Turning to Hoops



The football world is about done...well, the final 4 is upon us...and now we finally will turn our attention to the oddly changed game of basketball...not exactly sure what it has become...unrecognizable to most of us who coached, played, watched in our generation...'My Generation', ah, The Who...who else?...

The 3 Ball...now, everyone shoots it...the bigs, too...which makes the passing, movement of the former game...an ancient part of it's history...most all teams do this...dribble drive, off of a post screen...or, a weave beyond the 3 point line...then, the dribble drive...all have spot up shooters in the corner...there you go...exciting?...and don't you dare touch the shooter...a foul for sure...it's much like the NFL's protection of the QB's...I have no idea what a moving screen is...now...

The defense...what?...no longer a help and recover...or a double...cutting the floor?...naw...most teams just switch all screens...witness the Lakers/Clippers last nite...LeBron kept going by dudes, until the opposing center was left on him, 1 on 1...he scored 46...and the LaLa Lakers still lost...their 10th straight to the Clips...oh well...

The beauty of the fast break...gone...as when it is there, one or both of the wings...spot up in the corners...layups?...c'mon...3>2...

Well, that is just me...there are those who just love this style...probably you...as the saying goes 'it is what it is'...really applies here...the scoring is way up...fans like that...the players probably, too...as what do the coaches add that changes what I have just said?...so the millionaire hoopsters do what they want on the floor...as I have told you earlier in past blogs entries...the theme song of the NBA should currently be YMCA!...

He is alive and kicking...

Top of the morning, friends...as we embark on a shortish Cosmo trip (6+ hours) up north to see the kids. ..we try to see them every month or two....whatever works for us, and them...school has just started for them...and Cy has both football and soccer, he is playing...Cas, at 3, is still a wannabe... The distancing of trump with the public, was a bit weird, right?. ..he emerged and was talking the same...his appearance was a bit shaggy...he must have had the flu, or, well, Covid, or something...but, he is NOT DEAD....and still up to his shenanigans...same old...anything to bring up, to divert the people from hearing about the Epstein Files ...he unabashedly, called the whole thing a 'Democratic Hoax'... Hmmm...as 6 of the Survivors of it...(the Epstein Case) ...were talking, not only to the House....but, to the public, yesterday...as MTG was front and center with it...which, too, was odd...a fallout from trump?...or, a plant within the group?...no, trump, it is not a hoax.....

Hometown Baseball

You might think back to all the rivalries you have witnessed over the years...in high school, college, ah, well, team sports...shoot, could be choirs, math contests, and the like...BUT...the thrill of it all, is what I am talking about...I could name a hundred such things...that I recall...however, right now...there is one brewing in the Gaslamp...the Friars are hosting the Bums...believe it or not, this is new...you see, the Padres have been borderline pathetic for many seasons...not that they haven't had good ones...but, consistency has not been a virtue...things have changed...and the squad has deepened... The Bums have long had their nemesis, and or rivalry cat, as the San Francisco Giants...no mas...it is the Friars...the team that knocked them outta the playoffs last year...and here they come, to make avenge...3 games this weekend over at Petco...they have been playing super lately...really really super...the Pads?...hit and miss...my guess, is that the juices will flow for b...
