The Answer
Okay kids...you had time to answer my query...Google it, or whatever...the group who sang backup to the Bobby Boris Pickett song, 'Monster Mash'...was...drum roll please...'The Blossoms'...the 3 main gals, were Fanith James, Jean King, and this other one, that you might know...Darlene Love...
In fact, they sang back up to many HIT SONGS, other than Mash...but, let's not move on just yet...they were in cahoots with none other than the 'Wall of Sound' dude, Phil Spector...and Mash was written in half of an hour...and recorded in half an hour...it was just a graveyard smash...
The Blossoms were background vocals for many others...as I said before...two of my all time favorite songs...yes, kids...all time...the Righteous Brothers 'You've Lost That Lovin Feelin', and Shelley Fabares 'Johnny Angel'...+ many many more...
They got screwed on another...listen to this...do you recall the monster hit 'He's A Rebel'?...yes, another of my all time favs...it's true...it was said to be sung by the Crystals...NO!...it was not...another artist was to record it, and Spector wouldn't have it, he needed to rush the cut...BUT, the Crystals were on the east coast on a gig...so, he used this background group to record it...yes, it was The Blossoms...who NEVER got credit for recording it...as 'The Crystals' were given the name...it was not them...forever...
Darlene Love...moved to the forefront...BUT, guess what?...there was another Blossom, like sort of...that sang on the 'Lovin Feelin' song...Love's car broke down...and they asked this 17 year old to fill in...and she did...some GAL named Cher....who also did backups to Love's 'Be My Baby'...and most of Phil Spector's infamous Christmas Album...and was featured in Love's classic 'Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)...hey recall the Crystal's 'Da Do Run Run'....you can clearly hear Cher as the lead backup...
Very shortly thereafter...this gal Cher, teamed up with the Bono dude, Sonny...and the historically crazed wonder 'I Got You Babe'...was launched...and they kept going...even to Salem, Oregon...at the Armory where the Horse was up front a gazing at the duo...
And that's the way it was...and the truth...
