The Capital Journal...ah


Back in the day...there was this afternoon paper in the grand city of Salem, Orygun...called the Capital Journal...imagine having 2 newspapers in a relatively small town....one in the am, and one in the pm...of course, this is prior to all the web crap out there...and cell phones and 24 hours news on the pixels...I could go on...my point?...you are getting the afternoon edition of the Horse...yes, way early tee time...

In these times of multi million, multi year contracts in pro football...a weird phenomena has come about...those who get beat up the most...are getting the least...what?...used to be the QB...but now, they are greatly protected...who is next?...the running backs...and for some reason, the owners tag them as a dime a dozen...as many of the franchises are going more to the passing attack...and good luck to the RB's...who still get pounded to near death...RESULT?...they get the least $ of all the dudes who play...money, cash, dinero, pesos, quid...euros...whatever...it ain't right, the Horse says...

As the era of tremendous singers...is going bye bye...the death of one of the legends...Tony Bennett, at the age of 96....'I Left My Heart in San Francisco'...the best of the best...he released like 70 albums...and many many hits, over many decades...a true star of the field...

Many of youse are in pools...of wagering who might win the Open...how many of you have Brian Harman?...a USA guy, that is 5 up after 2 rounds...wowser...not a long hitter, but has a crazy good short game...

Uh oh, the trumpsters are in a tizz...as the trial that awaits him is now set for May....too bad, dude...it was not set for after the election after all...can he still fire the judge he appointed?...

You gonna watch the gals play tonight in the World Cup?...the Horse plans on seeing some of it...soccer is not my bag, but I do like to watch this team...against Vietnam...prediction?...3-nil...

It's kinda early, but I have one bloke who I don't like...ever since he addressed the current crop of Colorado football guys...the ones that were still there...telling them to pack their bags...Deion Sanders...I wish him the worst luck possible...and can hardly wait for the Duck game with his vagabond crew...kick their arse!...well, his...

At least there is some interest in the flicks...a big opening weekend for 2...'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer'...no, we will not go...wait until they hit the small screen...'Barbie'?...probably not...'Oppenheimer'?...definitely...

I can't find the answer to this...since trump started running for Prez, how many lawyers have worked for him?...how many have left?...how many has he fired?...how many are still with him?...and finally, how many has he NOT PAID?...

For your memory bank...Dick Cavett...television host of the 60's and 70's...had a favorite thing he would ask his guests...'what book have you been reading?'...the highlight was when he asked that Q to Sly of the Family Stone...who was high as a kite...who reversed it, and it could have not been funnier...

The former 'Redskins' of Washington...the NFL team that was owned by the hated Dan Snyder...who was forced to rename the team...to the 'Commodores'...have been sold...and the new group will probably rename the squad and change the colors...there you go...

We did go down to the Gaslamp to watch the crazies at ComicCon...last eve...ordered 18 wings...man, who can eat 18 of them?...not us...there are a lot of peops who just love dressing themselves up in comic wear...the last comic I can recall was Beetle Bailey...and I saw NO ONE dressed as him...

He is alive and kicking...

Top of the morning, friends...as we embark on a shortish Cosmo trip (6+ hours) up north to see the kids. ..we try to see them every month or two....whatever works for us, and them...school has just started for them...and Cy has both football and soccer, he is playing...Cas, at 3, is still a wannabe... The distancing of trump with the public, was a bit weird, right?. ..he emerged and was talking the same...his appearance was a bit shaggy...he must have had the flu, or, well, Covid, or something...but, he is NOT DEAD....and still up to his shenanigans...same old...anything to bring up, to divert the people from hearing about the Epstein Files ...he unabashedly, called the whole thing a 'Democratic Hoax'... Hmmm...as 6 of the Survivors of it...(the Epstein Case) ...were talking, not only to the House....but, to the public, yesterday...as MTG was front and center with it...which, too, was odd...a fallout from trump?...or, a plant within the group?...no, trump, it is not a hoax.....

Hometown Baseball

You might think back to all the rivalries you have witnessed over the years...in high school, college, ah, well, team sports...shoot, could be choirs, math contests, and the like...BUT...the thrill of it all, is what I am talking about...I could name a hundred such things...that I recall...however, right now...there is one brewing in the Gaslamp...the Friars are hosting the Bums...believe it or not, this is new...you see, the Padres have been borderline pathetic for many seasons...not that they haven't had good ones...but, consistency has not been a virtue...things have changed...and the squad has deepened... The Bums have long had their nemesis, and or rivalry cat, as the San Francisco Giants...no mas...it is the Friars...the team that knocked them outta the playoffs last year...and here they come, to make avenge...3 games this weekend over at Petco...they have been playing super lately...really really super...the Pads?...hit and miss...my guess, is that the juices will flow for b...
