It's Only Make Believe

It was date nite here at the home...well, our home...and the day itself was a bit fun...as the Horse went golfing...right, against Dr's orders...but, you all know me by now...and Boss went in for a hair appointment...her 3 hours of the day...she deserves it, like I have anything to say about it...the results were dramatic and beautiful...of course...and my golf you ask?...not one shank...thank you...

We were going down to the Gaslamp for a dinner at a new one for us...'Lumi's'...a Japanese style restaurant on top of one of the buildings there...so weird, as it was directly across from our 1st residence in the city (town?)...shoot, I think about the same level, too....the 6th floor...I digress...so, the Horse puts on long pants...this is not a norm, kids...well, Levi's, as I ditched my genuine Kirklands...which were too big...I digress again...and set the mood with some music from Pandora...

The Conway Twitty Radio station...for youse who has that service (Pandora), it is great...it played a lot of that era of country songs...by him, George Jones, Keith Whitley, Mel McDaniel...and on and on...it was so rad to hear those tunes again...ah, well, has nothing to do with Japanese songs...which I know of but one...'Sukiyaki'...a hit of the '62 times...'It's Only Make Believe' is one of Twitty's best...

Harold Lloyd Jenkins...that is Conway's real name...he founded his stage name looking at a map...true dat...saw Conway, Arkansas and Twitty, Texas...and let it be...Conway Twitty...the song I mentioned in my title, was a B side to one of his first attempts at a hit...on a 45...you remember those, don't you?...he then popped out some real gooduns...'Danny Boy', 'Lonely Blue Boy', 'Hello Darlin', and a duet with the infamous Loretta Lynn 'Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man'...

Listen, we saw him in concert like many moons ago...in Portland, Oregon...at a fair...70's...he was great...

Shoot, I didn't mean to take you on a historical journey, but I did...kept on a writing...but, I think what may have got me going...was an ad for some Cowboy Krocs...this must be a spoof, right?...bad enough that people wear the originals, but now in boot form?...c'mon...

Back to 'Lumis'...it was a treat...and we had stuff, that I would never have ever eaten before...spices like were right on...uncooked fish?...yea, the Horse had it...the place was slammed...all open air, but covered...terrific ambience...and one more thing. we were certainly the elders there...well, I did see an older gentleman (yup, appears much older than moi) with a 20 year old...in Diego?...ha ha...

The NBA playoff bracket is set...these are best of 7, I think...yes, I should know...as the Heat beat the Bulls, and the TWolves regrouped and whupped the Thunder...for the last spots in...

The Friars be stinking up the home park...losing twice now...last eve an 11-2 embarrassment...5 more days til Jr saves this ship...

By now you have heard the flap about the Bud Light commercial...about the company using a transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney in it...and the conservatives went crazy and were boycotting the beer...not so fast says, donny jr...the company is a big contributor to his daddy...stop the boycott...ah, well, now THE HORSE is boycotting Bud Light...

The Leak

I didn't do any talking about 'The Leak'...that was reported for the past week...as it seems to me, that there are constant 'Leaks' in every part of the government...starting with SCOTUS...thus, it just wasn't that big a deal...apparently it is...as the US Infantry, shoot I don't know who they were...armored people...there you go...stormed his house and arrested the 21 year old...no name...he is an Air Force National Guardsman...who allegedly leaked dozens of highly classified documents...ie, national security secrets, that included surveillance of the US on Russia...21, and has access to these?...hmmm...

For a trip back into time...we watched the 'Boston Bombers' series on Netflix...real life documentary that was and is riveting...you recall, the bombing of the finish line at the Boston Marathon...the tragedy and then the hunt...truly amazing police, FBI, and Boston people work to catch the killers...it's a 3 parter and we couldn't stop...I still can't figure out why they did it...

These awards thingers...the ACM's...Academy of Country Music...did some more mysterious things...like not having Carrie as one of the nominees for best country gal...but had her in the list for best entertainer...and then, has Miranda in like 5 nominations...doesn't the academy LISTEN to the music?...ha ha...and where is Jelly Roll?...

Music...I just listened to two songs from Kelly Clarkson's new album...they are on the web net...and are outstanding!...you know, I can't recall really looking forward to a vinyl like this one...for some time...she can sang, kids...check it out...

Final NBA play in games this eve...Bulls at Heat, and Thunder (Soopersonics) at TWolves...who ya got?...JCC...sorry, you die hard pro hoop fans...

As I led with the lack of fanfare for trump yesterday...he did testify for 7 hours, reportedly, in Manhattan...in a court room...I think...this time about his association with the $250 million buck civil lawsuit brought against him by NY AG James...ah, it wasn't in a court, but at the AG's office...geez, I bet that was a fun sit down...

Think that we don't need Jr?...Friars baseball...wallowing about in .500 land...this is what he did last nite for the AAA Padre affiliate...awaiting his re-appearance back into the Bigs on the 20th...

No Fanfare

Well how do you like that?...trump is back in NY for another court session...and this time, NO FANFARE!...no vid of his Airplane landing...no motorcade viewing by a helicopter...ah, like it's getting old business, donny...did you know he actually said that when he was last in the Manhattan case,  that people were CRYING as he was led into court...workers, police,  security, FBI, attorneys, bailiffs, the judge...nobody was crying, dude...NOBODY...and trump, might as well stay there for a bit, to face off the rape case against you...soon...Love New York...

American Idol...you know my (our) passion for the show...but, the judges, Luke, Katy, and Lionel, were hearing things we didn't...apparently...putting some in the top 24, and dropping others out...I would say at least 6 were different than what we thought...perhaps, personality and personal tragedies wages in on the selection by them...of course, once the whole thing gets to the public, who knows...as they NEVER give the actual voting numbers...'trust us'...I will say the Hawaii kid brought tears to the Horse's eyes...

