Horse Sense

A giddy top of the morn to you all!...it's the weekend...any plans?...we are heading over to Petco Park for the Padres/Redlegs game this eve...then mañana, are working our way to Shelter Island, Humphrey's...for a concert by the Monkees...well, the two remaining ones...let's talk...a little Horse Sense...

The Padres game has some luster, I suppose...throw out last night's
debacle, and the team has been on the upswing...and for added incentive, it is Hawaiian Pad Shirt giveaway nite...who can resist that?...we are sitting in the Omni Club seats...so, if lucky, get the seats up by the food...if not, we are down with the commoners...dependent on luck and timing...pictured here are our TV voices of the Padres...Don Orsillo (wearing the Hawaiian shirt) and Mark (Mudcat) Grant...

'Hey hey, we're the Monkees'...take Uber or Lyft to the concert...Mickey Dolenz and Mike Nesmith, are the ones that perform...this is a 'Marsh need to see' one...I have some interest...however, the 8 pm start time, is a bit disturbing...you know, for old bones and all...infringing on possible valuable sleep time...

Had a fun night out...'date nite'...started at our fav new watering hole, in Little Italy...Nolita Hall...terrific vibes, with the cool thing of their viewing board, changing with every airplane that passes just overhead...and we stumbled on a 'new to us' restaurant...Mona Lisa...where we had our norms, spaghetti and meat balls...and lasagna...both sensational...couple that with a liter of the chianti, that was but $14!...it is our new, go to place...for Italian...listen, it is not fancy, but the food, my gawd, the food...

The NBA made their ruling on the two Cavs in jeopardy...actually, the league reviewed the last 2 minutes of the regulation game...and as I figured, had no real penalties awarded...awarded?...levied, is better...they even commented that the refs blew two possible calls, that weren't called...both on the Warrior's Green...the one that got me, was that on the missed FT by the Cavs, with 5 secs to go...Green stepped into the lane too soon...give me a break...the pros do that ALL the time, with it rarely called...

The 2 Cavs in jeopardy...Kev Love came onto the floor during the skirmish at the end of the game...no harm, no foul...get rid of the rule, then...and Tristan Thompson (Khloe's boy), fined $25 grand and no suspension for his aggressive crap...hey, this just opens the door for more stuff...if the league does nothing...figure there will be more of it...which is probably WHAT they want...you know, like fights in hockey...yes, the Horse predicted that outcome...

Feeding a dog is similar (don't go ballistic on this) to feeding a baby...they are totally dependent on the owners, er, parents...so, if you got one...DON'T be negligent...well, to either one...what?...fresh water...c'mon...I must be talking dogs now...I'm old and confused...

My good buddy from the PNW, gave me a ring a ding yesterday and suggested I write about a possible NEW HBO show, that would feature the two ladies in question...lately...have Roseanne and Samantha Bee cohost a point/counterpoint shindig...egads, really?...Snooki...and he also did the update on the Willamette Valley water purity crisis...and there is...no time slot given, for safety to drink...what a mess...

Ya wanna talk some football?...OK, then...there is some banter about the new QB's that were drafted this past season...most of the blokes are working with the 3rd string of the new teams...the 2 that have been getting the best reviews?...USC dude at the Jets, and the UCLA bloke at the Cardinals...and...Johnny Football is back...well, in Canada...in the CFL...did OK in his first pre-season game...and then popped off...ha ha...good luck, Canada, all yours now...

Here at the home, they are having a photog contest...if you are a winner...well, if I am...they blow the photo up and display it with the other winners...last year, I got passed over...very upset about the decision...so, today, I am going to go about and light up me camera...find me a photo or two to enter...it has to be epitomizing the area here in the GQ....hmmm, figure a pix of the countless homeless, would not be a winner...c'mon sunshine, I need you...

