Football Saturday

Image
You have to admit it doesn't get much better than football Saturday in the collegiates...with all the diversions that are needed in this time and age, there is none better than the US's form of a gladiator sport ... OK...the good ones today... An intriguing one up in Seattle , where the Trojans play against their old offensive coordinator...mind you this looks like a blowout (spread is 19), USC has a history of going up to the Northwest and getting upset...watch out for this fray... Utah at the Dux ...the line has gone up to 5 favoring Orygun...I am very leery of this game and would be surprised that the visitor doesn't snap this one up... Cincy at the Beavers ...a toss up that bewilders me...I figure OSU by 10 and am only worried that the TB hasn't practiced this week...yea go ahead and call up your bookie...it's a lock! Michigan St. at the Irish ...I am not a fan of the ND coaching staff and am really pulling for a Spartan win...but, I don't see it and th...

Say what?

Image
So you want your quiz for the week....this puzzle is for only those who can dig deep...he was a member of the pictured group. ..then...there is a connection to a southern rock group , that helped this guy become ...well...sort of famous...and all I'm looking for are the songs that made him a cult favorite for the two groups... name him , and the two songs ...and you win ! The resurrection of the Miami football team is on!...They thoroughly whacked the ludicrous option attack of Georgia Tech ...what kid would want to play for the Rambling Wreck with that antiquated O...a lot of praise is going out to the offensive mind of the Hurricane coordinator... I am watching the Divas on VH 1 last night...she sure can sing, but she has to get healthy again...I'm talking Kelly C ... OK, ok, ok... Jay Leno show is not that good nor funny...sorry, but it will be short lived... I can hardly wait for the upcoming " Curb Your Enthusiasm " shows featuring the cast of Seinfeld ...

Anniversary

Image
Now that we are talking anniversaries around this town...like ours of 35 years ...another one popped up that is being celebrated in it's 50th ! It's none other than the film " Some Like It Hot" ... it starred the great Marilyn Monroe , Tony Curtis , and Jack Lemmon ...I figured you'd look if I put Marilyn's pix up...so It's a film supposedly set in Florida ...fact is the beach scenes were actually shot here on Coronado Island ...and used the famous hotel here to boot...thus, the celebration and the festivities at the grand locale...and Tony is still living and is the host... NCAA. ..my pix this week are from the Mountain West ...overall I am 8-2 ...here goes... UNLV over Hawaii ...the Rebs have improved their game and the visitors have always done well in the desert...close one SDS over Idaho ...it's at the Vandals and I'm just going on the buzz around here...the QB has yet to be sacked... Air Force over New Mexico ...new regime at the Lobos ...

Do You Know Who This Is?

Image
Well, do you? He's the guy who says the economy is out of the recession...yup, it's Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. .. It's good news, but it's what I've been saying for some time...the problem is that the numbers on the out of work people remains high, the housing market prices are still low, the car numbers are not flattering...but, just follow the stock market and the numbers are there...if you have the $... INVEST NOW !...I told you... So I'm back to baking my own bread ...after countless attempts at buying a nice loaf of it, I make a much better product and I know what's in it...my favorite is the raisin walnut.... Have you heard of Acorn ? Not sure what to think...It appears to be a gov't. program that has a lot of problems with it...AND, the republicans are going crazy on it... I'm afraid to say this...but racism is going to be an ongoing issue throughout the Prez O term (s)... Speaking of that, are you okay with the limit of a max...

No Panic

Image
For you non football types...turn away for the 1st chapter...the Chargers , behind the stellar play of QB Philip Rivers , marched down the field and scored the game winning TD in the last minute at Oakland ...there were some glaring needs by the Bolts ...the D line was manhandled early, the D in general looked rusty... LT is definitely on the down slide...his time is up... ANYWAY ...put Sproles in more at TB...better game plan...it's not as good as I thought, but not that bad...1st game a win...it's a long, brutal season... 1-0 Chapter 2...the Yale tragedy...a young gal killed at College and there is mass hysteria...appears that the same type of thing happened at the school 11 years ago...stay tuned for new news there... Chapter 3...I watched a movie last night...for you who think Mr. Angelina Jolie ( Brad Pitt ), can't act...you must see " Kalifornia "...he is splendid and the show was something I never heard of... Chapter 4... Dan Brown 's latest is out ...

Awards

Image
So I am not a fan of " awards " that are given to actors or musicians that are voted on by a select few...in general, lobbyists infiltrate all avenues of money making people... Oscars, Emmys, VMAs, CMAs , etc... so when someone wins an award I wonder just who was behind the scene to help get that achievement accomplished...hey, I know that's cynical, but it is what it is...anyway, I do like the show that they produce...I am more interested in how the people look, act, and or sing...and, it is a barometer of how some think...it's like the Electoral College that puts the Prez in power...originally set up because the legislature types didn't trust the public... Anyway...last night at the VMA's (or something like that) 19 year old Taylor Swift won for best female performer in a video...as she was giving her acceptance, up popped Kanye West , grabbed the mic from her hands and boasted that Beyonce should have won...just a total embarrassment for all involved, es...

There was once a feller

Image
So you like your MLB history? There was once this feller named Steve Blass ...a journeyman pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. ..hey, we're talking 67 years young and last pitched in the bigs back in '74...as do a lot of former ballplayers, they develop other interests rather early in life due to having to get out of baseball at such an early age...oops, I can't really tell you what that is...but here is the real deal... Pitt hosts an alumni golf tourney every year, to honor and keep the camaraderie tight for the old Pirate players...seems that Steve had a visit with one other very famous Pirate fan, none other than Arnold Palmer ...whether or not, that had an impact... Mr. Blass went out and did what is like 67 million to one...he had 2 holes in one in the same round !!! Steve , you were spot on... My college pix...again 4-1... UCLA whupping on the Vols was my only miss... USC in a heart stopper over OSU ... OSU (Beavs) in a nail biter over UNLV (as I warned you...
