A Late Entry

Was on the road from Indio this morning, so sorry for the late post...we ventured the 'other' way...out of the desert...thru Borrego Springs...Boss wanted so dearly to see the desert blooming of the wild flowers...so be it...add 2+ hours to to the drive home...and by way of Julian, too...where there was still snow on the ground!...yikes...

My oh my, still waiting on a Friar win...perhaps, today...as the guys who were carrying the team in the Cactus League, are FINALLY in the lineup...wake up Mgr, and smell what got you going...never can figure that crap out...fingers crossed...

In an hour the Aztecs play game 1 of the Final 4...vs Florida Atl...as I have repeatedly said...SDSU has yet to play their best...today?...like above, fingers crossed...

With all the Mayor promising about moving out the homeless...on our way in to town (city?), they were still camped out...do what you say you are gonna do, Mr Mayor...otherwise, shut your mouth, and let's get one in that can carry out their promises...

Gosh, we had a splendid time with them Gahrs in Indio...terrific hosts...and the trip to the casino was an absolute blast!...finished it off watching them gals...as Iowa did the impossible...so, I thought...beat South Carolina...what a season for that one Iowa gal...a can't miss WNBA star...

This is the ornery group that met up with us at the Casino...the Davidsons, the Morrises...and the fab 4...

Mother Nature Rules

Morning all!  As we weathered a brutal drive from Diego to Indio...the rains were not our friends, people...the semis splashing like we were traversing in the great PNW...not until we saw the weather vanes  whirling about, did the water from the sky, cease...man, that sounds like it was written for an English class...Mother Nature  Rules!...if that wasn’t enough, the winds...my Gawd, the winds!...doesn’t she know we are in SoCal?....I think Snooki May have dated her in his way younger days...perhaps he can reconnect, and stop the insanity...

It’s worth the hazards, tho...we laid out, hit the hot tub, and relaxed in the lazy river...even tho the skies were spotty...being so greatful for our hosts, the Gahr’s...grateful...then, they COOKED for us...we ARE heathens...

Back in SD, the rains persist...so opening day for the Friars, has been delayed til 6:40...when it WILL be dry...GO PADRES!

Let’s just say this...SDSU has yet to play their best...and are in the Final 4, anyhoo...maybe, just maybe...will tell ya, up to now, UConn has been the superior team of the four left...

Diego has never been so wild about town...and to couple, the Mayor Gloria, is moving the homeless out!...win win win...

This am the news had 2 military copters crashing into one another in Kentucky...’several’ casualties....which reminds me...we stopped at a rest area in the drive yesterday...stood in line behind all the Army...they were from North Carolina...?...what?…why here?…Breaking…9 dead from the Black Hawk crash!

One more...the school that had the murders...the report is the teachers did what they were trained to do...still, lost 6...still, what more needs to happen, Congressional Republicans....?...

Where and when will number 131 mass murder occur?...

Today, we swim?…we go to the PGA Super Store...we dine in Palm Springs...and go to their infamous Street Fair...sound groovy?…

This Final 4 business of the collegiate hoops...I did say 'Business', right?...it comes at a cost...something most don't know about, or choose to look the other way...some hoop schools do NOT have a football team, too...why?...the COST $$$!...for example, Gonzaga...where they can offer up to 13 scholarships...in basketball...if they had a football team, the number would be around 113!...to be competitive...and that's just the two main guy's sports...these are incentives to lure the best athletes they can, to 'their' school...free tuition, board, room, and books (if needed)...I laugh at the transfer portal nowadays...as the athletes can move about freely, from one school to another...well, the colleges and universities, have to be very creative in their usage of the scholarships...one can just imagine there are shenanigans going on, 'under the table' so to speak...

Just gander at the makeup of the 4 teams left in the guys hoops...many are transfers...we cheer, for the school, not so much for the makeup of the team...shoot, the colleges are worse than the pros now, for player stability...who are these dudes?...oh well, we are winning, and that's the main thing...I guess...

I ventured out of the cost factor...imagine the hoops AND football schools...they survive not only by the scholarships thang, but by ALUMNI donations...yup, think Oregon is not the athletic school it is without, Phil Knight..ah, Mr Nike!...there are blokes like that all over the map...the big and talented teams, have HUGE donations coming in from people and BUSINESSES as strong as Knight...don't kid yourself...think that Alabama and Ohio St don't have humongous donations coming in?...takes a lot of cash to be fan worthy...

