The Weekend

I keep hearing that if one is retired, every day is like a Saturday...suppose so...maybe more like a day off...well, you see, I am between jobs...and it has been quite a while since the last one...I could try to be a starter out at a golf course...but...I am undependable...I could deliver newspapers...but...that's too early for moi...hmmm, might drive an Uber...but, I don't like people much...well, random ones....so, see, I am still looking...

Out at the Farmer's, the last year's champ, Jon Rahm, has moved into contention again...young buck that can hit it a mile...Lefty had a terrific two days and is right there...however, the lights are all on Tiger...who crafted out a -1 on the NC...and MADE the cut...hey, he will get better...he is pain free...and best of all, the clan of ours that is going out to Torrey on Sunday, get to see the spectacle...

An interesting NBA game last eve...the Rockets were at the N'rleans whatever they are now...should be the Jazz, right?...the Jazz are now in Utah...give me a break...think there is any Jazz there?...furthest from it in this country...I digress...N.O. won it...the inside game of Houston stinks...oops, too rabid...however, the big news is that Boogie went down...Cousins...appears to be his achilles...if true, he is through for a long time...absolutely the finish to playing that game...

Hey, I was talking 'germaphobe' the other day...and then saw this...which I never, ever thought of...probably one of the biggest germ carriers?...your bloody TV remote...use them wipes regularly on 'em...don't spray anything on it...could mess up the works...household hint from the Horse...

Think that Hope is Ms Hick's real name?...sometimes people make up those to be cool...you know most stars don't use their real ones...they have them catchy 'Lucy Ball' ones...well, to protect the innocent...

Your Super Bowl...you do know that people bet lots on the game...right?...well, there is this bloke who went into the MGM in Vegas...and wagered 'multi-millions' on the Eagles...the powers to be at that casino...had to do some verifying...took a few days...accepted it...and then, promptly DROPPED the spread from 5.5 to 4.5, favoring the Pats...hmmm...you can still get the 5.5 elsewhere, just not at the MGM...I sweat over $5...

Ah the rumor center...with the Cavs...reminder that the whipping boy is said to be All Star Kevin Love...hmmm, not so fast my friends...digging deeper, it could be that the lads are actually talking about Isaiah Thomas...who I have told you...that his presence changes that team...and NOT in a good way...and that is the latest from Cleveland...back to you, Chet...

Remember the Huntley/Brinkley Report?...NBC's version of the news...way back when...listen, they were one of the great teams in broadcasting...combating the CBS's Walter Cronkite...3rd place always was whomever ABC tried...anyway, one was in NYC and the other was in DC...this now goes way back...a Horse report...in the 8th grade we had to make a live speech...and these 2 real smart dudes in class, did their version of Huntley/Brinkley...it was so good, that no one wanted to follow them...weird memory...I can actually remember their names...Dave Albright and Randy Graves....I was in the back of the room flipping nickels....all true...back to you, David...

You see we have this off white silk rug...you know where I am going to go with this...it gets dirty...bad dirty...anyway, we took it back to where we bought it...he told us to bring it back whenever we needed it cleaned...'you didn't walk on it with shoes did you?'...I mean it's a rug, dude...isn't that what you are supposed to do?...can't hang it on the wall, now can we?...he got it spotless...and I afraid to walk on the bloody rug...

I dunno about all this girl power thinger...it may have finally gone too far...KFC...you know, the Kentucky Fried Chicken biz...named their new Colonel Sanders (why isn't there an r somewhere in that word?) and it is a she...Reba McIntire...no!...Reba in white hair?...no!...next thing you know this country will have a female president...oh my....

Strange Brew

Hi kids!...how the heck (Harper) are you?...just a glorious week here in the hood...cool at night and warm during the day...doesn't get any better than that...and yup, them golfing blokes are out at Torrey Pines...and the T has begun...the tele broadcast the Tiger round in it's entirety...there were others playing?...

Tiger E Woods shot even par on the south course...normally, the tougher of the 2...however, the Tom Weiskoff Crew revamped the north...and it played very similar, score wise to the south...I suppose the whole idea for the redo...7 under is leading, so you can see...he has ground to make up...rusty?...a bit...but, I think he def is on the mend...we just want him there on Sunday...selfishly...

BREAKING...Tiger makes the cut at the Farmer's!...and the visit to the course on Sunday is on and in fine shape...his 1st T in over 350 days...

