Ducks Win Ducks Win

Image
The Duck's hoop team won the CBI Invitational , 2 games to 1, over Creighton...what?  Let's see, we have the Big Dance , the NIT , and now, the CBI ...not exactly sure what this is all about...who makes the money off of this one?  Do the schools involved get some?  I am very skeptical ...by the way, have you taken in the TV show on collegiate recruiting and money laundering on the HBO special ?  We are being swindled and yet, we just let it happen... the NCAA , the governing group has but 44 investigators to control the corruption in collegiate sport...they pretty much have to get a "tip" to trigger their work...it's time that the college prezzes step up and do something...if not, it'll be the press and pundits that dig in and unleash what's been going on... Staying on the money train...in MLB there is a class system of sorts, where the rich ( NY ) have $200 million of salaries to play with...and on the poor end, teams like SD have $45 million...th...

Welcom to the Bigs

I bet you don't know this Padre ...it's the new CF ... Cam Maybin ...who resurrected SD from an opening day loss at Saint Louie, with 2 outs in the 9th...with an awesome HR to deep center...tying up the game and then getting the winning hit in the eleventh...as the pitching staff had a gem and preserved the 5-3 WIN!   Hey, I told you it would take 5 runs to get it... NBA beat... the Lakers destroyed the Mavs in LA...the lowlight was the ejection of a number of players due to a throw down of Blake by Dallas's Terry ...enter the all time jerk of Matt Barnes , and the shoving match got embarrassing...of course the refs were trying to control the sit, but your boy, Joey Crawford threw a shove himself...he's a beaut...like in hockey, the stars were on the outer edges... College Hoops... SDS's Steve Fisher won the Rupp Coach of the Year Award ...nice, as he deserved it...so says me...by the way, the semi's are tomorrow... WIDE OPEN ... OK, OK, I am...

Hot Damn

Hey it's here!  The Pads open up at St. Louie...actually a national TV game... GO PADS! Gotta get right to Idol ...was not crazy about the Elton John song thinger when I first heard it... BUT ...they did a great job with them...so surprised...I saw no reason to change my mind on the top two... Pia and Lauren ...or is it, Lauren and Pia ...not as crazed about Haley as the judges...and Scotty just hung on with his...OK, who is going?  For sure, if you could figure out the public...same as the bottom two of last week, and they are the ones eliminated...both guys... It was 84* out at Sycuan yesterday without a hint of wind...so nice...me, you ask?  Double bogied 3 of the very easy par 3's and shot an 87...shoulda, coulda, woulda, but didn't...regardless, much easier than Torrey... Survivor ... Boston Rob in control until the merge...then it's anybody's guess...but he does have the Idol ...what another use of the word Idol ? Must score 5 runs to win to...

Opening Day Nears

Image
Finally, it approaches... Opening Day ... the Pads are at St. Looie...with all the changes the GM has made, it's put up time...last year I picked SD as the West champ ...and had it until the fateful 10 game loss streak near the end and lost it in the last game...yuck...this year, I'm much more pessimistic ...in fact, I figure to be fighting it out with the DBacks for... LAST ...just the facts, mam... The team that is destined to get my "fav pick?"  The Red Sox ...2 huge pick ups in AG, and Crawford...already with a stud filled lineup...they are my pick of the season... My dud of the year?   The Los Angeles Dodgers ...it'll be fun to watch that team struggle...maybe.just maybe, we can overtake them... NBA ... how sweet it is ... the Cavs got some revenge on the Hea t...beating 'em decisively in Cleve... PDX looks to be anywhere from 6 to 8...regardless, a great job by Coach Nate to get 'em in the playoffs... My 2nd time out at Torrey Pines Nort...

Rosters

Image
Finger nail times for so many wannabees in the baseball world...as the MLB teams get down to their opening day rosters... the Padres did a goofy thing...one day announcing the making of the team to Everth Cabrera , then...acquiring Alberto Gonzalez from the Nats and promptly, sending Cabrera to Tuscon...can be a very cruel business...more on the Pads ...what appeared to be a strength, the starting pitching.. .No. 1 Latos , out of sorts and on the DL, No. 2 Stauffer , having a decent Cactus, No. 3 Richards , being lit up by everyone, No. 4 Harang , the 2nd best showing and is ready, No. 5 LeBlanc , sent out to Tucson....which leaves the 5 spot to Mosely , acquired from the Yankees, and has not had a stellar spring...so, I am worried.. .the hitting ...much the better here... 2nd overall in the Cactus ...   NBA. . .PDX beat the Spurs in San Antone...well, they should have...SA was without Duncan, Ginobli, and Parker...who was left?  Regardless, it was a must win for t...

Monday Monday

Image
What!  I'm not golfing today?  I always golf on Mondays... Monday, Monday ....the Mamas and Papas...John, Denny, Michele, and Cass...the class of the remaining field in the Big Dance ?  UConn with Kemba being the difference...but, how about VCU...one of those "play in" teams, knocking off your Kansas...and Kentuck, a bit better than the bettors fav, UNC...by the way NCAA refs, quit calling Techs! ...look thru the box score in the MLB spring leagues, very few starters are playing this week, thus...it's too long a pre-season...you watching any of the Trump show ?  That Gary Busey is a piece of work...I'm thinking of retiring again... wait, I'm not working ...the Bay Hill, Martin Laird survived and gotter done... Tiger who ?  28 people hit the Pick 6 at Santa Anita , for a cool $16 thou each... PDX looked just ok at the Thunder (Supersonics)...but, why does Andre Miller want the ball in crucial times?  Give it up little man...up in LaLa land, the Lakers cru...

Final 4ish

Image
Just some great games yesterday...Butler continues it's amazing path...and Kemba and UConn barely beat Arizona...great stuff...each of the losing teams had nice opps to win and it wasn't the whistle or whatever that cost them the games...the way it should be...today UNC and it's bewildering play...takes on Kentucky...did the Wildcats spend too much energy in beating the east fav Buckeyes? Kansas a prohibitive 11 point smash over VCU...really? The demise of Tiger...I have been thinking about this for some while...outside of his personal life fiasco...what has been this downfall?  His driving distances...back in 2004 he was averaging 316 yards...AVERAGING...now it's like 296 or so...geez that's 20 yards kids...and he was number 2, now he is like number 30...the game is hugely psychological...maybe, just maybe... PDX is at the Thunder (Supersonics) today...a real test and another must type win... Next week the baseball world kicks off...hope...
