Baseball? Baseball!

Image
SDS began it's season yesterday up in Compton and with the phenom Stephen Strasburg got their 1st win. He was clocked in triple digits routinely in his season's debut. Listen for his name people! USD also got a win and this area is deep in baseball talent. Well, it is in the collegiate arena... The Pads are in spring training and are figuring out their rotation now. Adrian G says that he has a pitcher on the Mexico team that would be starter No. 4 for SD...if he speaks KTowers listens... My fantasy team was drawn yesterday and my key players are from the Mets...I am the Gaslamp Sun this year... Yes, I can't wait for the season to start... In the NBA the Lakers, Cavs, Magic, Suns, and Blazers all picked up wins...the Suns lost Amare to an eye injury for 2 months, KG is out for the Celts with a bum ankle, Oden is out for PDX with a leg thing, and Zach is suspended for punching a Sun in the face...a bummer for the 1st 3 and a bum for the last... I can't believe I'm ...

Lefty in LA, Lookout

Image
Well Lefty has finally decided to show up and play at a tourney. He carded a 63 in the LA Open, or whatever it is called now. The course fits him as he can hit it anywhere and still have a shot at the green. Done deal. It's all Lefty's. And as I said yesterday, the Tiger is lurking, and is coming out next week in the Match Play event...get it while you can Lefty... The USD free fall continues and with the loss at St. Mary's, this season is beyond repair. Sorry but it's true. The Pads are full of optimism as they begin their spring training...as we all are. But, they have to find a way to hit and run....run and run...and run...is that possible? So you fire your FB coach and still have to pay him...so you decide to keep him on campus...so you give him a job description as an analyst...of what? The FB program? Ooops...SDS!!! After all the hype very little movement was done in the NBA. Very good for the Blazers who were scaring me with Carter and Shaq trades... And the Left...

Bikes, Sandals, Sunshine

Image
So I am thinking it is about the time to put on my sandals and bike around the San Diego Bay...finally back in to the 70's here. This is the last day for trades in the NBA and the Blazers fans are holding their breath...lots of rumors out there that the underachieving Vince Carter is making his way to the great Northwest...the price tag of Sergio, Travis O, and a future seems way out of line... The Pads have named Heath Bell as their closer...yea! He has shed about 35 pounds and is in great shape. This is the bright spot of the squad...Not that Jake and Adrian are not... Misguided steps by the USD hoops team is creating quite a stir around here. The expectations of the year were huge, but injuries and team rules infractions have put this season out of control. Too bad, it seemed like a good one. But you have to have your players on the same page. The Bolts have inked and labeled the heir apparent to the running back position to Darren Sproles. It is a good move and now clears...

'Roids Chapter 2

Image
I found the interview of Alex Rodriguez by the media in Tampa yesterday awkward at best. He kept using the I was young and stupid answer, the I'm not sure what I was injecting answer, I want to put this behind me answer...sure why not. Unfortunately he appears to be the spokesperson for all the 'roids guys...and no the media will not stop there. Now that is a stupid answer...This just opens the 2nd chapter of this long non-fiction book. Aw, spring training is in the works. The anticipation of a new and better season...mostly it is hope for the Pads. When you make but a few changes that usually means you have a great foundation...you think? The NBA's 2nd half began with a bang. Former Jailblazer Zach Randolph punches out an opponent and gets ejected in a 30 point loss to the Suns. The Lakers, Magic, Hornets, and the Jazz all started out the right way with big V's. And finally, Tiger is lurking and the rest of the PGA is hoping it's just a rumor... OK, I'm hitting...

Spring Roids

Image
So now the forgive and forget mode is in for MLB, there are those who say balderdash to that. They cling to the thought that none of the guilty parties should have any of the statistics that they illegally garnered count. Guys like David Ortiz, Chris Young, and others feel like the roiders are garbage and everybody must be tested. Seems overwhelming to me, as I think the majority used them. As I said before the game is about cheating... Now that the All-Star break is over, the NBA resumes their 2nd half of the season. Not without another coach getting the axe, former Trailblazer Terry Porter, was let go from the Suns. I think the Phoenix job is a difficult one with Shaq being a member...they went from fast pace to methodical, never a winning proposition. I will be surprised if any team emerges other than these: Lakers, Spurs, Cavs, Celts, and the Magic... So you want methodical...what ever happened to 90+ games in the college ranks? More teams have become so regimented that ...

Prez Day

Image
As I look back on how the Presidents affected me in my life I've decided to go through them as I have lived my life. Do not get mad at me for this...this is how I felt they shaped my mind towards them... Harry Truman: Really a stretch here as I was an infant...but he dropped the bombs on Japan and stopped the 2 nd world war...before me but led us into the cold war, but the world feared us for the bombs. Ike: I felt safe. Technology was a far cry from where we are now and it seemed like we were in a time warp, that I still miss. JFK: The best orator of all time as a Prez . His good looks and mild manner was such a jump for us worldwide. His day of death was and is the most defining real moment in my history. Can remember where I was and what I was doing...I bet you can, too. It was the point in time for news on the TV. As far as REAL diplomacy...we were in a mess with Russia, Cuba, and Vietnam...and don't know what he would have done. LBJ: The worst. He was a bully and used it ...

FAITH

Image
Don't worry I am not going to convert you. I am however going to take you through a FAITH based journey. I am currently reading a book called "The 19 th Wife." It is a part fact, part fiction piece about Polygamy. Really it has opened my eyes to what we call religion. Just what is a religion? Must it be about God? Must it be about only one God? Is there only one religion for all mankind? If the color of your skin is different does that mean you have a different religion? If you live in India rather than Iraq does that mean you have a different God? If you are Catholic does that mean you are different than Jewish? Can you only marry in your religion? If you are Mormon can a person of different color be a member? Is any religion measured by how many followers you have? If you belong to one religion can you understand somebody of another? On and on... I used to say that Algebra is like a religion of sorts. If you believe the foundation of the truths of Algeb...
