Breeder's Cup

Its that time of the year...where the fastest horses in the world meet...for the coveted Breeder's Cup Award...hmmm, and listen, they get treated royally...of course, the owners do, too...smirk...as do the trainers...these magnificent animals show their prowess...and, this time it happens down here in Del Mar...to say, the Horse is excited, is the understatement of the...well, you know... So...I handicapped the first 5 races today...and of the entire 5, I only eliminated 2 hosses...that could win...as I only bet winners...well, try to find the winners, and not those who may come in 2nd or 3rd...as part of the exotics...!...to say that it is very hard to do this, is right on...used to be, I would wager on trifectas...not in this world...figure if I can hit a couple of races, I should cash...yea, depends on how much I put on 'em...BTW, the 2nd BC race today has an Ireland shipper, named Marsha ...really...guess what I am betting on?... We are going with Hdcp Andy and his ...

We're Back!

With just a snappy 5 hour flight ...we are back...into the land of Diego ...I must say a welcome sight...as our dog, Sammi , was a awaiting...thx again to the Miracle Mackles for lodging the baby dawg....!...we did miss her... This trip to Maui had it's moments...the initial hit of a thousand lightning strikes , was a shock...and then, the entire island went out of power ...some said it was like 50 years since that had happened...it all changed in a couple of days...and normalcy prevailed...what a place!... It did seem that there were more people there than in the past ...however, at the airport, everything went quicker than ever...BTW, they are remodeling their ancient one ...much needed...odd, though, as the traffic was much more congested...not figuring it out...could be that there is but one road in and out of Kaanapali ... We have returned to the same place at Aston Kaanapali Shores ... 15 straight years ...they give us a deal for returning...terrific spot to squat...

Rooster

Hey kids, it’s like normal here on the Islands...80’s and gorgeous.   Last night was the dinner cruise on the Maui Princess.  The water was like glass, and the food was great.   And, the best.   We saw a whale frolicking about!   Just good stuff... Off we go to Paia for a look back to the 60’s...today...and the best fish house in the world...er, restaurant...Mama’s... So...the blog title today...We came in from s snorkeling session from Napili...and Marsh took off her cap...I slippped out of my flip flops...and then I bellowed out, “Rooster Cogburn!”... We started laughing and were dumbfounded...why?...I haven’t seen the flick in like 30 years...what prompted this?... Marsh thinks it could be age and perhaps, senility...hmmm.... Let’s just say for the past couple of days, we have been saying this, often....Rooster... Is this Russian and Trump collusion real?... Cluck cluck Aloha...

Maui Waui

Morning kids!   Aloha from Kaanapali. It’s been quite the adventure thus far.  Once we arrived, the weather took a drastic turn.  In the middle of the first night, thunder, lightning, and heavy winds. The weather people said over a thousand strikes! The power went out for the entire island!   Here we were in the penthouse.  9 floors up.  Off we went to seek out some, coffee.  We found one block in Lahaina that had power.  Hmmm.   2 hour wait for breakfast.  Imagine. We found a small place off the beaten path and feasted! By the time we returned to our hotel, the power returned.  So, we got to take the elevator back up.  Alas, no tv.  Oh my. So we read.  In our room.  As the weather was still punky.   I read 2.  One on Kareem Jabar and John Wooden, and the other on Charlie Daniels. Both great reads.  A note on Charlie.  In the 70’s I got interviewed and proclaimed I liked all music, but...

JFK

For my era, there was but one supreme President ...who was the embodiment of the type that we, like England, had in our coveted ruler... our own Camelot ... JFK ...from an aristocratical family...which had leadership throughout...ie, his dad, and brothers Bobby and Teddy ...we, the people, had great pride in him...and the office... It was a turbulent time for the country ...the fear of Communism ...the unrest of the bigotry in parts of the south...well, everywhere, really...the Mafia running amok...the exploration of space in the offing...we were going every which way...and then... the assassination ... And the aftermath ...where the TV came into our lives on a daily basis...much more than ever before...instead of 15 minute news...it was 30, and...now it's 24 hours a day...we were glued to the happenings shortly after the killing...and we were also dismayed by the 'cover up' of what just happened... Many books and the like...articles...proclaiming conspiracy th...

Game 7

You want a 'win at home' series?...you got it... the Astros and the Yankees ...so far, that is what it is...and this final game... Number 7 ...is in Houston...the game last nite was a beaut...for awhile...then the Astro bats opened up...along with a very ambiguous strike zone by the home plate umpire ...walks and hits...in a bunch was the difference...and on we go to the game that puts the winner in the World Series...you have a fav?...well, I don't... The NBA is in full swing...odd happenings with some very early injuries...leg stuff ...usually happens after the season is in mid flight...affecting quite a few of the teams... Got some get views yesterday... Golden St came back from 17 down to beat Boogie's new club, New Orleans...Pelicans?...what?...geez, he's a hard dude to ref for...could toss him almost any time...the refs don't, but I'm sure they are on the verge... Portland did another big number on the road...this time in Indy...this after b...

Reality Check

Morning, kids... a slight change in our weather ...the heat, my gawd, the heat...has subsided for a few days...nice...back to the 70* stuff...with the open windows and fresh air upon us...whew...this is what we bought into... The battle for LaLa went down last eve at Staples Center... the Clip Joint and the Lake Show ...no doubter...as there is a huge gap between 'em... HUGE ...and probably for the rest of the league and the... Lakers...who are horrible ...the Ball kid got his comeuppance...or whatever one calls it...as the Clips, especially, Pat Beverly, worked the kid over...listen, the daddy put the kid in a bad position... he's not a superstar...he can play, but can't shoot ...the Clippers?...hard to tell, but, certainly better than the other LA team... LA...Bums ...made it a no doubter in the closing of da Cubbies series...11-1, something like that...as Enrique Hernandez (Puerto Rico!!!) hit THREE dingers ...er, home runs...and off they go to the World Ser...