One of the latest ploys of the sports channels...is to video the players as they arrive at the arenas where they are to play....almost like a red carpet for the pretty people at them damn award shows...well, anyhoo...this is what the King wore to the last game in Alameda...at a cost of $46,000!...is that a Gavinchy?...you know, they need Ryan Secrest there with a microphone, asking them important q's...'LeBron, what we you wearing?'...

Back in the day...IF Tiger Woods was playing at the Memorial...you know, Jack's (Nicklaus) Place...IT was Tiger and everyone else...well, he IS playing...and IS in contention...and IF his putter gets hot, HE just may WIN this T, again...I'll be watching IT today...

Analysis, Game One

The NBA finals...game numero uno in Alameda...wasn't that a doozy!...I'm going to give you the official Horse Analysis, absolutely free of charge...Cleveland Cavs at the Golden St Warriors...an OT thriller, filled with moments of frustrations, great plays, questionable officiating, and the underlying item, the point spread...here we go...er, I go...

1.  How on earth can anyone, ie Vegas, not see that this will be a tightly contested series?...the ludicrous 12 1/2 point spread on game one was just that...as I suggested, take the points...duh...even though, there were scary moments of point differential in the overtime...in the regular game, not so...

2.  Final minute of regulation...a drive to the hoop by Kev Durant...a collision just outside of the 'no contact' semi circle...as LeBron James took the hit...and here we go...the most hotly debated call in hoops...block or charge?...on replay, you could see one ref start to call block, and one doing the same, but he calling charge...not sure why, but the charge was the decision...until...it was reviewed...

3.  The review showed, apparently, that it was a block...the refs reversed what the call was on the floor...and KD then stepped to the line and hit both free throws...at the time, HUGE points...this was the TURNING point to the game...as the Cavs WERE leading...and could put it away...

4.  After Curry hit a driving layup and got the FT, the Warriors had the lead...until at the 5 second mark, with GS in a zone...PG Hill, got free at the hoop...LeBron tried to hit him...but Klay Thompson grabbed Hill and it was a free throw game, now...Hill hit the first, and missed the 2nd badly...game tied, again...I kept thinking, 12 1/2 points?...WTH?...

5.  Durant in a huge mistake, with an odious block out on the miss...the ball caromed to J.R. Smith, who then did the inexplicable...dribbled the ball away from the hoop...as pandemonium took over...time out?...nope...he thought that the Cavs were LEADING!...

6.  LeBron was shouting at J.R. to throw it to the corner, and get a shot off!!!... 'My Bad'...too late, this baby was going to overtime...OT!...in the post game interviews, HC of the Cavs, Ty Lue, said that J.R. thought that the Cavs were ahead, and thus, he was the hero...J.R. said he knew it was tied...ah ha...obviously, he didn't know...

7.  Golden St romped in the OT...as I said earlier in item 1, the point spread neared that Vegas line...egads...the difference was 10 at the end...but not before, stuff happened...as Tristan Thompson (Khloe K's guy) took exception to a late shot by the Warriors, in the now....ROUT!...he elbowed the shooter, and must have said something...as the ref immediately threw him out...

8.  Game over...well, not yet...there were like 2 seconds or so, left...and, of course, with the ejection, Draymond Green got super happy...Tristan didn't like that and shoved the ball into him and it appeared he took a jab at him, too...if you look at the replay...Kevin Love came off the bench...a no no and it is supposed to be an automatic suspension of the next game...so, the NBA leadership, er management, has some tough decisions to make...my take?...hand slaps and maybe some type of monetary fines...

9.  Lost in all of this...is how good LeBron James played...51 points and virtually unstoppable...and how good LeBron James is...listen, I have watched 60 years of hoops...he is the best I have seen...

10.  Where does this lead to game 2?...so much depends on what the NBA does with TThompson and Love...if playable, we are back to square one...and watch the Vegas line...take the points, whatever they are...you'd win your wager, again...that is, if you are the betting kind...

Other...

