'With the 24th pick in the 1986 NBA Player Draft, the Portland Trailblazers select...Arvydas Sabonis!'...shock waves throughout the Pacific Northwest...wait who?...well, specifically a bunch of dudes having lunch in West Salem...Oregon...let me set the stage...it was back in the days of summer hoop camp at the high schools for the youngins in the feeder areas...I was an assistant, then, with the boss, the infamous Chuck Robinson, at the helm...so, we were a group of coaches...eating and awaiting the selection...you see, for the region, the Blazers were THE team...had anyone drafted a Euro before?...

It is the guess work of all franchises of the league...year after year...there is no other sport, that a draftee plays as quickly in the bigs as the hoops...so...if you have a pick in the top 5...your guy will probably be a huge part of what your makeup is...in the next season...this year, there are 5 elite kids...so it is being predicted...

However, the game has changed remarkably...it USED to be a big man's league...not now...it is a MOBILE one...guys have to play in and out...gone, is the pound the rock to the big posting down low...it's more of a high pick and roll...and drive and dish...so...a 6'9" kid is more valuable than a 7' dude...yet, the scribes are saying the 2 top picks...are bigs...hmmm...

Thanks for the comments on yesterday's blog...sure it is heart felt...but it is a reality...part of history of the nation...and NOT a moment of pride...for anyone...

The frustrating Padres...finally got a home game...it's a brief 2 gamer with the Oakland A's...were leading in the 9th...2-1...2 outs and the closer...blew it...gave up a dinger...BTW, he has blown 2 in a row...yikes!...then lost in the OT...as the former Salemite and teammate of son Cris...Jed Lowrie hit a 2 run home run to beat the locals...well, if we are going to lose, best be to him...

The Mickelson Mockery...continues to be an issue...as other Pros are chiming in...to be fair and honest...there are those who say that he acted without premeditation...a reactionary thing...looked otherwise to moi...regardless, he should have been DQ'd...

Kirstjen Nielsen...the spokeswoman (actually the DHS 'Chief') for the POTUS on the 'illegals problem', here in the US of A...just happened to be eating in a Mexican restaurant last eve in DC...got some heckling by some very disgruntled peops...I can't make this stuff up...

The hype on the new pixel series 'Yellowstone', starring Kevin Costner...has been intriguing...on the Paramount Channel (?)...it got panned in the USA Today...let me judge for myself...

You want more horse racing?...the Royal Ascot is upon us out of England...talk about get ups...top hats and all...what color will the Queen wear?...inquiring minds want to know...

Finally, the boyz are back and we are commingling out at the course...egads, has it been like 3 weeks since I hacked about?...I may swing and miss...FORE!...

Good morning all, from the great state of Oregon...this whole trip is about FRIENDS!...meeting up with peops we have been with over our years in the PNW...and for Boss's reunion....the opening act was a combo party of the two at this pad, a bar, called Johnny's...simply said, it was fun... The stories were there, the faces remained the same...and it tickled moi, that so many FRIENDS showed up...unfortunately, I did not get enough time to talk to all, please forgive me...when you go back some 60 years, my memory does fade a tad...well, and so does their's...ha ha...believe me, it was worth the trip... Boss was one of the belles of the ball...yes, she still looks great...you know that....well, the rest of her class did not know that, until last eve...she was flitting (flirting) about so...which made me smile...and that is only the beginning of it...the REAL reunion is tonight...one of my FRIENDS reminded me that is the gals reunion...which I think is most reunions...it is for...

When the thesaurus ran it's new version...it highlighted the word 'oration'...and there it was ... President Barack Obama...and then there is more..... see...Michelle Obama ...these two have the fundamental prowess of giving speeches...at the right time...at the right place... No better example of this, than last night at the DNC...each were marvelous...of course ...it's what people, special people, like these two...do...carry a message across the Nation...that we all can not only understand, but agree with... For seemingly years, the Horse has said...that if Michelle O wanted to be in the White House, AGAIN...this time as the President, and not the wife...she could ...however, for right now...she is supporting the right choice...for this time of the history of our country....
