Super Star

Image
A title that has been given out way too freely, SUPER STAR! ...it should be held up for those, who really are...suppose it's in the eyes of the beholder, writer, player, manager, coach, fan, referee, er, somebody...we are witnessing one, in the Horse's eyes... LeBron James ...15 years of NBA play and he is even BETTER than, let's say, 5 years ago...how he continues to dominate the game of basketball is amazing... Last night, was an extreme example...often playing with 4 subs in his own lineup, LeBron led a must win Cleveland team to victory over the Celtics ...his inside, outside offensive display...his continued goal saving defensive prowess...no more evident than last night...I don't care if he gets the W at Boston, I really don't...but to watch him play, is a REAL TREAT ...more than the Beard, KD, or Curry...they play soft D...not so, does the King...the TOTAL package... In my blog yesterday, I went back into time to tell you about the era of boxing ...t...

Take You Back

Image
Morning, ya'll... I'm gonna take you back ...on this date, May 25th...1965 ...why say you?...just a scant 53 years ago, if you are counting... less than a month prior to me graduating from high school ...let me set the scene...more so...the country was embroiled in a mess overseas...continual, alarming information out of Vietnam... 'the domino theory' was being shoved down our throats by the administration (LBJ)...yet, I was preparing for the college days ahead...with great optimism....but, that seemed so, make that, SO far away ...(Carole King)... This night of the 25th, was going to be an epic one ...as my buddy (Jack Dent) and I had seats to a fight...not just any fight, but the Heavyweight Championship! ...you see, back then, there was little ability to view the 'important' shows other than by satellite...this one, was to be carried to a concert site for us... My home was in Salem, Oregon...just down the street, was the infamous grounds of the Oregon S...

The Anthem

Image
Morning, ya'll...not sure how many days that it's been, that we have arisen and alas, cloud cover! ...this has been an extraordinary winter and spring here in SoCal...top it off, still cool at night...I think it's been 10 years now...and this is the one that has been so diff from the other 9...there you go, the weather analysis from the Horse... My headline today is the National Anthem , that is played prior to the beginning of the sporting events in our country...in particular, the NFL ...which has come under scrutiny when a player decided to kneel during the playing of the Anthem...Colin Kaepernik...his reasoning was towards the treatment of his race...and the action created feelings of some others to do the same... There are those out there, that have strong feelings about it ...of course, polarized camps ...one side feels that the personal rights of the individual must be allowed...the other, says that it is awful, that the Country is THE flag and the ANTHEM...r...

Golfing

Image
Yup, I am hitting the links early today, kids...so, I will see ya'll mañana... A couple of standout things...the Rockets in a shocker at Alameda!...the way to beat GS, is to pressure them big time...they did and got the W...and get this, the home court advantage back...you smelling an upset?...is it an upset?...I like Houston's odds... I did watch the AI finality...and no, I don't think the best contestant won...Gabby, was clearly the better of the 3...in me eyes...there were some way cool performances in the show, however...Lionel is a star...and the duet of the aforementioned gal and Luke Bryan, is a tip to what will come for her... There is a sinkhole in the White House?...yes siree, Bob, there sure is... A Demo won the Guv spot in Georgia?...signs of things to come... A 30 year old got the heave ho from his parents...from their abode...had to do this in court...nothing like family... Crap, now I am really cutting this close....see ya...

Downton Abbey, Part Deux?

Image
This picture reminds me of something...as we celebrate the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ...hmmm, I knew of some Dukes in the past... Duke Snider, the MLB Star of the Brooklyn Bums, and me little bro Jack's fav... Duke Ellington , the jazz great... the Duke of Earl , er the song of the 50's...'Duke Duke Duke of Earl'...dang if I can think of a Duchess...however, the pix...reminds me of one of my personal best loved TV shows, Downton Abbey ...doesn't it you a bit?... Music ... American Idol ...the winner was the OTHER gal, Maddie Poppe ...my pick, Gabby , was 3rd...geez, outside of a few lucky prognostications in the past...I usually don't have a clue...I have not watched the finals, taped it...but not seen it yet...the winner has a cool voice...and now...it's all about the songs...can any of 'em come up with a hit?...the ticket... Staying in entertainment...if ya'll are planning a Vegas trip next week, put it on hold...as the wor...

Statues

Image
Immortalized ...somewhere in time, the powers to be, figured out the way to remember someone...or someones...forever...is to make a STATUE of them...plop it on public property, probably in a city park...or so...maybe at a college or university...for many, the gravesite marker may suffice...but the deciders, need more of a recognition site ...fuggit about the cost, the idealism is the key factor... This procedure, what else would one call it?...has been shelved for some time...well, there are some that are erected in sports still...I think of the Tony Gwynn over at Petco Park, but the mass of 'em were way back when...some political blokes, have their own busts made and displayed all over their countries... how'd that work out for Sadam?... What was deemed important for some areas, like in the South of our country...the Civil War leaders...have had their statues removed... as time has moved on, and the meaning of the 'immortalized' people, has been resurrected......

Saturday Night Live

Image
Not sure when the 'new' time slot for NBC's Saturday Night Live was construed...but, I like it...gives us early to bed types, a chance to watch it...yes, there is lots of sarcasm...just way too much fodder for the writers from this present administration...I reckon...so, to sift thru it all, week after week...gosh, how can they miss?...last night's host, featuring her ' Sarah Palin' routine , was Tina Fey ...usually, their skits, after the opening act, are comparable to the LP's of the 50's and 60's...mostly filler...not so anymore...hit after hit after hit... We spent most of the day over at the off track, Striders ...betting the ponies, having some bubbly, and feasting on some dang good food...the place was packed...and to occupy a booth, it costs some scratch...you do the above, and it takes care of the seats...our normal one, cost $300!...which, BTW, sat vacant the entire day...don't understand the rationale...anyhoo, Justify won the Pre...