The most appalling of all names that I can think of...was bellowed out by the satirist (?), I guess that is what you would call her...Samantha Bee...on her 'liberal show'...quite often mocking the Right, and esp Prez T....she went deeper this time...and by now, you know that she called Ivanka, THE four letter name...listen, if ABC cans Rosanne, then CNN (?) MUST can Ms Bee...disgusting...

The sweet smell of success...the endearing Padres...got their 3rd straight win versus the Marlins...is a marlin a fish?...had a nice month...won more than they lost...been 5 years since I could say that...and we host the Redlegs next...I may sneak over there on Saturday...roam about the grounds...get a dog and a beer...feel the vibes...and grab the promo for the night...a Hawaiian Pad Shirt...I mean, c'mon...

The employment rate dropped to 3.8%...the lowest since 2000!...where are they getting jobs?...I think a better analytical point should be, what is the homeless rate?...gots to think that it is rising...how do the two compare, anyway?...something is amiss...

You don't think that this investigation of Jared Kushner isn't getting bigger?...the latest?...one of his associates...

Speaking of sweet smells...this is National Doughnut Day...I'll wait a bit, and then jaunt over to my fav spot...Star Donuts...probably in the afternoon...yes, they are THAT good...

Sears is closing more stores...I thought that they already closed them...ALL...

Well now...we aren't totally through looking at prop...we sauntered up the coastline to San Clemente....nope, not for moi...actually, so far away from EVERYTHING...

The Match

You a hoop junkie?...if so, this final series in the NBA is fer ya...the most complete basketball players on the planet are meeting up...mind you, for the 4th straight year...the dudes are LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kev Durant...representing their teams, Cleveland Cavs and the Golden St Warriors...promises to be like the other 3...seasons...close...

Vegas has other ideas...making the Dubs a prohibitive fav...NOOOOO...Lebron is too good for that to happen, kids...the Cavs will come up with pressure D, that restricts the Warriors from the free wheeling that they like to do...to most everyone else...now, I am not saying that the Alameda team will not win the set...as I pull for them...

IFF (math term) they make James play D, it is going to be a quick finals...isolate him on switches...with the amount of time he stays on the floor...it would be the ticket...so there, make THAT, the key to the games...

The lovable Padres got another win...did I say ANOTHER?...last night...down one, in the bottom of the ninth...bases loaded...is there anything more dramatic in the game?...pinch hitter up...Hunter Renfroe...big dude...takes a big swing and hits a dribbler on the 3rd base line...the 3rd Baseman charges, has no play at the plate...we tie it up...and then throws wildly to 1st..and we win in a walk off...on a dribbler!...any way we can...hey, I'm not sure if the winning runner ever touched home, and I'm sure Renfroe didn't touch first...until he walked back and did so, after the errant throw...ball game!...go figure...need ones just like that...

1968...finished the 4 part series...an unbelievable year of colossal happenings...and the culmination of it all?...the launch of a manned missile that went to the moon!...while we were fighting for our lives?...in Vietnam...talk about 180*...yes, this was the year...that Nixon won the Presidency, too...while the Governor from Alabama influenced the vote, George Wallace...such a weird, bizarre, piece of time for this country....you MUST see it...

The earth stood still for a moment yesterday...as the one and only, Kim Kardashian, traversed the steps to the White House to have a private meet and greet with Prez T...our tribe calls that a pow wow...make that 'Pow Wow'...she was there on behalf of a jailed person...I guess...seeking a pardon...right...I hope that meeting was taped...not sure, but did Billy Bush accompany her?...there are loads of other inappropriate comments that I could make, but will not...use YOUR imagination...

I did get me hairs cut yesterday...short on the side, leave the top long, block the back...yea, I got the military cut, $12 please...but I did hear this...the gal says she has many police clients...and they claim this...most of the homeless in our area...are here due to other states giving them one way tickets to one of three destinations...LA, Vegas, or San Diego...how about cleaning that up?...

POTUS just released this...he is increasing tariffs on the aluminum and steel products we import from Mexico, Canada, and the European Union...let's see, we export the steel and tax the product they make with it....what is going on?...

