Lean On Me

Image
Sports builds unity ...a cry that practically every coach who has the team in their repertoire shouts out to anyone who'd listen...how being part of a team makes you a better individual...that if you have faith in what we do it will get you through...the tough times...believe in the lord...there is no I in team...act like you've been there before...how can you let down your team mates?...well, football teams are the biggest culprits...mainly due to having so many guys on their teams...and there are so many ways to motivate... I just saw a piece on this very same topic...the USC Trojans have been using the '72 song by Bill Withers , " Lean On Me "...thing is the rookies have to sing a song in their hazing period of becoming a part of the team...and that's what he sang...the Coach, Pete Carroll , took it one step further and invited Withers himself to a team meeting...punked them as he posed as a NCAA official...turns out to be a huge building block...cool stu...

9/11

Image
Lest we never forget ...the tragedy that was hung on this country was as devastating as any since Pearl Harbor ...a sinister plot by the worst excuse for mankind ... You can see why our Prez Bush wanted to attack... Of course the mastermind of it was relegated to living out their lives in holes in the earth for the rest of their sorry lives...what a waste... We were in NY just a couple of weeks prior to the attack, looking at dental schools for the son...went on a bay cruise and I took a picture of the twin towers...eerie feeling when I looked back at it... On a much brighter note, the NFL got started last night with a bang...an OT thriller with the Steelers outlasting the Titans ...a game that featured 2 of the top 5 or 6 teams in the league...by the way, I hate the way the OT is decided...a coin flip and 15 minutes of sudden death... Rep Joe Wilson (R), out of South Carolina...he's the idiot who shouted down Prez O as the address to the Congress was going on...his 15 min...

The Picks

Image
Of course the highlight for the week is my collegiate pigskin pix ...this week I'm featuring the Pac-10 ...I'm going to leave out the obvious where paddy cakes are played... Arizona vs. Northern Arizona, Arizona St . vs. Louisiana-Monroe, Cal vs. Eastern Washington...the rest are: Oregon St . @ UNLV ...This is going to be a beauty...it is going down to the wire as the Rebels are greatly improved...and from the Mountain West...the heat, my God the heat... Beavers in the last minute... USC @ Ohio St ....the Bucks barely survived Navy and now in comes the Trojans...they probably were looking forward to this...fact is they can't stop the run...and that's exactly what USC will do and is my pick... UCLA @ Tennessee. ..the Bruins are better, but so are the Volunteers...not close... Tenn Idaho @ Washington ...the most improved of all Pac-10 teams and in a romp... UW WSU @ Hawaii. ..MWC wins this 42-17.. .the Rainbows Off the board... Purdue at the Dux ...close your eye...

Hump Day Highlights

Image
So as the week winds down the NFL is winding up. The biggest money betting season of the year starts cranking and I, for one, leave it alone. Now I'm always looking at the point spread...and in awe how accurate the odds guys are...I'm thinking that the key teams this year are the Patriots , Steelers , Dolphins , and the Chargers ... Thanks to all of you who have graduated to "follower" status... The National Health Plan that the democrats are trying to pass on the US still has so many question marks in it...(40 years should be a clue)...I'm not saying no just because...I need more info and a blitz of layers will not be the answer... The stocks have rebounded and ...still...nobody talks about it...'cuz it's positive. .. However, the news people are showing more and more about the Afghanistan war ...I guess we are trying to subdue the Taliban...but they are locked into holes and all and we can't seem to find where they are firing at us from...I...

The Prez Speaks to the Kids

Image
Help me out here...the Prez O has set his sights on addressing the students of this great land...about setting goals and all ...and there is opposition ! I actually watched a mother cry on TV as she was interviewed about it...just where is this being PREACHED ? Is this mass hysteria formed by the conservative right ? Is it the preachers that are behind this way of thinking? Speculation ...where else are there groups of people meeting to come up with such a thought? I am the one who has had it with the " christian groups " who think their way is the only way...and anyone else who doesn't agree with them are wrong and they will find a group and lash out at them...OK, people, step back and let the Prez speak ! Brooks and Dunn ...one of the best duos in country music are calling it quits...well, after a Cher type farewell tour...anyway, they have had such a long term of quality music that has been so enjoyable...they just released (today) a hits CD that you should ge...

Labor Day

Image
I don't suppose you really know the reasons behind ... Labor Day ... It started back in 1882 ( Snook's birthday ) in the little town of New York...where there was this little dispute with labor owners and the beginning of union types...the state of Orygun was the 1st to actually put in to law in 1887 , and then Prez Cleveland convinced Congress to make it a national law in 1894. ..totally 'cuz it would benefit himself in the elections...(duh)...well, it's kept it's title and is generally accepted as the end of summer and the beginning of the school year...and most everybody has the day off...except my mate of the year, Marsha ...who is searching for your new condo in San Diego all day today...me?, I'm celebrating by going to the races at Del Mar (it's true love)... I can't make this up...the Bolt's defensive star (and hope), Shawne Merriman , in preparation for the upcoming season gets arrested for slapping (allegedly) his girl friend, Tila T...