Think that only happens in college?...try your local high school teams...is there a school that miraculously comes up with star players, that just happen to transfer there?...sure...

OK, made my point...

The 130th mass murder...and the Republicans are trying the silence gig in Congress...stay quiet, and in time, this will go away...why oh why, the banning of the assault rifle is so dear to them?...just that one vehicle of slaughter...have they NO SHAME!..it is beyond me...

The killer in Nashville...the police team that went in to handle that situation...'Let's Go!'...brought chills to my skin...they have been trained to deal with this...bypassing all those children huddling up in fear of getting blown to bits...you REPUBLICAN Congressionals, you are the worst of all!...did YOU watch the film from the cameras?...

So I bought this genuine Maui wood watch in ah, Maui...years back...took in to my fav watch dude...to change up the battery...he informed me that...the watch was actually made by a Canadian company...via China...well, is the wood Maui?...what you think?...did I get hornswoggled?...

Heaven Help Us

I think I heard this right, the 129th MASS shooting THIS YEAR in the USA!...this time (again) in a school...more and more unimaginable deaths of the kids and people we live for...as much preparation and defense planned for such a thing...there is none if the killer shoots out the door...to gain entry to do the assassinations...this was a smaller grade school in Nashville...6 more dead...the numbers are staggering, nationwide...what was used?...an assault rifle...again...

I can think back when I taught...we had things we would do, but the severity was not like this...now, it's way too common to fathom...it's almost like one must EXPECT it to happen to your school...some place...any place...shielding all, in some fashion...exit routes...anticipatory police ready to react...train train train...

Let's start with the assault rifle...the USA had a ban on them for awhile...it's time ran out...and here we are again...again...and again...Congress, it is UP TO YOU!...do what you were elected to do...serve the people who put you where you are...and PROTECT!...it shouldn't be a party dominated talk...put down the lines of barter, and do the right thing...yes, I am appalled at what they don't do...if they throw out 'our thoughts and prayers' one more time, without banning the assault rifle, then...we need better people in those positions...

DO THE RIGHT THING!

The Ladies Final 4 is set...as the Horse has predicted all along...South Carolina is the clear best in the colleges this season...they play Iowa, and in the other game...the LSU Tigers take on Virginia Tech...where is Stanford?...

Got home from a vigorous day of work (golf) and Lordy, Boss made some peanut butter cookies, some scones, polished the floor, and then had the audacity, to NOT make my sandwich for lunch...

Looks like rain for Opening Day...well, the Pads, I think have a tarp...perhaps, the rains will be gone by game time...Thursday...we will be in the desert...sun?...

Well, it is a weird thing...we will be gone, when I normally do the bills...so, damn it all...today wins out...

The Final 4

For some reason, I kept thinking that the matchup between Creighton and Florida Atlantic would be an interesting one...as both have huge centers...that have a way of dominating, like in olden times of the hoop game...who would be the eventual winning post guy?...alas, that is not going to occur...as the unheralded Aztecs of San Diego St prevailed over Creighton...in yet another nail biter...you tell me defense doesn't win...

Off to the Final 4 goes the Aztecs!...couple that with Sundays other game...an equally tense battle...Miami beat the Longhorns of Texas...so, it is set...in Houston...SDSU vs FAU, and Miami vs UConn...who had these teams in their bracket?...not moi...

I get tickled when people, fans, pundits, bloggers, coaches, armchairs coaches, take aim at referee's calls...good lord, just try to get into a mind of an official...man, I have tried that for years...decades...what should be called and what shouldn't...it's all split second reactions...most have 'it'...some don't....

The mood about the city (town?) is downright electric....not only does SDSU play this upcoming weekend in the Final 4, but the much ballyhooed Friars have Opening Day this Thursday!...and yup, we are going to be outta town...(city?)...for youse unaware, we live in San Diego...

Surprise, too in the Match Play T in Austin...both Scotty Scheffler and Rory McIlroy got eliminated in the semis...as Sam Burns put the step on the petrol and throttled Cam Young 6 and 5...up by 6 holes with 5 to go...to win it...more time on the tele was for the runner-up match, as Rory won that...2 weeks to the greatest in golf, The Masters...

I reckon that is my sports report...

The NY Grand Jury, that is centering on the trump case with Stormy...starts up today again...will he or won't he be indicted?...arrested?...in his blabbing in Waco, he thinks not...now...trump...we shall see...