Finally, we read in the Trib that there was a 'mermaid mannequin' at Sunset Cliffs...inquiring minds wanted to know and the eye balls wanted to see it...soooo, off we went to see it...just past OB (Ocean Beach)....there she be...how did someone (s) get it out there?...

Time to Clean Up

Egads, all me blokes have deserted me for the tee time this am...trips and the like, so here I sit...golf free...so, maybe it is time to do the necessary job, of cleaning up my Mac...you know, get rid of useless (to me) apps and programs...lawdy, I have a zillion of 'em and don't use but a few...how about you?...shoot, I don't even know most of the symbols...

Safari, yes...iTunes, yes...SONOS, yes...Pandora, yes...well, you get my drift...but go into your finder, hit applications and gaze at all the apps you have...and then make sure you don't use them...drag the unused ones to the waste bucket...and VOILA!, you have done some cleaning...

I do have one of them 'clean up the computer' apps...that sifts thru all your data, I guess, and then wipes it out...I guess...not sure if it really does it...you know, it's not like olden times, where the computer would get stuck...too much stuff on it...and it would freeze up...haven't had that dilemma in decades...well...awhile...

Here is something new for us Mac dudes and babes...there finally is a Gmail app that coincides with the iPhone...I prefer this 'mail' to the mail that comes with Apple...faster, easier, and well, it's just better...trust the Horse...takes a bit to configure it...but you will thank me later, once you have done so...

Doesn't it seem like I am talking directly to you?...that's my gig for today...hey, the one thing that I am not satisfied with, is the calendar apps...especially for the iPhone...I like more of what is going on in a month, readily visible...rather than just a dot, or highlighted date...there are some out there, that do that, but they are not BOSS, yet...

I have 'Siri' for this Mac...I have NEVER used it...in fact, I rarely use it on my phone, either...I have seen and been with peops who use the service all the time...maybe it's my honrey way of dealing with change...but, I should look into it...will I?...

The lovely Pads got a W last night, in a mysterious set of moves by the Mgr Green...maybe I should say, despite...he yanked our ONLY real threat as a SP, Tyson Ross, in the 6th...weird...and the RP gave up a gaggle of runs...oops, backfire...but thanks to some unprofessional CF play by them Marlins, we scored some runs...Green, feeling like he had the game in the bag, brought in a kid who does not belong in the bigs...well, I could go on...we did hang on to what we got (4 Seasons)...

Ivanka, yes her...throughout the unrest in the eyes of many with this Administration...continues her dealings with the many companies in China that make some of her, maybe all, of her products to sell back here...OK, maybe this is nitpicking, but come on...

Been reading on the nightmare of unpure water in the water capitol of the Nation...Oregon...they have algae in their drinking water...and the peops have been reduced to bottled water...how long does it take to clean up the water?...I asked Snooki, and he is at wits end...the city sent out an alert, that had the city in a panic...stay tuned...

Roseanne got the axe for her Tweets...not sure about this totally, but shouldn't HE (guess who?) get FIRED for many, make that MANY, of his?...calm down Horse, wait for the Mid Terms...time will take care of this...

Tuesday in the Hood

Morning, ya'll...how's it hangin'?...we are starting out with another cloud cover here in the hood...they call it 'May Gray' around these parts....and it is a truth, my good friends...breaks up around 10ish...and then the sun emerges...never too hot, never too cold...them 100* days are for those spots east of us...we wallow about in the 70* range for most of the year...

The 7th and final game in Houston was a doozy!...of course, I am a Golden State fan, of their style of play...and really did not think they would pull it off...especially down by 11 at halftime, I sensed the impending doom...but, they rebounded with terrific energy and made some critical shots...chased the Beard down...and the rest of the Rockets could not find the hoop...in fact, they went thru a span of 27 missed 3 point shots...there you go...live by the 3, die by the 3...they are done...

