Close the deal

Image
Jake Peavy could not have pitched much better last night in the Padre's game at the Dodgers ...but it wasn't good enough as his team mates could not muster up ONE RUN ...and the Pads walked in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th and lost 1-0 .... OMG I have yet to hear if Rondo is suspended for the next and final game between the Celts and the Bulls ...he should be as the throwing incident is grounds for sure...we'll see how the League handles it...I hope $ doesn't rule ... The Derby furnished the racing world with a wondrous long shot out of New Mexico , a $9500 dollar horse ...great ride by Calvin Borel and it was but a 50-1 shot that stunned the track... Finally, the swine flu that appears to be crippling the nation , just shows us how vulnerable humans are to disease ... still...

Bad Move

Image
Normally I am all in tune with the new administration. But...the flyover by the Presidential One was a blunder of major proportions. As thousands of New Yorkers scurried outside of their high risers to avoid another attack by the use of the jets...the panic that they went through was totally INEXCUSABLE !!! All it took was a major blitz by the media to alert the people as what was going on...what is the price that you put on stress? A flat out apology is in order and there should be major sanctions on those who were in charge... Stress...there is no measurement how that it all adds up, but it does take it's toll on a person's life... The Pakistanian government has just said that they think that Bin Laden may be dead...a thing that this blogger has been saying from the beginning... It's May and it's time for the Derby, mother's day, fresh newly rolled greens...all right not everybody has the same wants and desires, but I love true greens... Enjoy the sun...

Minor Change

Image
The Padres have lost the last 3 series and need a minor alteration in their lineup...they really can't do much to their pitching staff ...but the hitters... Bud Black pulled Giles yesterday as he flounders trying to find his stroke...I say he needs to stay with him as he will hit...now, Kevin Kouzmanoff is another story ...he is said to be a slow starter, well, even when he is " right " he's not a major force ... he can't hit with runners on the bases ...it's time to move Chase Headley to 3rd base , insert Scott Hairston to LF ...just a minor change to make us more consistent ... It sure seems like the NBA playoffs have turned more dirty and aggressive since the announcers have been saying the players have been too soft on layups ...they need more hard fouls is what they are saying...this hockey type of play is NOT what is needed...wait until somebody gets really hurt due to it ... There is a commentary today in the Tribune by Tim Sullivan ...

The Kentucky Derby

Image
So one of my dream trips is to the Kentucky Derby . Forget the mint juleps , the floppy hats , the beautiful grounds , the lure of making millions ...naw I want it all . But some people already get the experience 'cuz they are celebrities ...the named are Michael Jordan , Evander Holyfield , Tom Brady , Kim Kardashian , Lindsay Lohen's girl friend Sam , Paris Hilton ... what !!! All true... The Portland Trailblazers got their needed victory over Houston at home... The Padres won last night and lost today at the Rockies... Did you watch Dancing with the Stars ? Mysterious boot of Julianne Huff and her sweetheart... Was Simon on drugs with his judging last night on AI ? I thought the gal and the rocker were the clear winners ... Well, we'll see what the public says tonight ... Nice day of golf today ...

Winer...

Image
It just appears that I am wining all the time ...to break from that mode here is a real look into some wines I have found lately that are dynamite ! I just got back from Pinot Country and tasted and bought some beauties... Eola Hills Wolf Creek , Cubanisimo Pinot , Left Coast Cellars Cuvee ...add some old standby's Cristom and Witness Tree ...and you have some awesome reds ...I just had a Virgin Shiraz last night that would hold up to any of the above ... To get back to wining ...the Padres gave up 8 stolen bases in one game to the Rockies in a very embarrassing loss ... BFB said it was concerning ... I GUESS SO!!!... it is an ongoing problem since I have been here with the lack of keeping the base runners close to the bag...not to say the pitching has been progressively worse and worse ...another NEW guy Gaudin goes today... The Trailblazers try to stave off elimination with a home game against the Rockets and the book is 5 1/2 favoring PDX... My favorite Italian ...

Just Fix it

Image
I am not going to mince words here...the Portland Trailblazers NEED a point guard . What they have is a 2 guard running their show and he is prone to turnovers, speed mismatches , and overall quickness problems . Steve Blake is a tough, durable, heady player...but NOT a pg...he made some critical errors in their playoff game last night, as PDX blew THE chance they had to win this series... just fix it ... The Padres lost 2 of 3 at home to Pittsburgh this weekend... Peavy has not been sharp this season, as he wasn't yesterday, with a ERA around 5.00 ...however, the SD squad needs to get both CF's in the lineup at the same time ... just fix it ... The Chargers drafted players to help shore up their defense ...pass rushers, DB's, addressing the issues that were needed...in other words, they are fixing it ... Did you see how quickly the Pistons have fallen off the pedestal ? Swept by the Cavs , ridding themselves of Chauncey (?), picking up AI (?), generally losi...

Hybrid or not?

Image
For those of you who know me I have owned probably in the neighborhood of 30 + cars in my life ...and I am pretty much settled with the Lexus and Solara that I possess now...however my son is closing down on his Infinity lease and is looking into hybrids ...so to keep you the readers informed I'll give you what I have found out ...1st of all the Toyota Prius has pretty much the most time in on tweaking their model ...and it is hard to beat ...it has awesome mileage ( 48 mph ) and offers leather , nav, and pretty much anything you want...and if you wait for the '10 you can get a sunroof ...the Honda offers 2 types, but does not give you all the bells and whistles, Chevy has a new Malibu model out that is intriguing, but it is a GM ... Ford has a couple of models that are nice, but well you know ... Lexus offers a couple, but the mileage isn't that great ... To summarize, the car companies just haven't got it ...I'm talking the need of the people...I think...