Riots in France and Israel...for diff reasons...leadership just has to get the pulse of the people...on one hand yes, and then when leadership goes astray, like trump, it can cause insurrection that is unfounded and deadly...

For a massive reality check of 1965 in Alabama...a must see film carried on MSNBC...'Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power'...sounds daunting...it is the story of the suppressed Black People, 80% of the county, which had no rights to vote...you can guess the rest...it is riveting...

BTW, has anyone seen, nor heard,  Mark Meadows OR Rudy Guliani lately?...I mean, in a good long time?...the cats are in hiding?...

The south has been hit with deadly tornadoes...the weather peops are saying there could be more today...tragic...there is no counter to them...hiding...hopefully in a shelter...can you even imagine...

There is rage in Congress over TikTok...listen, kids I don't know what this is...I see stuff on it, but does it cost?...what does it allow you to do?...or see?...man, I can barely keep up with what I have...

Lazy Saturday

It was one of those great, lazy Saturdays...here in SoCal...ah, south SoCal...sun, brightly shining...light winds...and you could feel the pulse of the city (town?)...as we embarked on a tram ride to Old Town for an afternoon lunch, dinner, whatever that is called...the convenience of it, hopping on the tram...then, sauntering about, with many others doing the same...Old Town...found a grand place to eat...at the bar...no line, no waiting...it was terrific...did some shopping, and hopped back on the tram...back in the Marina in minutes...way way cool...

Did you watch the Kansas St/Fla Atlantic game?...BTW, I did not know they even had a school...FAU...nestled in Boca Raton...with satellite sites in 5 cities...31,000 attend the school...anyhoo...Florida Atl won it in a thriller...KSU has all transfers on their squad, and a new coach...weird...and a dynamite little 5'8" PG...yet, another betting fav went down...oh by the way...the Zags lost in a stinker...losing by 28!...to UConn...bad time for a collapse...fingers crossed today for SDSU against Creighton...

We happened on a Netflix special...WACO...what went on in 1993...not that long ago, kids...3 part series...that delved into the cult that imploded...ah, was attacked by the US in that city...took 51 days for the entire siege to end...amazing story that we had little knowledge of the tragedy...heard about it, but it didn't cause much news to us in Oregon...another embattled soul, who thought he was Jesus...and found followers...people search for this...

Speaking of WACO...the 2024 campaign of trump started last eve...almost a 2 hour rant and accusation tour...in WACO...imagine sitting through that...what other 'leader' could babble on like that?...there was this guy in Germany who could...nonsensical blurts of words that try to penetrate the souls who attend these gatherings...they are out there, that is for sure...see the above paragraph...similar...

Waco, Texas...seems like an odd place for donny to start his tour...right?...the birthplace of Dr. Pepper...really...located halfway between Dallas and Austin...Native Americans were in the land, before the white eyes came...the tribes were called the 'Waco'...thus, you got it...the infamous Baylor University is located there...you might think and be right...this was a harboring point for the KKK...not a safe place for the Blacks, Indians, or anyone of color...I digress...

The Horse is declaring this 'Our Spring Break'...as we prep for our annual trip to the desert...you do recall, we were one day away from moving there, a few years back...meeting amigos and amigas, for fun and laughter...geez, my golf game is back sucking...wouldn't you just know it...oh well, it is fun to meet back up...we do NEED the heat...

4 dudes in the hunt for the Match Play champ in Austin...wowser, everything is Texas today, Horse...Scheffler, his best buddy Sam Burns, and two bombers, Rory and Cam Young...are the four...who ya got?...flip a coin...

Query...why do many say 'don't drink the water' in Mexico...but, the beer made there, ah, their water, is the foundation for some damn good...Pacifico, Dos Equis, Corona, Modelo are all dang really good...Tecate?...Indio?...c'mon...great stuff...why?...the Horse wants to know...

The nite of my first collegiate hoops game...being the good boy I was, studying at my desk...as many others were out partying...one such lad, came into my room...drunk as a skunk, and leaned on me...I threw him on the bed and he past out...I got so mad, I smashed my hand on my desk...yup, smashed one of my contacts I had there...just lying there...broke it in pieces...in those days, there were not dailies...I was out of luck...had no glasses...and you got it, played the game without contacts...couldn't see a thing and was terrible...and that's why the Horse never drinks...

Just when you thought things were going awry...word out is that Bad Bunny and K Jenner are still meeting up for dinner in LaLa Land...somehow, that eases my day...

You know, I think it is a Lazy Sunday, too...you do know it is 'Our Spring Break'...
