And the rains came...

Is that grammatically correct? A full week of the wet stuff here it is said. The Blazers have sunk into a bad 3 game loss streak. They have shown an extreme lack of composure at the end of games. Part of it is lack of preparation sorry to say. It's a long season but the losses are curable. However, to lose to a bad Clippers team, at home is inexcusable. The Heisman Trophy is out today and it is down to 3 QB's. I am proud to say one of them is a Native American out of Oklahoma. Sam Bradford has an equal chance for the crown, that any of the three could win and be deserved. The Toreros play the Dux today at the Rose in PDX. Too bad they are visiting with so many injuries as they won't put up much a fight against the Orygun team. It could have been a great match. I should know better but...looking at the Vegas odds on the NFL I find curious that the Bolts are favored over the home team Chiefs by 5, that the inner fighting Cowboys are favored over the Giants, that the point lin...

Christmas in the Quarter

So we got in the mood and went to see the 4 Christmases. Kinda cool. Not the best movie but will definitely get you thinking about the season and how family affects us all. There is a Christmas Doggie Parade on Sunday here in the Quarter (forever Q in my blog). And yes, Sammi will be strutting her stuff! We just had the Christmas party for the Prudential last night and I was the escort that everyone wanted to know about. Just kidding about that. Watched the Blazers on the tube last night versus the Jazz. Remember a bit back I listed some of the quality coaches in the NBA? I left out Jerry Sloan and he is deserved for sure. He chewed up PDX and spit them out. Portland is still on the outside looking in. Got to get more out of the middle and figure out how to handle double teams. SDS listed their top 3 candidates for the football job. The group consists of Dennis Franchione(Texas A&M), DeWayne Walker (UCLA), and Brady Hoke (Ball State). Gotta think Franchione will be the o...

Sunny Thursday

The City's hoops teams went down to defeat yesterday. SDS to a pretty good Arizona team, and the USD group to an average New Mexico squad...USD is missing their 1,2, and 3 starters so you can imagine how much fun they are to watch. The end of the MLB talks in Vegas is today and TKT hasn't rid himself of Stud Peavy yet. There is a lot of talk about keeping Hoffman, mostly 'cuz nobody else wants him and maybe they can get him for cheap. So what? Kevin McHale fired his coach, then took over the job himself at Minnesota, then proceeded to 'coach' his way into allowing Carmelo Anthony 33 points in ONE QUARTER! That's not the team but one guy! Well done 'Coach' McHale! The Bolts are at KC for a must win. Then they have to have a Bronco loss later in the day. Not a rosy playoff picture. Pretty much they earned this one. Well this has been a sarcastic piece, huh...

NBA Coaching

Having to coach in the NBA is one difficult thing. Maybe easier now than 20 years ago, but...When the players earn much more than you do there is a underlying feeling that they may know more than you do. Anyway, the Blazers last night couldn't hold onto an 8 point lead in the last 1 and 1/2 minutes. Orlando got away with trapping Brandon Roy once he got over 1/2 court and PDX had no answer for it. They repeatedly either took bad shots or turned it over. Even after a timeout...!!! Make the adjustments and be prepared for it, cuz EVERYONE is going to try the same thing now. One of my big pet peeves in the NBA circus is getting the ball at 1/2 court instead of from the baseline after a timeout in the last 2 minutes. This is entertainment not basketball. Orlando lucked out again and got off a 3 pointer at the buzzer and hit it off the glass. Luck bag! Take a look at the demise of the Pistons after getting AI for Chauncey. Practice? TKT has said that Stud Jake will be gone by...

Does this make sense?

So TKT goes to Vegas and continues to shop Stud Peavy and makes the statement that if Jake goes then he can resign Hoffman. There is no more incredible garbage in the world than that move. Oh well, at least he doesn't run Wall Street. I don't know if it is a San Diego curse or what but USD's hoop team is besieged with injuries and the team is folding like a newspaper. Which brings me to the Tribune conglomerate out of LA that is filing bankruptcy. We are talking the LA Times, WGN, the Cubs, the Orlando Sentinel, amongst others. Money is getting tighter and tighter. The LPGA is dropping 3 paid tourneys next year. When does it get to the NBA? One of the most beautiful sights in the world are Christmas decorations in downtown condos in San Diego. To have so many lights in such a compact area is so cool. It's hard to believe but there have been a rash of firings of head coaches in the NBA already in a season that is only 20 games young. The latest is at Minnesota where Kevi...

Mathematically alive

The Broncos win and now they are 3 up with 3 to go. I think in golfing terms this is a stymie. As expected the Florida/Oklahoma game is for the championship. I have been touting the Sooners most of the season, but...they are 0 fer 4 in their last 4 bowl games. They should be favored, but...we'll wait to make a prediction on this 'til later. The Dux come to SD and the Beavs go to the Sun Bowl. Penthouse to the outhouse... Michelle Wie did get her card and now can start her real journey without mysterious invites. There is an article in the trib about Turrible Kevin Towers (forever TKT in my blog) and what a genius he is. Makes me want to gag. Go online and get a whiff of this smelly article. If you look at all the bowl games you see why the D1 doesn't want to go to a playoff situation. It makes their economy stay alive... Notre Dame got a bid at 6-6 to go to Hawaii and play the home team. Weis is a beauty. Off to play golf in the mild 65* weather...

Sunday showers

Supposed to shower here today... Yes, Oklahoma and Florida have moved on to their expected match up for the national title with their wins over Missouri and Alabama...as I predicted yesterday. Stay with me on this...Oklahoma is the best team in the land. I've said this for some time and I don't even think it is close. Probably the 2nd best team doesn't get the chance to prove they are deserving and that is Texas. I see it as: The CH poll...1. Oklahoma 2. Texas 3. Florida 4. USC and this is another great year for a playoff. It looks like the Dux are in the Holiday Bowl and I'm getting tix. Gahr it's your move to follow up on it. Where are the Beavs going? Let's all work real hard on wishing for a Broncos loss today... The winter baseball mtgs. start on Monday in Vegas and turrible K Towers is going there with the idea of moving our stud Jake Peavy. Latest rumor is he covets the Cub's prospect...a 1st baseman! Let's see our best player is a 1st baseman...a...