NBA play in playoffs...OK, kind of cool...as the #9 and #10 squared off for the rights to play on...and both 10’s won...interesting...on the road...so much for home court advantage...at least this time...

The Friars lost the rubber match to the Mets...ah, Blake Smell pitched...a doubting daughter of many around these parts...not a lot of confidence in his chucking...but then, we only scored a couple...too...blame could go all around...alas, back at home for 7...I think...debating about attending...the weather must be warmer...

CNN had an interview with the Demo Governor of Kentucky...he lost one of his best friends to the killer in the bank...yet, he couldn't pull himself to say, the AR-15's should be banned....listen kids...here is my plan...1.  Immediately ban the sale of the AR-15's. 2.  A Government subsidy of $500 to every person who turns theirs in (they can be bought NEW, for $700)...3.  One month grace period...then a fine of $50,000 and or 1 year in prison...if still in possession...

Our son sent a vid of their 2 kids last eve...and showing the older Cy, jumping in front of Cas...and Cas was belly laughing at what, 8 months old?!...man, it is so cute...more tears...

The WNBA Draft was a few days ago...and wowser...3 of the first 10 chosen were from South Carolina!...how did they not win the championship?...instead of the dreadful LSU...coaching?...

Yup, we took the trip to the super yesterday...OK, no big deal, right?...wait a minute buster...it WAS a big deal...the prices have taken a jump...the bad way...UP!...I noticed a couple of weeks ago, when we were perusing the 'chips' aisle...$5.79 for a bag?...'normal' size...what?...the latest is the cereal...boxes going for $6-$8 BUCKS!...are you crazy?...you have got to be kidding me...which makes me wonder what the pricing is for the larger boxes at Costco...which I will check out next time there...man, this wasn't subtle either...not like a dime more or so...c'mon Kelloggs...

The one and almost done NBA playins started last eve...the Hawks upset the Heat...and the Lake Show had a much more difficult time beating the TWolves...in OT...who were those Wuvs anyhow?...oh well, I do like the one game thinger...

The Friars got game 2 in NY...after losing the first...this is a very defiant squad...history has us losing on the road, and especially on the east coast...8 days until Jr returns...BTW, the game today is at 10:10 our time...

On a very hot spot...the Tennessee Repub Governor, has urged his Legislature to pass additional gun control measures...wonder what they might be?...how about restricting AR-15's?...

Doc Says Rest

So all you kids out there, shall get the Horse bright and early for a week...the Doc says to rest my back...take some meds...stretch and quit swinging the bloody golf club...egads, we need constant sun, then...as the swimming was grand yesterday once we got back from the appointment...I dunno, I think it is gonna hang around for a bad while...I have had neck issues for over 60 years...this one is a bit ornerier...

This killer in Louisville, at his place of work for circa 3 years...a bank...he was 23 yrs of age (25?)...a really good athlete...apparently came from a good home...his dad a college hoops coach...attacked his old workers at their morning staff meeting...with a...you know what it is...the weapon of choice by most all killers...the AR-15 assault rifle...6 dead and 8 wounded...something like that...this is what, number 145 mass killings in the USA, THIS YEAR?...perhaps, the Congressionals will finally figure it out...naw...

The NBA Playoffs begin today...with their play in games...seeds 7 and 8 play...the winner goes to the bracket as 7...the loser plays the winner of seeds 9 and 10...for the bracket seed numero 8...one game each time...this is for the east and the west...got it?...sure, JCC for most of the country...the one that catches me eye, is the Minnesota and LaLa Lakers one...as the TWolves just had an inner fight...like not words, and their C is being banished from the game...Lake Show in a walk...tonight at 7...

I have to add this...a few years back...we were at the Rady seeing them Beach Boys...sauntered on over to the souvenir stand...and lo and behold, Bruce Johnston was there...took a pix of him and Boss...and he showed me a new cap they had...I reached for me wallet and IT WAS GONE!...he took it...as he vanished away...well, last nite...on that show...he was wearing that same hat!...ha ha...one mas thing...some gal came running up, and asked 'Brian, can I have a picture with you?'...maam, I am Bruce...this pix was before he took MY HAT...

Dark Energy

Not sure why it caught me eye...but that item I talked briefly about in yesterday's blog...the Webb Telescope...was a featured piece on last eve's 'Sixty Minutes' telecast...I learned much more about it...as it has been in the making like for 25 years...and was completed and launched into space via one of our rockets...had no idea...and what it shows us is 'outta this world!'...that there are an infinite amount of galaxies...when we look into the sky, on a perfect nite...we see stars...lots of 'em...this Webb Telescope is a tip of what's really going on...and it is so interesting and scary, too...the scientists call it 'DARK ENERGY'...which means, they don't really know what all there is...OUT THERE!...we on earth, are just a minuscule of what exists...as part of our galaxy, there are others...like I said prior, an infinite amount of them...which brings me back to this...there are other humans somewhere out there, too...maybe...probably...

Come to think of it, I have lots of dark energy...

There is nothing like the Masters...as the best emerge...if the weather is good...and it was on Sunday...Jon Rahm won by 4 and deservedly is the champ...but, here came the thoroughbreds, Lefty and Jordan, closing in fast...for 2nd and 4th...the surprise was Lefty Mickelson, who has been not playing well...he knows Augusta...and that made 2 of the top 3, LIV blokes...as Brooks Koepka held on for a tie with Lefty...it was a grand show, of course...

The Friars won 3 of 4 in Atlanta...man, the last day was a 10-2 whupping of the 'Braves'...the word, emerging, is the best way to talk about that series...now on to NY, to face the oh so tuff Mets...one game at a time...we have Yu going and they have Scherzer on the mound...wowser, could be a beaut...