Prez T is in Switzerland...telling the world that the USA is open for business...what?...OK...what I recall about the Swiss, is that they are neutral...whatever that means...kind of the way I look at the NBA All Star Game...

The teams have been picked...old school style...Lebron and Steph were the captains and choosers...it's all silly stuff to me...the only player chosen, prior to the pick nonsense, that has no legs...geez, did I say that?...is the battered dude from the Cavs, Kevin Love...all star?...wonder if he was the last guy standing...ala, Horse...you have to take Love, King...something like that...regardless, it will be another dunkfest...and no D will be allowed...

Jimmy Kimmel took the bait...I knew someone would...and he has scheduled on his show...the 'star', Stormy Daniels...hmmm, you gonna watch?...what is the women movement gonna do?...picket the broadcast?...I smell something a brewing...it is a strange brew...

My iPhone just did a lengthy update...have no idea what changed...as the screen and the functionality seems exactly....the same...

Used to be...when I would change up me golf balls for new ones...I'd have a basket of the old ones that I replaced...not now, I just lose 'em...hit 'em in the agua...or OB...somehow they vanish...I am sporting the soccer ball type ones...I like 'em and nobody but me uses them, or so it seems...FYI...

Just maybe it's the only time you can score tix to the Super Bowl...what?...at this late a date?...the goofy league scheduled the extravaganza in Minnneeesoootta...where it is coooollld...like in the teens...good chance of flurries...and the ticket brokers are scrambling to sell off what they have available...the prices have been plummeting...no bods want to go to it THERE!...

Had a wunnerful eve with them Mackles...went to Callaway (we are members, lah tee dah) and tasted some doozy wines...and they paired their vino with some unique cheeses...so fun, and finished the nite off at Las Hadas...a norm...BTW, thanks to Barbara Jo (alias BJ) for the kind comments on me blog...she is a regular reader...a gold star one...you see, the Horse gives out ratings for the tried and true...

The Farmer's

Morning, ya'll...this is THE opening of the Farmer's Insurance T out at Torrey Pines...where the one and only Tiger E Woods is making yet another comeback...by all accounts, he looks great, fit and ready for the challenge...of course, there are a bunch of other blokes there, too...ie, Lefty...Rickie...to name but a few...but, the...make that THE story...is the return of Tiger...

Torrey is a monster of a course...public one, mind you...7200 yards or something insane like that...it just wears you out...I think even the pros might feel like that, too...I dunno...but, get to the holes with the ocean view, and it all seems worthwhile...when I play it, THAT is a respite...our plan is for the Sunday round...senior rate of $35 a head to get into the grounds and roam about...

MLB's Hall of Fame...my bugaboo about it, is that it's voted on by writer's...boo...in lieu of players and managers...still, a huge honor...and finally the closer from the Pads, Trevor Hoffman, got in...yesterday...it is a terrific achievement..for sure...well deserved and...groovy as all get out...we saw him in the latter stages of his career, here...

So much fun listening to all the fixes that should be made to the Cavs...by him and her and everyone who has a keyboard and a microphone...who they should sit, who they should trade, and who they should fire...listen to me, Cleveland...just watch your east combatants, the Celtics...they play HARD, each and every game...which YOU do not...ie YOU, LeBron...witness the awesome effort of them last eve versus the Clip Joint...

Ah, nothing like the rumor mill...staying with the Cav situation...the closed door meeting...as the players aired their grievances...and the whupping boy, was allegedly Kevin Love...and the leader of the griping?...Isaiah Thomas...calling the kettle, well, you know...no better example of the feeling was a video of the last game...Love went down on a collision...and there was a fellow player who actually stepped over him...looked down at him...did NOT extend a hand to help him up...and moved on...deep seeded problem there...move on, Kevin...let their team fall apart...sad for him...

4, count 'em 4...straight times that the Horse has pushed his cart out at the golf course...not that I don't feel it later on in the day...but, it is a positive step in the right direction...I feel great and one thing about walking instead of riding a power cart...it gives me time to blow off steam after one of my many erratic hits...I think I came so close to a hole in one yesterday...5 iron that had to have brushed the hole...of course, I missed the 2 1/2 foot birdie putt...spaz...

You'd think that the first lady would want to join her man, for the trip to Switzerland...right?...Melania is reportedly still fuming over the alleged pay off for the '06 Donald shenanigans...allegedly...ah yes, the personal life of the rich and famous...