There are lots of finger pointing...by Houston...officiating, they are saying...give me a break...Chris Paul (CPIII) was out...that is justifiable...he was carrying 'em, while the Beard was not...horrific defensive scheme by the Rockets...a truth ( not different than most pro coaches, tho)...one could argue that...Iggy (GS's defender king) was out for 4 straight...Klay got 3 quick fouls in the 1st Q and SAT...in a loosely called game, his were not loose...

Fact is this...team play is the decider...the Warriors have it, and the Rockets have less of it...listen, I absolutely enjoy the ball movement...finally, when it was over...most players embrace their opponents...give their kudos to one another for a splendid battle on the court...not the Beard, he sprinted off the floor, quicker than I have seen him ever move...a disgusting 'idol', who will probably win the league's MVP...with the likes of LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kev Durant in the mix...and CPIII, too...all are more deserving...they play both sides of the ball...

More questionable stuff...this time in MLB...the former 1B of the Padres...and now a star of da Cubbies...Anthony Rizzo...has done IT again...a take out slide, er whatever, at home plate...listen, kids, this used to be 'part of the game', a few years back...until one of the stars of the game, C of the Giants, Buster Posey...got injured on a take out...lost for a year...and the league had had enough...and put in rules to protect the unprotected catcher in these collisions...got it?...well now, last season...versus our own SD Pads, Rizzo blasted our catcher...and nuttin' happened to him...what rule?...apparently, he is above the rule...and a few days ago...did it again...this time in Pitt...came inside the baseline, big time...and took out the Pirate catcher...nuttin' again...clean this up, MLB...

Starbucks is closing 8,000 of their stores today from 2 to 3 pm...for unconscious bias training...see how those words run off your lips?...isn't this a norm for all businesses?...or, more of a ploy, to show the country, they are treating ALL people well?...hey, there are thousands of these coffee shops, with a rotating amount of thousands of employees...and you are bound to get some knot heads...fire 'em and move on...

Reminded me of way back when...I was taking son Cris...about...to get him his first car...this was in Salem, Oregon...we walked into a dealership...and the salesperson came up to 'greet us'...and gave me quite the greeting...told me there were cars down the street at the Kmart that would be more in my style and price range...amazing!...we walked out...and then I WALKED BACK IN!...went right up to the manager and told him who I was...what I had witnessed and what was said to me...yes, I wanted to hit the salesperson so badly....have no idea what happened to him...but an example, that all places have knot heads...

Hawaii...the destination spot for many of us...has drawn up a political bill...that would ban some 'sun tanning products'...really...they have found that if the spray or cream has two substances in 'em,  oxybenzone or octinoxate, they are to cause mortality to developing coral reefs...wowser, these must be powerful suntan screens...

Talk about nothing...I tried to watch a bit of the Bachelorette...just not interested....wonder why?...tired of the plot?...I dunno...something is amiss...maybe the peops are not interesting...

So on we go to the NBA finals...for the 4th straight season...it is the Cavs and the Warriors...which did not look like it would be, a few weeks ago....Vegas has put quite the number on game 1...has to be a record of sorts...12 point advantage to Golden St...who, BTW, has the home court advantage...

Memorial Day

Of all the holidays, this one is certainly worthy...to honor the fallen soldiers of this country...regardless of the battles they were in...they were doing their duty...and gave the biggest sacrifice one can...yes, this is a day of days...we honor them all...on this, MEMORIAL DAY!

1968...did you watch the CNN Special that aired last night?...terrifying and terrific at the same time...one of the producers is the actor and I suppose, activist, is Tom Hanks...the deaths of both MLK and RFK in the first 6 months was devastating to us...guns...lordy, we are still battling the guns...except now, we are dealing with rapid fire ones, as well...this is also the ongoing battle with Vietnam time...riots in our streets...LBJ announces he is not running for the next presidency...the list goes on...such a lot of commotion, in a condensed period of time...you MUST watch it....

