The Weekend

Image
Morning, kids ...how was your Friday?...well, this earth had a lot of happenings...from the good to the awful...sorry to say, like most any other day...for you, who lived in the 1950's...one probably yearns for that era again...things were so much slower...I digress... To keep on with The Open in Scotland... the good ... Lefty is leading after the 2nd round...the field is closing on him...but still...the weather was very similar to the winters in my old state of Orygun...rainy and blustery...golf?...something you just didn't do in it...but over yonder, you play on...looked absolutely miserable...one of the blokes I usually pick in the Majors...who never wins... Henrik Stenson , made a charge and is paired with Mickelson today...BTW, the glamour boys, are way back...like Horse said would happen... 5 stars for the off track over at Striders ...gone was the $15 dollar cover charge...what?...of course, it could have been that the place was packed ...a lot of dudes who chos...

Lefty

Something crazy good happening over in Scotland...in The Open ... Phil Mickelson ...alias LEFTY ...who is actually a righty...is weathering the rain and the rest of the field... 10 under at the midpoint ...as the 2nd half of the blokes are just now teeing it up...he should be at or near the lead...which, my good friends, is a pleasant surprise...not to him, I suppose...as he is the extreme optimist... On the other hand...horrific scene in Nice, France ...allegedly another terrorist move...using a truck on a mile long killing spree. ..the numbers are yet again staggering... 84 dead ...lord, there are too many cowards on this earth...that find a way to kill... what can we do?... And this piece of a nugget ...70 miles north of Seattle...in Skaggit County... a teriyaki restaurant owner has asked the police there... to QUIT eating at his establishment ...what?...the customers don't like them being there, the cops were told...hmmm... refusing of service? ...of course, the web net i...

The Open

Image
Morning kids...I'm talking The Open ...like over there>>>>>.... at Royal Troon ...where it all started...no better story line than the opening player to get the bloody thing a going... Colin Montgomerie ...the mid 50 year old Scot ...began with a pot bunker induced double...then...get this... shot an even par round...to beat the two youngins he was with ... blimey! ...way cool...it started our time last night at around 10:30 pm...totally different type of golf than around the states... "Monty" , as he has been affectionately called... has a checkered past here in the US of A ...when he came over here to play in our T's, he would halt his play...and do stare downs of the patrons...who were acting like unruly bastards...which, as you can guess, didn't go over too well...and had been a very unloved visitor ... My pick? ...shoot, I have been terrible at this prognosticating thinger this year...but, have to go with Dustin Johnson , right?... terrifi...

Deflategate

Image
Didn't we think that this was over...so over... Deflategate ...the matter of the New England Patriot's QB ...the elitist of all the guys in that position...right?... Terrific Tom Brady ...the NFL allegedly caught him in the awkward spot of deflating the football he used a couple of years back...shoot, it may have been going on for some time...I dunno... Anyway, Brady found a way to get it delayed...like in a real court ...unlike a mandate, er ruling coming from the NFL's League Office...and...I, like many...thought it was a done deal...not so fast my good friends...the NFL didn't let it just go away...got another court to uphold their ruling...and voila!... Brady is back to being suspended for the 1st 4 games of THIS season ...hmmm... Guess what?...sure... Tom Terrific will go back to court ...you know he will...you really think that he is going to miss a game?...Horse doubts it big time... The MLB All Star Game review ...well, it was fun...unfortunately, we didn...

The Game

Image
Morning kids...it's the All Star game! ...we have two on the squad (actually 3)...for the National League...duh... Wil Myers and Drew Pomeranz ...the 3rd is the traded closer, Fernando Rodney ...now of the Fish...the GQ is alive and robust...we were out last night and I've never seen so many different jerseys all over the place...way, way cool... The Home Run Derby was held last night...where the Fish's slugger, Giancarlo Stanton, was the clear winner...I taped it and watched portions later on...well, later...hmmm...as my handicapper buddy, Andy, texted me... "those balls were juiced!" ...have to agree...as there were tape measure shots that were much further than any that we have seen in the 10 years since we've been here...hmmm...really?...BTW, Wil got beat in the 1st round, 11-10... The Game ...well now...there is a parade that goes right by our condo at noon ...to kick the day off...of course, we'll be watching...then head on over to the ball ...

Morning Brew

Image
Hey ya"ll... the top of the morning to ya ...the All Star Week is in full motion...the weather is grand...the bars are open...what else can you want?...I have a full pot of the Italian Roast in the carafe...the home run dudes are making their way here to SoCal...for the derby this afternoon...it's all good... Not so good, was the climax to the US Open for the Ladies , yesterday...that amateur group, our USGA...mucked it up again ...what?...eeks, seems similar to the guys...just a month ago...er, was it less than that?...anyway... terrific finish to the event by the vets ... Anna Nordqvist and Brittany Lang ...ended up tied in regulation...and off they went to a 3 hole playoff...aggregate score ...er, you count 'em all... In OT, the score was tied as the gals were coming down the 3rd and last hole...when it was leaked that when Nordqvist hit her ball out of a fairway bunker on hole no. 2, a video of it showed that her iron caused some sand to move ...thus, ground...

All Star Switcheroos

Image
Geez, is that even a word?... switcheroos? ...there are two All Star games that have the most prestigious qualities to them...in the NBA and MLB...fuggit about the NFL...it's after the season...these are in the middle, sort of...however...there is an alarming number of replacements in the game...talking beisbol, kids... Outside of the unforeseen injuries, the timing of when the All Star pitchers pitch ...is paramount to whether these chuckers can actually play in the game...thus, a gaggle of players are shelved...take the case of the elite dude, the Giant's P Madison Bumgarner. ..MadBum...he is throwing too close to the classic, thus, he is out... Hmmm...cuz of the importance of winning this bloody game, I think that the Giants may be making a mistake ...the winning league gets the home field advantage for the World Series...crazy as that is...it's probably more important to win this, than any single regular season fray...use MadBum for 3 innings in the AS game, know...
