What Age Difference?

Image
Kenny Perry emerged from the pack, at the cool age of 48 , and co-shares the lead at the Masters after 2 rounds. Chad Campbell hung on to be right there... Making moves were crowd favorite Lefty ...and R-9 hopefuls Sergio ...yes Sergio looks like he may figure in this ... Tiger is still hanging around, but must make a statement today. The Blazers beat up on the Lakers at PDX again...it is a dogfight for home court advantage in the west and now take their show to LA and play the hapless Clippers ... just how does Dunleavy keep his job ? OMG...the Padres got game no.1 against the Giants and go with Peavy tonight...I actually got to watch the last 4 innings of this due to a rain delay... Scott Hairston proved to be the big hero as he leaped up and took a HR away from Bengie Molina and then bopped a 3 run tater in the bottom half of the 8th...good stuff... and the Pads have some live young arms in the pen...who'd a guessed it... And now for my SJ rag... is fishing a sport...

Padres Split With Dodgers

Image
Hey I know it's only a split, but wait a minute, it's a split ! Where all of the scribes are predicting doom and gloom, for the Padres to come out of the series 2-2 is a building block...and the pitching had a nice set of 4 games...and the fans came back...not sure how many were LA 's, but what the heck... gotta love Heath Bell ... For all of the hullabaloo about how tough the Master's layout was supposed to be... the boys ripped it apart ... Chad Campbell threw a marvelous 7 under at the rest of the field, and it would have been better had he not choked the last 2 holes ...notables were Larry Mize (-5), the Shark (-2), and Tiger (-2)...Lefty and Sergio are further back... It's jockeying position time for the NBA...PDX is in 3rd and host the Lakers tonight...the Blazers have played them well at home this season and I expect that trend to continue tonight...Utah vs. SA is a good one also... who cares about the East ... I got to go out and hit the links yeste...

The Masters

Image
The telecast doesn't start until 1...but look at my feed on the right and follow it all...for such a long course it just hasn't been a long hitter that has won it lately. Well Tiger is fit and ready to go ... Manny and the Dodgers won game 3 at San Diego as the Kooz/Headley combo went hitless...our run production is terrible...7 in 3 games...hang in there Pads... I went out and watched a baseball game in Salem yesterday... froze my nose off ... The Blazers beat a short handed San Antonio team at SA...actually moved PDX into 3rd...keep that up and they have the home field advantage for most of the playoffs ... I know it is early, but I'd hate to be a Yankee right now...Is it just me or are the Rangers a formidable hitting group?...the Mets have everything...break up the Orioles ... Where is Sergio ?

A Good Sign

Image
It took a grand Chris Young outing to make the season a bit brighter for the Padres . Nearly half as many faithful(?) showed up to Petco after the opening day debacle. Yet for every negative that I wrote about, they were a positive today... Kooz and Headley looked to be what I thought they would be...and, Heath Bell !!! 3 K's ...that's what I'm talking about! Now that I am in the great northwest for a bit, I have to put up with a 4 page sports section . Yes, you heard me right! 4 pages !!! The Statesman Journal appears to be no more than a community rag in the wee country... I have not talked much about the rest of the MLB...but I love the demise of the Yankees ...what's with the start of the Phillies ? the Mets are the real deal...nobody is going to touch the Red Sox this year...just early thoughts. The Masters . No better drama in golf. Starts tomorrow and I watch it all... And finally, the Blazers came back from nowhere to upend Memphis in a must win...keep ...

No Doubt

Image
The UNC Tar Heels left no doubt that they are the champs of D-1 hoops. They finished off Michigan State the same way everyone they faced in the tourney... by double digits !...I had them and yes by 12+...I do get some things right. Such an eery feeling at the Padres / Dodgers game yesterday...that there was no change in the team from last year. Kooz was in a position to show his improved stroke...yet on a hitter's advantage 2-0 pitch, he was late... ends up hitting a dribbler to the mound ... Let's get positive. The fans came out in droves, the largest crowd ever at Petco. Eckstein gives us a tough competitor and able to bunt... Blanco actually threw out a runner...the bullpen had a nice outing... Peavy , although not sharp in the 1st, pitched well after with 8 K's... And negative. Kooz and Headley appear to have the same long strokes...we still need to find a 5 spot hitter (maybe Floyd after he comes off the DL)... Let's see how we fair tonight with CY...

JaKKKKKKe Peavy

Image
It's finally here. The Padres host the hated LA Dodgers in a twilight game at Petco. Our ace, Jake Peavy , goes and needs a bunch of K's to get the Pad's off on the right foot. All, and I mean all, the scribes pick the Padres as the doormat of the NL West... What a finish at the Dinah Shore ! Boom Boom Lincicome unleashed 2 mighty blasts to no.18...calmly sank her eagle putt and won her 1st major... Over in the boys will be boys in Texas, Paul Casey survived a playoff with another boomer, J.B. Holmes....all of you who bought the R-9 driver, Sergio finished last... It's UNC versus Michigan State for the D-1 crown tonight...UNC by 12+... Quick now, can you name half of the Padre's pitching staff? That's what I thought... The Blazers got in the playoffs last night by the Suns losing...still they played marginally against the Rockets and sure show their vulnerability...the Lakers and Cavs are the best and will square off after all the dust settles... Pad...

Opening Day

Image
Well we are just a day away from opening day ...I have already given you my predictions and all, but, it is the excitement of what may be...I'm telling you, Kooz is going to have a break out year... Michigan State ! Who'd a thunk it? Izzo must be a magician to get that rag tag crew to the final game. My pick, UNC , is right there in the path...and will win the crown. Nothing like playing in the wind to humble even the best at golf. Just look at the women at the Dinah Shore try to survive their 1st major of the season... My oh my Lefty ...didn't even make the cut at the Shell. If you caught his interview after...well there is a reason for his nickname, FIGJAM ... Have you noticed all the promotions to sell golf clubs? My favorite is by Golfsmith's...if you buy a Taylor Made R-9 driver and Sergio Garcia wins the Masters...they will refund the price of the club to you! Think Nike would do the same for Tiger? SDS has won 3 straight from UC Davis...the Aztecs are a ver...
