Now I know that they are playing a patsie in the PSU Vikings , but it is the right way to start the season...get the kinks out against somebody other than yourself and not stub your BCSBS toes...for you CH doubters read back, as the Beavs are my sleeper team of the year... The Dux suspended TB Blount for his actions for the season...get this...he is through for the year, but because he is on scholarship, he is to practice for the rest of it...yea, right, he'll be out the door ASAP... Head Coach Chip Kelly is under the gun, so to speak... The Padres beat up on old LA last night and shut them out! Wade LeBlanc , topping out at 83 mph on his heater, led 'em...he is a southpaw, but really! If you're interested in interesting happenings in collegiate football, turn your interest towards the Orange from Syracuse ...their QB is none othe...

All of the fears I had about the Dux came to fruition...and more! Let's talk 1st about the Broncos ...they were prepared and ready for the game and led by Kellen Moore , easily popped the visitors 19-8 ... Now the other side... the new coach ...easily the worst prepared big league coach I have ever seen ...where was the life in that team? Offensively, not one 1st down in the entire 1st half !!! The defense allowed Moore to pick off the D at will until the 2nd half...lack of game plan...Grade this an "F" ... At the conclusion of the game, the Dux TB Blount , lost all semblance of a big league FB player...and sucker punched one of the BSU players who was not wearing his helmet...I'm sure a video that will be shown throughout the US today...talk about a blight in your opening day ...just more of a tell-tale scenario of where this program is heading...let's see how they handle it ... And now my final issue with the Dux ...they did not go through the NCAA proper ...

Hey , it is the time that all you hackers make out your Christmas list...and of course, the one thing that absolutely makes your golf game...is the driver ! And the change that has been made in them is pretty awesome...new ones can cost upwards from $399 ...think about where they started with persimmon woods ...the pros back when would hit 280 yard drives with them...now the titanium is the thing and the size has increased immensely...and the pros hit 'em 320... Hey, but they are a huge improvement...it seems like everyone has their own preference...you can make a case for each... I have to tell my side of the story...I am the biggest fan of the Dux this side of LA...but there are too many reasons to not pick them for Thursday's game at Boise ...I know I'm repeating myself, but...a new coach replacing a very successful old one...a Nike world expectation...an untested defense going against a very wide open offense...a BSU team that beats almost everyone at home (61-1)...however, if the Dux do prevail it will show that all my worries are for naught...and I am very hopeful, but not necessarily a believer...yet... The Padres are on the right track...they have been playing their youth and it has been working...as you know I'm not a GM Towers fan...this should have been done last season...it's just a bit early, but the fans will return... The sign of the times...the Bolts can't get sold out...a problem most everywhere, as there is not the money that used to be...nice for the players as the owners still have money... Without a doubt, my favorite college season is the football one...not withstanding the ludicrous lack of playoffs, the game themselves are so much fun...and this year I'm going to do a pick 'em for the season... Bear with me and add your picks and here we go... 1. Orygun at Boise St . BSU is 61-1 at home and are coming off a Duck whipping last year at Autzen...The Dux have a new coach and are nationally ranked...well, it is the home team for me... BSU 2. Navy at Ohio St. Nobody wants to start against a ball control team...they want a wide open affair...still OSU is too much and they get my pick... OSU 3. Portland St. at Oregon St. Looks like a blow out...PSU is reportedly improving...OSU is my sleeper pick in the Pac -10...yup, a rout... OSU 4. BYU at Oklahoma See no. 2 above...the Sooners get their wish and it will be up and down the field...do not underestimate the Cougars...closer than you think... Okla 5. It was the dream of every little leaguer, Chula Vista's regal squad upended Taiwan and won the world title! As I threw at you yesterday, the whole community won too... Very cool stuff ... Up in Portland the LPGA held their Safeway Classic and M.J. Hur beat Suzanne Petersen and ancient Michele Redman in a playoff... Michele Wie closed with a 66 and finished 4th... On a brand new course in NY ...oops make that NJ ...where it takes $500,000 grand to join and there are but 100 members...somehow, they got the Barclays to host...well, Heath Slocum (?) hit a 20 footer and staved off a group of 4 others (ie. somebody named Woods ) and won the event in the PGA... We watched a movie last night featuring Kate Beckinsale ... "Nothing But The Truth" a flick about a reporter's right to protecting his/her source...thought provoker and get it and watch it... My very old coaching buddy is still at it in Monmouth, OR , coaching FB at the university there...problem is he...

So you think it's just a little league game ...guess again! We were at a 50+ birthday party last night among a huge throng of ...get this...home grown, city proud, my cousin knows..., people in Chula Vista ...and that was most everything they talked about...yup, the Little League team from their little town...so yes, they are playing for the title today and there could not have been more pride and honor for the area...and you think there is too much emphasis on sports...as I said to one of the party goers "it's just a little league game..." and his response was, "you must not be from Chula Vista!" ... Which made me thinketh more... why sport ? Why not other stuff? There was a time back in Orygun that the high school swallowed up the 9th graders and what was left over was the middle school...and the powers to be eliminated competitive sports ...well, that lasted a few short years, as the school lost it's identity ...go to any small town or city and...
