The Belmont Stakes

Image
It's the third leg of the Triple Crown ...and no 3 year old has accomplished the feat in 30 years or so...this is the hardest of them all...1 1/2 half miles...and I look for a closer to pull out the win...and today I pick... Brilliant Speed ...to be ridden by Joel Rosario ...perfect...I think I just may go out and put a bet on it at Sycuan ... The stage was set for Anthony Rizzo to be a hero last night...bases loaded and down by a run...struck out swinging...probably ball four... BUT ...he is an aggressive sort and I'm cool with the effort...I am not cool with the lack of managing in the 9th ... Rizzo walks to start the inning... ALL managers then bunt the runner over and take 2 pops at singling in the tieing run... NOT BUD BLACK ...he has the horrible hitting (.190 avg) Jorge Cantu swinging away!  He hits into a double play and the game is over ...oh, by the way, the next hitter singles ...what is so hard about doing the right thing?  I beg of you, brains, just use ...

The Buzz at Petco

Image
It is in the air, my friends...the Anthony Rizzo era has begun...he tripled in his 2nd at bat and the entire team jumped forward...he has the biggest pop in his bat of any player I've seen here...and that includes AGonzo ... the Pads laid out 7 runs in their win against the Nats ...and we take in SD tonight... Party at the Park , it is called...the buzz is so cool... Aaron Harang got another win and it was a very, very, good night... I must discuss the NBA playoffs ... the Mavs did their thing and won game number five, thus leading 3-2...and...it was an intense one, as they get to be in this long a series... BUT ... the lack of D is dazzling...and the lack of an inside game by both teams is so weird... long range bombs rule ... LeBron James ... charley choke ...he scores but a deuce in the 4th and is no where close to the hype of a great player... Wade hurt his hip and left the bulk of the O to James ...and he ain't got it, my friends...does this mean, Dallas , has i...

As Promised

Sure, the time was right ...he had finally mastered the little things that were asked of him in Triple A... you know the facts, mam ...he was waited on for money reasons... the Super 2 management thing in MLB...whatever... Anthony Rizzo is finally making his major league debut tonight...at the cool age of 21, and the foundation of the giveaway trade by GM Hoyer for AGonzo ...so here we go, what I have been talking about for a month or so...here is my fear...they will drop Cunningham and go with the way over the hill Hawpe in RF...I guess we can't have everything... why is it so easy to see by anyone other than the GM? The Mavs and the Heat ...really doesn't make any diff where they play these games...this is the pivotal one of them all... King James , where have you gone?  He appears to be the guy that doesn't want the ball to finish...that was his rap in Cleveland...and Big Dirk ...sick and all, still a stud...toss up... Is it just me, or is Division 1 football...

Weiner Gate

Image
Naw, it's just too funny for comment.... Weiner Gate ...and my , how the major networks won't let this go away... I think I am full of sarcasm today... Former 3B, Kevin Kouzmanoff , was demoted to Triple A by his new team, the Athletics...and he was shocked... The Pads were blanked for the 10th time this season...on a record pace, my friends... Light hitting, or barely hitting, Brad Hawpe , played right field yesterday...feeling the fuel of the emergence of the hot hitting sensation, Rizzo , talking over at 1B... With a draft full of pitchers, the Pads GM took a 2B with his first pick, the 10th overall... Not a fan of hockey...but...I noticed the line was prohibitive for the Bruins , down two games in their champ series...odd...well, not really....and Boston won easily...what do they know? Oak Tree may be in Del Mar next year...this is very, very, good... Two of the top three draftees were from UCLA ...and the Bruins were knocked out of the playoffs the same day....

The Draft

Image
A year ago the Padres went out and drafted a high school pitcher as their number one ...certainly not unique...offered a nice package and fully expected to get their guy...not so fast...he opted to not sign, go back into the draft, and go to college...decided on the the University of Florida ...and what has he done as a Gator ?  First of all, UF is in the Regionals, on the way to the College World Series ...and yup, Karsten Whitson is having a fabulous season...8-0, with a ton of K's, tiny ERA, and a boat load of confidence...I like it...he gets to grow up normally, learn how to live away from home, with guys his own age...I like it... More Padres ...a second win against the Astros ... Harang getting his 6th win of the year...matching his last 3 years, this time prior to the half way mark... Ludwick and Headley continue their streaking ways...how many days 'til Rizzo ?  I even picked him up on my pathetic fantasy team... Pick six hit at Hollywood Park for a cool ...