I was reading an article about germs...you know, a person could be a 'germafobe'...is that even a word?...and the many things that are real and those that are old wives...wait, can't say that anymore...let's call them mysterious myths that have been previously referred to as truths...MMPRT's...there, that is better...and these popped up...what do you think?

Crazee

In all my years of guzzling beer...I am of age...I've gone through preferences as well as anyone...here's a fact that most can't fathom...I didn't have a beer until I was 21...really...my dad gave me a taste of his...like when I was a teenybopper, as he was having the ONLY one I ever remember him having...as he was watching a weekend boxing match...and I hated it!...probably pretty smart on his part...

But, I caught up with everyone pretty fast after...my twenties...my first?...Old English 800...yes, my good friends, I got violently ill from that...and delayed my imbibing a bit...until I had a tap beer...Miller's...at Samar's...in Salem, Orygun...coupled with fresh popcorn that Sarge would serve...how about that for a memory?...it was a new sensation...

The list arose quickly...Hamm's, Olympia, Blitz, and Budweiser...but, in that state, a unique thing was the law...a Colorado beer, Coors, couldn't be purchased due to the non-pasteurization of it...thus, it was coveted by me and all me buds...a trip to Washington or California was gold...golden...cuz, you always bought a case to bring back to share with EVERYONE...it's true...it was sold there...

One of my great memories that I have about the Coors...Marsh and I took off on a SoCal trip during spring break...in our VW Camper Van...made it all the way to Orland...as I stopped by a small market to get some Coors cans...a tall 6 pack...pulled into the RV Park...and set up the site...unraveled the kitchen table...for you who know about them VDoubs, it was a special moment...opened up the cooler and popped open one of them Coors...sat back and said 'ah, this is the good life!'...a true statement...Marsh looked at me, with daggers in her eyes, and was no longer smitten with me...

Time marches on...we even went through a spell that we made our very own beer...you heard that right...there was a place that you could do that...a Heferveisen...something like that...as peops were into different tastes of beer...we called ours 'Darmeister', after our Pommie....and actually gave quarts away for Xmas...talk about class...we had it all over us...

Now...there are these things called 'Growlers'...that many use for transporting their 'micro-beers'...seems like everyone is now making their own...yup, it is the thing...you may even have one...not moi, yet...

Anyway, there is this study out by some beer yahoos...that did their survey to list the top 3 in the land...this makes sense, as we always want to know who number one is in the USA...right?...here are the results....

3-  Miller Lite....2-  Coors Lite (now available in Orygun)...and, drum roll please...the most favorite beer in the land?...Bud Light...geez...that's what the Horse prefers, too...

Back At Work

This media world just happens to live in the NEGATIVE...the top 10 items I have read for the day...in my eleven sources...all negative...let's start with the top story for the nation the last 3 days...the SHUT DOWN...

Well, it is now back OPEN...albeit, it is for a couple of weeks...as Congress works on a more substantial compromise...not sure why it is so hard to do...but it is...yet none of my sources have this as their lead headline...not one of them...but, if the day got to 4...it would have been...apparently...

The Oscars...the ultimate pretty person award if you are an actor...listed this year's nominees...alas, the headline was not that, but that James Franco did not get one...they are blaming it on his sex stuff...there you go...something about 'Water' got like 13 noms...of course, we have seen none of the flicks...zero...nada...zilch...

A huge earthquake hit Alaska in the early am...like 7.9 or so...and gave the tsunami warning up and down the west coast...like at 4 am...and since has been lifted...all done while we were asleep...mother nature at work...

Neil Diamond...has now been diagnosed with Parkinson's...so sad...he has gained recent fame for his song 'Sweet Caroline'...that the MLB's Boston Red Sox featured during their hey days...I really like 'Cracklin' Rosie'...it reminds me of the time when I just graduated from college...and was playing pool at 'the bar'...'The Museum'...a place that soon after got shot up...one of the first reported mass shootings...really...so tragic...

The NBA...it's the time of the way too long season, that teams start trying to fix their problems...ha ha...the Bucks gave their HC Jason Kidd, the heave ho...yea, that'll work...the Cavs, did the closed door team meeting...yea, they NEVER work...air the grievances...the reported whipping boy, Oregon's own, Kevin Love...oh my...yea, he's 6'10' playing center...can't jump...his fault...

Gotta stay with the Cavs a bit longer...there has been a virus in their system for a couple of years...their G, Kyrie Irving, wanted out...and got traded to the Celts...in came another problem...Isiah Thomas...short, hogs the ball, can't defend, and worse of all, has an attitude...one word to describe 'em...implode...

