No Sports

Well for you who want something else here goes. My takes on some recent movies. Burn After Reading: OMG the hype on this was far above the picture itself. Mr. Angelina Jolie was actually a bit funny but the picture was way shallow. Bride Wars: Who on earth would pay money to watch this? Milk: Sean Penn has Oscar worthy notoriety for this role... Gran Torino: Clint Eastwood as the senior citizen Rambo... The Wrestler: Isn't that the same guy that was in 9 1/2 weeks? OMG New in Town: Rene has to be the weirdest chick out there...but is a great actress The Reader: Kate nude again Defiance: Auschwitz redux...does interest me...I like Daniel Craig Mall Cop: You got to be kidding Doubt: Talk about a fun film to brighten up your day Slumdog Millionaire: This has to be good...everyone says it is Revolutionary Road: Titanic 2...and Kate is nude Well there you go...I better stick to sports. Lefty was 121st at the FBR... Enjoy a good movie(?)...

OMG Lefty

Image
Lefty shoots a 5 over right out of the gate in Phoenix and actually said he wasn't that far off...OMG! The circus affair they have at that tough(?) 16 th hole is high drama. I know I'd hate to hit it there. Nobody there would be safe. So you put LeBron's picture on the cover of SI and he promptly has his worst game of the year...what curse? The count down to the Sooper Bowl in Tampa has begun and it is not a major thing on my mind. It just doesn't have the huge flair as some in the past. Portland upset USD last night...the Pilots!!! Maybe the Torreros got caught looking ahead to Gonzaga...or maybe they are not that good...or maybe Portland is greatly improved...I think I've covered all the bases there. Speaking of bases, I'm going out and watching the hot bb pro prospect pitch today at SDS, Strasberg(?)...80* here today...

Sooper Bowl

So I am not so obvious about who I pick in the Sooper Bowl. The balanced attack of the Cards will wear down the Steelers. Both teams have excellent defenses...but Phoenix has the better "O". There you go... The Bobcats, fresh off the upset of the Lakers, had to travel up north the next day and play the Blazers. No match. PDX dominated the entire time and beat up on the tired Charlotte bunch. NBA nonsense...Oden continues to improve and before too long he is going to be a real force in the league. The PDX feed also reiterated my feelings about how they defend the pick and roll... It felt so great to get out and play golf again yesterday. The warmth of the sun...

On to Arizona

Image
The PGA moves on to Arizona and guess who is making an appearance? None other than figjam himself, Lefty! So this tourney coincides with the Sooper Bowl...ouch. The Lakers got outplayed last night and lost to the Bobcats...at LA! Kobe fouled out and that was that as it did take 2 ot's for Larry Brown's team to get it done. He has knack of coaching wherever he is at. Article in the Trib that the Chargers are staying here through '09. Just try and pry the Bolts form this area...go ahead just try... The Blazers do have the 7th best record in the league right now...but are still the odd man out until they can find a way to defend better. Here me Nate, work on your D! Finally, SDS hosts TCU and if it's like the rest of the league's games the home team will win. Sorry northwest people it is supposed to get in the 80's here on the weekend...by the way why do they call Washington and Orygun the great northwest and Arizona and New Mexico the southwest? Just where...

NBA paths

The Trailblazers mauled the hapless Clips last night at the Forum. Is it still called the Forum? The game was tight through 3 quarters and then the PDX bench unloaded and put the game away. Led by Travis Outlaw Portland just wore the home team out. LAC has 4 guys out injured, including former jailblazer Zach Randolph. This is not a good job...how does Dunleavy keep or want this job? The Thunder (Supersonics) and the Wolves won also. So now it is down to the Clips and Wiz as the worst. Talk about perceptions...Pat Perez is surrounded by friends who never lost faith in his ability to win. The Golf Channel would have you believe he is not a good guy. Far from it. His rap was his emotional explosion if something goes wrong. Good on him and hopefully he has a great season. He used a new Taylor Made driver and it isn't out to the public yet. Must be a dandy... The Sooper Bowl blitz hasn't hit yet. Probably because it doesn't have a NY team in it. More pundits have stuck their nec...

Double P at the BH

Yes, Pat Perez has to love the fact that this tourney lasted 5 rounds. As he rebounded to win in the wind in the desert. His victory was helped by Steve Stricker's meltdown on his tee balls on the 10th which lost him his chance. Been there on the tee when they go wayward...nevertheless PP put together a great round and deserved the win. Congrats on his 1st! By the way, Arnold Palmer looked great! The Lakers continue their regular season journey as the best team in the NBA whupping the Spurs. Has anyone noticed the type of numbers Danny Granger has put up for the Pacers? The Celts destroyed the defenseless Mavs by 30 or something...Dirk does not even try defensively...how does Dunleavy keep his job at the Clips? When the Jazz are out of it they fold quicker than anyone...the Wolves are playing a lot better, and I am eating my Coach McHale words...the Pistons are on the way down losing to the Mingless Rockets at home... It's cold here...

And in the 5th round...

Image
Well the Bob Hope has developed into a two man race with the front running Pat Perez and the new leader Steve Stricker. Stricker has the lead after 4 rounds at a cool 33 under...what? Perez better be happy it is 5 rounds... King James did his thing last night at Utah and the Cavs won 3 of 4 on their west coast swing. PDX beat up on the turrible Wiz at Portland...wow they are bad!!! BYU held court finishing off SDS last night in college hoops. Nobody can win on the road in that league. UDUB beat UCLA in a mild upset...nice to see them win anything nowadays. OSU swept the bay area colleges and that also is a major upset! The Dux are down this year... This kind of an off day for sports...so I'm off too.
