When a No No is a Good Thing

Image
For all of youse out there in Horse land, you must giveth me slack for rooting for my team ...usually, the lengths of that, are a little stretchy... when I say it is great, it probably is good....when I say fair, it is perhaps bad...when it is terrible, it could be horrific ...but, this time...yessirre Bob...in this instance, it is fantastic! ...on the road again, well, the 1st time this season... the mighty Padres ... Pitcher Joe Musgrove , not only a newbie to the organization, but an El Cajon product... threw a no hit no run game!!! ...in Texas, against them Rangers... FIRST TIME EVER in the San Diego Padre HISTORY! ...was texting back and forth with my beisbol expert, always a coach, and amigo from the homeland, Linds Martin...hey was aware of what was going on...a life long Yankee lurver, he also is a baseball purist... Anyhoo, I leaped off my couch as the final putout was made...the condo association was upset at the sound I made...it was GRAND!...we won, we got the NoNo, and w...

Not So Green

Image
Ah, GREEN with envy? ...even the best greenskeepers throughout the land, were smiling just a tad bit yesterday...you see, the hallowed grounds of Augusta...where the Masters is being played...the owners have the fairways sprayed GREEN on them, to make the course even more beautiful...one place they can't, is on the greens ...and thru me eyes and ALL the greenskeepers throughout the land, were gawking at the brown that is showing on those putting surfaces ... BLASPHEMY! ...even this place can show signs of heat...I think that this is the first time I have seen them like this...FIRST, in like 50+ years of me viewing this T...so, they are hard, and the ball bounces and rolls off...not sticks... this, my good friends, is a different Masters than we have seen...before... Justin Rose was in a world all by himself in the 1st round ...where everyone else was struggling to get under par, he was masterfully at -7 ...well now, you don't WIN in the opening 18, but you can LOSE in it.....

Throwback Thursday

Image
No better example of golf in the past...on this Throwback Thursday ...the driver of choice was made out of persimmon wood ...not the metal ones used now...with so much technology and alterations, that it makes the game much different than when I started...back in the 50's... I would polish the driver, and keep it dry...and cherish it, no kidding...even tho I was a full fledged hack...the pride one had in their persimmon wood was immense...and I was like everyone else in this fashion... I bring this up, as THE PGA tourney of tourneys starts today...actually, as I write... The Masters ... it is the golfers super bowl ...this is the one that they all want to win...and the purists just shake their collective heads (ah, how many do they have?)...as the golf courses have been overrun by the new fangled drivers, that 'shorten' the courses...and this one, too... Many are calling for a 'deadened' golf ball , like they are doing to pro baseball this season...not needed, jus...

Just Another Day at the Park

Image
The opening day for me , well, my first glimpse at this season's mighty Padres ...got invited to go, via a season ticket holder...and the Dude's wife unable to...thus, my luck...as we trapzed on over to the old ball yard, er Petco Park. ..some 10 blocks away....sounds long, but, it's not...stopped at a watering hole, just to refresh our system before getting into the $10 a beer range , inside... It takes an app to do everything now ...the tix?...on an app...the food?...order via an app...the beer, er refreshments?...via an app...what if you don't own a smart (?) phone I ponder... Anyhoo, we are in the upper level of the old Metal Supply building ...take a person operated elevator up...and saunter over to the 'seating'...must admit, it is a wide open space...which did include it's own food and beverage station...ah, closed, via the pandemic...and then, get this...the usher told our season tix holder... 'ah, your table is the one in the back' ...with N...

Beware of the Bear

Image
The relentless pressure of the Baylor Bears gents hoop team... offensively and defensively ...led them to their first championship ...over the heartland's fav, the Gonzaga Bulldogs ...maybe, I should say the west coast's fav...both of these teams, are from isolated college towns... Waco, Texas, and Spokane, Washington ...just the facts, ma'am... Not often that the Horse is spot on ...this time a resounding YES!... too much athleticism, with Baylor. ..I was reading commentary, about the idear that the Zags were tired...after their OT win over UCLA...perhaps...but, I have watched the Bears throughout the Big Dance, and they are massively quick...they play TERRIFIC D , and have unbelievable lightning quick hands ...and they can shoot... Surprised? ...nope...I had them by 10+...hey, Gonzaga had a wonderful season ...just met their match...as everyone else did in this T... You just know when something ain't right ...the start of the beisbol season for the star SS of the m...

Champ Game

Image
Can it be as thrilling as the Ladies Big Dance? ... Stanford squashed the 3 pt attempt by Arizona , for their crown...what will happen this eve, with the 2 best left...and the 2 best going in ... Gonzaga and Baylor ...apparently...the sample size of games played, made it so bewildering to figure out...many that were canceled due to the Covid... in the gents Big Dance ... Baylor has the superior athletes ...sorry, Spokane but that is a truth as the Horse sees it...does that mean they will win?...certainly not...it's just that no lead is safe... the Zags , coming off a historic battle with the Bruins of UCLA, will try to out-finesse you, er, the Bears ...it truly is a contrast of styles, and whomever dominates, will get the W... I am horrific at prognosticating ...in Vegas they add the point spread thinger, and that usually does me in...here goes... Baylor will be your Natty Champ ...don't hate me, PNW...I really want to be wrong... It's been 4 years since Jordan Spieth ha...

So Late

Image
We were traveling back home , so I didn't write until now... please accept my apologies ...we were taken from our normal route on the 405, up to the 5...and then down the highway to SD...they just blocked the entry to the 405, from the 101...have no idear why... Got back in time to watch some sports... the gals Big Dance , with yet another fun game...as Stanford eked out the championship over fellow Pac 12er Arizona...and, in the PGA, Jordan Spieth finally got another win...been a good long while...is he back?...right before the Masters?... The mighty Padres finally got beat...there goes the undefeated season, as they (we) started 3-0, for the first time since 1984...we only scored 1 run, which is surprising, but what the heck, there are like 150+ to go...yup, I have tix for Tuesday... Tonight is Ido l ...which I do dig...starts at 8...you into it?... As we passed thru the parks harboring the bay , we could not help but notice the mass amounts of cars parked there, and the numbers...