My Tennessee Titans hired their new HC...Mike Vrabel...isn't there some vowels missing in his name?...I digress...made a statement to the press...that ruffled some feathers...called the NCAA as the 'farm system' for the NFL...ie, the two best at it...'Bama's Nick Saban and the Buckeye's Urban Meyer...I suppose he is right...but, if you look at the rosters of the teams in the league...they are from everywhere in the Nation, ie, the D-3 teams...hmmm...

A tid bit...that is included in the sides of many web sites...one on AOL caught me eye...'Stars Who Can't Stand Oprah'...there you go...click on that...and it will show you the names...with countless amounts of ads...that one has to sift through...name the names...not too sure YOU want to be on that list...

We watched a show I bought through iTunes...'Carrie Underwood's Storybook Tour'...she is...AMAZING!...if you can get it, it is worth every dime...er, dollar...filmed in Madison Sq Garden...NYC...hmmm, odd, but we've never been there...you can thank me later...

The talk around town....well, in the golfing part of it...is that Tiger E. Woods is playing in the Farmer's out at Torrey Pines this week...a place that he has won 8 times...egads...eight?...we are going on Sunday (maybe Saturday)...with them Gahrs...they are true golf nuts...well, they are true nuts...period...great peops...let's hope there is one Woods in contention...

Finally, is it that hard to get the paper delivered on time?....or, at all?...we have had issues repeatedly with the Trib...is it the carrier or the paper company?...man, they ask a lot of cash for it...any more of this...and we may be like most of the country...paperless...it is aggravating...

Greetings From Down Under

Hey now, a big hearty HELLO ALL!...how is your morn?...great cup of french roast in hand...and yes, I am set for the day...I say 'Greetings from down under!'...well, calm down you Aussies, not from there...but from down under LaLa Land...I have a golf thinger and well, the weather is cool and sunny...so all is wunnerful here...

Not so much as far as your Senators are concerned....listen kids, the Shut Down is in day 3...and if it were up to me (and probably you) I'd (we) have them all impeached, disbarred, recalled, whatever it takes to get someone there that would do the job for those that elected them to office...to serve THE people...this self serving crap they throw out is downright disgusting...

There is a list of what is being closed, held open, paid and not paid...our military is on hold...still work, but just not getting a pay check...does that numb you a bit?...yea, me too...do the Senators still get paid?...I throw out at you, another...disgusting...

The Super Bowl is set...New England (duh) and the Philly Eagles...give the ball to Tom Terrific in the latter part of the 4th Q to win the game...and it is done...no better QB does or has existed...there was a call that the Jags are pointing to that 'cost' them the game...to me, the Pat runner was down...the defender stole the ball and figured he may have scored...whistle had blown it dead...so fuggit about scoring on it...everyone stopped...but, the replay shows to me that the ball should have been NE's...it wasn't...whatever, the Pats prevailed...

The other game was a blow out...surprisingly so...man, how many seasons ago was our Chip, Philly's boss?...and was going nowhere?...absolutely mauled the Vikings...firing on all cylinders, it was never close...38-7...thereabouts...terrific D and enough O to make this a laugher...sorry Minnnnesssottta, but it's true...one of THOSE games for you...so, the pairing is set...the Eagle crowd was chanting that they wanted 'Brady', for most of the last stanza...calm down, kids, you will get him...if that's what you REALLY want...

We've been watching the series on Netflix...Jerry Seinfeld's Coffee and Cars...something like that...kind of funny...like him...kind of funny...the premise is this...he picks up a fellow comedian in a unique car...every time a different rig...they talk, ride, and then go to a local coffee shop...and drink and eat and talk...ya'll get to know the guest in a different way...the one surprise thus far?...Sarah Jessica Parker...who appears to be a really, REALLY, fun gal...I am now in lurve with her...

For the 'can't make this stuff up' category for the day...Matt Lauer, the NBC Today Show host who got the boot, got the boot from his wife, too...from their home...and the porn star...who allegedly was accompanying Donald J, back in '06...well, sort of...has hit the 'touring bus'...performing everywhere..."Make America Horny Again' is her headline...coming to a 'celebrity strip club'  near you, soon...can't make this up...nope...

So how are the Ball Bros doing in Lithuania?...ESPN is covering them 24/7...so, it is news...right?...these are the two sons of Lavar...one who he is home schooling...wait, how does he do that from afar?...and the other who was dropped from the UCLA team...the shoplifting caper in China...the coach from there...not too happy with their style of play...geez, that really surprises me...you?...won't be long before Daddy Ball will be calling for the ouster of that coach...the pattern...

