow I start the 2nd 100...

Take a Stand

Let me be the first to say that I don't like what I hear of the bloke that SDS hired for it's football coach. Brady Hoke...starts off with a hard core approach to his returnees of the previous program. Old school stuff, including no caps, no jewelry, be on time...wait, that part I like. But in lieu of saying he is going to work hard he comes on with "your going to do it my way, or there is the door." I am one that you prove yourself by hard work and that in itself will dictate how the players will follow you...or not. He took 5 years to finally get Ball St. to a winning situation. He doesn't have that much time in SD. Strike one... The Blazers ran into a very tired Kings team and ran them off the court last night. Enjoy the snow...

Light at the end of the tunnel

It is official, the Moores are trying to sell their Padres. Finally this team can begin to get out of the shell of their divorce and rebuild this proud structure of the team. By selling! Mark Cuban is out there and I'm hoping he is in the buying mood. The Pads are saying that Jake is staying. Maybe it's because there is hope in the selling of the club. SDS has hired the bloke from Ball St. Already there are people saying he is not the right guy as he is a defensive coach and his offensive coach is not coming with him. Hopefully he is energetic and loves to recruit. That is D-1 football... I was reading of the power rating of the 30 teams in the NBA. If your team is in the bottom half you may lose your head coach...it seems the trend. The Cavs, the Celts, and the Lakers are the leaders. The turrible Thunder (Supersonics) and the Wolves share the worst ranking. In the off season of the PGA a small rift as re-emerged between Tiger and Lefty(FIGJAM). Tiger's caddie slipped up a...

Addendum

The Kings just fired Reggie Theus. You got to be kidding! Who's next? That's 20 % of the coaches thus far...

Rain!

OK, it never rains in sunny California...not! What a miraculous comeback by the Bolts yesterday. Scoring 2 td's in the last 1 1/2 min. to upend the Chiefs was sweet. Throw in the loss by the Broncos and the playoff run remains alive. Now Denver hosts the hapless Bills and SD travels to TBay...still a long shot. If the wins go the Chargers way the last game versus the Broncs would be for the playoff spot... One of the cooler items of the weekend happened in New Orleans at the Fair Grounds race track. NO had snow and the winner of their 8th race was a horse named "Artic Jet." It was a 98-1 long shot... SDS is set to hire Brady Hoke as their football coach. It appears to be a good one as he resurrected the Ball St. program. Can he recruit? Is it just me or is the officiating in the NFL been awful this season? Happy birthday to my son...just 28 years young!

Sunny Sunday

Well it's supposed to be raining, but it's sunny! I can't tell you how big an upset the USD win at Orygun was last night. They are missing 3 starters! I watched SDS yesterday against St. Mary. Both teams aren't bad. St. Mary has a legit big man. Another NBA coach bit the dust. Mo Cheeks got the axe by the 76ers. No talent there and what on earth are they thinking? It's easier to remove one guy than move a bunch of players... The Bolts give it a try at KC this am and are favored. Still can't figure that out, but will watch it closely. Sam Bradford won the Heisman over Texas's Colt McCoy and Florida's Tim Tebow. He is 1/16 Cherokee and we are all proud of him. Really they are all worthy. There was a special on FDR on the tube. Yes that FDR. In this day and age I don't think he would have lasted one term...my how times have changed. Get a good look at it. Elvis has a Christmas duets album out that is real cool. It's Sunday so it must be ...