LeBron...dominated the game last eve...as the Cavs roll on...to the finals...geez, if the Celts just made half of their easy shots in the 1st half, I would be writing a totally different paragraph here...but, they didn't...and the opponent will be determined tonight in Houston...gulp, I do think it will be the Rockets...and the final match will be the King vs the Beard...

I must add this...for all the notoriety that Boston's HC Brad Stevens, gets from the adoring media...but, apparently not from his peers (no votes for Coach of Year)...his in game tactics were borderline kid's play...he had no clue what to do, especially defensively...

House hunting...spent the day roaming thru other condos and even, a house in OB, er Ocean Beach...and we come to this realization...that we are living in a very cool place...with more views than what we could trade for...or even, buy up for (within reason)...nothing like a great room...not that we are through looking, but...oh yea, OB is an interesting place...some call it like an oldie 'hippie town'...well, maybe...

Wow the east is getting some weather!...the video of the waters rising thru the town in Maryland, is downright scary...and devastating...the south is also getting storms...egads...

You a Spam eater?...be careful, as there was a problem in packaging...your can may be on recall...check the dates...'metal objects' may be found in the 'food'...hmmm, what is in Spam anyway?...

Well, it was fun to have the son here for the weekend...always...and our daily grind returns....geez, that may be too harsh...

House Hunting

An extended weekend...what a terrific time to go on a little journey about the area...taking in 'Open Houses'...and of course, with the lil woman being a realtor, getting into houses that are not open, too...yes, we went a House Hunting...accompanied by our internal expert, and perennial open house participant, our son...who does this exact thing in the Santa Barbara region almost weekly....we sauntered into the market that has been intriguing us for quite awhile...where we actually had a deal in the past year, for one day...then we backed out...

However, after seeing some doable properties, and some that would stretch out the pocket book a bit...you know I am on a fixed income...we sat down for some lunch at a 'local' establishment and did some soul searching...actually, some deep conversations of what would we be getting and what would we be losing...with the underlying issue always being the cash flow...

Activity versus the solitude of a neighborhood...albeit a lively one, at times...it is for the most part, sleepy...and, a very important piece of the puzzle, free from the homeless...value?...will it retain whatever we pay for it?...will the sellers accept a contingent offer?...meaning, all is agreed upon, if we can get ours sold in a specific time period...or...do we cease the search...put ours out THERE, get out of town for a month...THEN, go serious House Hunting, with cash in hand...after it sells...

Or, are we giving up too much for that life...style...are we regressing?...we have a wonderful view right now...in a very prestigious high rise in downtown...everything is taken care of...well, we pay for that...there is 24 hour security...and when we travel...we lock up and leave...the restaurants and bars, are within walking distance...the airport, the train station, the beach...so close...we have water views...hmmm, there is the homeless problem, though...but that exists in all big cities...

So...we then abandoned the idear of the neighborhood HOUSES...at least in that area...regrouped and thought more on a different condo, perhaps...ventured out and saw a penthouse, that was easily in our range of cash in Little Italy, which was not what I liked...hmmm...so here we sit...with a diff angle in the minds...and...the constant consideration of a gamble...do we sell our unit and then re-start the cognitive process?...

What we did discover...is that we would miss all the action, even with it's negatives...and we would miss the views...the daily panorama of life, just outside our windows...yes, it takes little sashays into the real world to help make our decisions...the results?...to be determined, not just this weekend...

Other...

Both of the NBA semis are down to game 7...must be quite nice for the league, don't you think?...curious, for some, I am certain...I hope you are not one of them, who get sucked into betting on these...today the Cavs at the Celts...tomorrow the Warriors at the Rockets...who you got?...the home team's advantage?...right, I have no clue...but, like many others, much to the delight of the NBA, I, too, will be watching...

The adorable Pads won game 2 in LaLa Land...against the hated Bums...slugfest at 7-5...any win is a good one...if SD can get today's, then the last place trophy will be held by LA...beat LA!...
