The Beach Boys

Image
The title of the blog today, should bring smiles to ya'll...there is no better, good time music, than that of the Beach Boys ...we are traveling up to Pala for their show tonight...this has to be like the 12th or more...times we have been at one of their concerts ...they are always, 'Fun Fun Fun' ... Last year we sat by the one and only Bill Walton , that they kept their eyes on...I think they pre-functioned together...listen, it was a blast from the first song on!...others, have been featuring different guest types, playing with them... John Stamos, often does... There has been quite a change in their makeup over the years ...50+ will make you do that, if you are still touring...the real high voice songs, like 'Surfer Girl' and 'Don't Worry Baby' , to mention but a few...are now sung by Jeffrey Foskett ... Mike Love still wails his stuff, the car songs, and what he always has done...his daughter does some, too... Bruce Johnston is alive, well...

Credibility

Morning, kids...can't believe it is FRIDAY! ...yet, we are still not in the day to day, sunshine mode...dagnabit...love it when you wake up to nothing but the light of the sun ...right?...now, if we went 5 miles inland, we would...it's the marine air...if it sounds like I am complaining, slap me right now ...well, it was kind of a slow day for grandiose stories, but what I have are... POTUS's wife, FLOTUS ...made an appearance...hey, that should be with !!!...meeting with 'leaders' on the immigration issue...I'm gonna tell you, it is the first time that I have heard her speak since, the alleged 'Obama cover' one ...is this the new ploy, to get her in the mix?...she travelled in a top coat that had a saying on it...basically, 'who cares, I don't' ...to that, it loses ALL HER CREDIBILITY! ...listen, they are on shaky grounds in the first place...with the American public... I can't make this stuff up... Could you imagine EVER , like ...

Summertime!

Image
'It's summertime, summertime, sum sum summertime' ...thanks to the Jamies for this great song of the FIRST day of SUMMER! ...6/21... June 21st ...OK, let's list some of the great songs of the summer for ya...just for your fun...in the summer...naw, in no particular order...just groove along... 1. The aforementioned Jamies hit ...I'm sure Snooki had NO CLUE it was them that sang it... 2.   Hot Fun In The Summertime ...Sly and the Family Stone...terrific, and who could forget Sly's interview by Dick Cavett...'what book are YOU reading?'... 3.   All Summer Long ...by the Beach Boys...who, BTW, we are seeing this weekend up at Pala Casino...not great seats, but who will be sitting anyway?...gosh, they had a load of summer hits... 4.   In The Summertime ...Mungo Jerry...ah, right...how many other hits did he (they?) have?...had an infectious beat... 5.   A Summer Song ...Chad and Jeremy...loved their harmony...mostly slower songs, right?...some c...

The NBA Player Draft

Image
'With the 24th pick in the 1986 NBA Player Draft , the Portland Trailblazers select... Arvydas Sabonis!' ...shock waves throughout the Pacific Northwest...wait who?...well, specifically a bunch of dudes having lunch in West Salem...Oregon...let me set the stage...it was back in the days of summer hoop camp at the high schools for the youngins in the feeder areas...I was an assistant, then, with the boss, the infamous Chuck Robinson , at the helm...so, we were a group of coaches...eating and awaiting the selection...you see, for the region, the Blazers were THE team...had anyone drafted a Euro before?... It is the guess work of all franchises of the league...year after year...there is no other sport, that a draftee plays as quickly in the bigs as the hoops ...so...if you have a pick in the top 5...your guy will probably be a huge part of what your makeup is...in the next season...this year, there are 5 elite kids...so it is being predicted... However, the game has change...

Assimilation

Hey there, I glossed on over this yesterday...thought about it more...and think it may be time to revisit this...if you see any similarities to the present day, well, that's your prerogative...in the late 1800's...oh my, I did say that century... there were a lot of people, one may call them indigenous ...that were no longer the owners of the land that they once inhabited...that's a nice way to say... a defeated nation ... The Native Americans ...most of you, think the name 'Indians' is easier and the preferable one...started back when the 'founder' of the country, Christopher Columbus, thought he landed on the West Indies...thus, the people he saw, were the...well you know...the history moved on... and the growth of the Europeans did, too... one could say, they were all 'illegals' ...I digress... The Euros , who quickly took over the 'found' land ...with their advanced technology...claimed it as theirs...established the USA...and the...

All We Are Saying...

The survivor of this year's Open...at Shinnecock?...er, the winner is... Brooks Koepka ...at one over par...as he goes back to back as the champ of this Major...hasn't happened since '89!...a true test of all skills that these professionals have in their system...the dudes who set the course up, indeed made the layout PLAYABLE ...putting most holes in the middle of the greens...just in case, well, the weather acted up...on the final day of play... Not sure if there has been a bigger upset in the soccer world...it is called the World Cup , right?... Mexico over the returning champ, Germany...one-nil...here's my thang...I like lots of scoring...ah hem, why I coached hoops...that's a lot of time watching a sporting event, and getting to cheer but for one score...hey, I took the course in college...loved PLAYING it...just not watching it... The suddenly punchless Padres ...had trouble SCORING (see above soccer) and got whupped in the series in Hotlanta...first ...

Fair or Unfair?

Morning, kids ...how ya'll doing this fine am?...woke up to the bodacious smell of coffee brewing ...my perk for Papa's Day...and the dawg, Sammi, licking me face ...purnt near perfect beginning, don't ya think?...let's go... The Open at Shinnecock ...what a 3rd day it was...the course itself, can be brutal...with any type of winds...that dries it out...makes the greens disastrous! ...you see, they are upside down frying pans ...imagine table tops, with the edges all dropping way off...that's these...and THAT'S what happened in just a few hours...near impossible to hit a ball and have it stay on the greens... So....the dudes who played early, had decent weather...could post some 'moving day' scores...and wait for the onslaught of the weather, and the HIGH scores to follow...in fact, the two that jumped up, Daniel Berger and Tony Finau , are in the FINAL group now...as the leaders, faltered badly...ie, the one to beat, Dustin Johnson, who was 7 OVER...