Everyone Has A Story

As I look out of our windows...gazing at the multitudes of vertical housing that we live in...it's like being a part of many communities...so many people in a small area...that probably used to be holed up in a house...perhaps in a gated area...with grass, and roofs, and their own siding, and on and on...big space that one could put all their things...their own garages, to harbor not only their rigs, but more stuff...and now?...that's all gone...

Well, for us mere mortals it is...there are those who still have one or two...probably in Arizona...or, well, if you gots the cash, you may be from anywhere...right?...but most of us...have done a priority...and condensed our living space to the condo life...somewhere between 1,000 and 2,000 square feet...if you are still in a house, could you do this?...

The stories are pretty much all the same who move their life into one...how much stuff they had accumulated over time...that they either never use or need...most of us, have a small storage area...and believe me, it is small...like for me extra golf clubs and Xmas ornaments and lighting...the essentials...ha ha...and they almost all say the exact same thing...'it is so life changing!'...

Yes, you pretty much walk everywhere...restaurants, bars, parks, coffee shops...the bay...the airport is 5 minutes away...the baseball park, Petco, is 8 blocks away...the list goes on...and Marsh walks 5 blocks to her real estate office...to say, this is all convenient...is an understatement...geez, the off track betting parlor is 2 blocks away...

But, my statement is this...Everyone Has A Story...the inhabitants all come from housing from another area...witness the amounts of people, that Marsh deals with, who want to relocate here...and or retire, here...listen kids, it is not cheap...a 1 bedroom and 1 parking, are beginning at $350,000...you heard me right...starting...and the 2 and 2, lets just say you are in the lows at $700,000 on up...thus...they have to have MONEY to live here...er, at least HAD...ha ha...

Missing in all of these condos...are kids...there are a few...but really, it is an adult community...anyway, as I look out...there are so many peops just like us...

Back in time...when I was teaching...one of the most repeated lines I would hear...'I hate math'...yup, that is what I taught...mostly...and I would try to break that down...saying it is like a religion...if you believe the basic principles of it, all else makes sense...so...don't miss the first couple of weeks...it's true...and I also tried to integrate the subject into real life...the use and all...

However, there were times that I'd go off the subject...when I could see that either they or I were (was?) bored...and give this Horse truism...'that everyone here has something they are good at...it may not be a mathematician, but it could be a writer, or, sports person, or hairdresser...you get my drift...something...it may not be evident right now...but, it's your quest to find it...in life...so hang in there...and keep searching....it is out there....'...I wonder how many of my students remember this?...every once in a while, and I would have a former student remind me of the talk...

You know, they had to hear that from someone...used to be the clergy...may still be...could be from their parents...maybe from a friend...someone and somewhere...

Here is what I got for the NFL playoffs today...do NOT bet 'em...the Vikings over the Eagles...and the Pats over the Jags...I am notoriously wrong on these picks over the years...sad, but true...a prognosticator, I am not...

The Cavs continue on their downward spiral...getting obliterated at home by the underproducing Thunder...BTW, OKC may have awakened...and may post a threat to Golden St after all...there are rumors that LeBron James may want his coach removed...again...such a sweetheart...listen, they are old and can't defend...or don't care to...oh yea, the Warriors got beat at Houston...hmmm...their 14 game winning streak on the road is over...duh...

Let's be clear...the women of this country are letting their feelings out...judge by the marches yesterday...and no, Prez T, it was not for the anti-abortion...I think it was cuz of...you...the SAG Awards tonight...more of the same...

Yup, the government is SHUT DOWN...how is that gonna affect you?...well, take this in...the Air Force Academy has canceled all their athletic games until further notice...just a teaser as to what will come next...your Senators at work for the common man and woman of this country...!!!...get your act together and find a way...so disgusting...

And this...we had a celebratory dinner at Fleming's last eve....and my good friends, it was exemplary...terrific service, as well as terrific food...highly recommend...and yes, kids, we walked there...

Finally...played golf in the cold yesterday...and I was NOT prepared...it actually hailed on us a bit...wait, in San Diego?...you heard me right...and when we were on the furthest point away from the club house, a dude I was playing with said this, 'lightning strike nearby' flashed on his phone...for those who know me, I am terrified by the lightning...we made it thru 9 holes and I BOLTED....
