The Trailblazers have increased their talent load...the guard tandem are of the best in the league...the franchise has moved and shaken up their bigs, often...the team can score...in fact, the way to their wins, is to outscore others...BUT...the good teams out there, have outstanding shooters...lots of them...so, DEFENSIVELY, one needs to adjust the coaching technique...ah, when a player does not play, it is termed, DNP...
When a coach doesn't coach, it should be called DNC!...which is exactly what the PDX dude has done for his tenure at the helm of this squad...he REFUSES to hedge his big dudes on the shooters...regardless of whom he has for his defense coach, he must over-ride them...cuz, he has used the same system for his entire time in Portland...
Double teaming...help and recover...whatever you may refer to it...the common term in hoopland is 'hedging'...means the same...Portland drops their center to middle of the key, and leaves the guard defender out to dry, so to speak...on an island....in as much, as people think the likes of Dame and CJ are not good defenders...hey, MJ, would have taken a hit on this ploy....
So, here you have the best shooters in the league, the Splash Bros...teeing off...Curry and Thompson, shooting uncontested shots...the Blazers know it...Dame even talked about it in the post game interview...but, the coach, Terry Stotts, bristled...like he is going down with the ship...as to his theory of...well, lack of hedging...
I have spent time with the likes of Coaches Gahr and Cross, who agree with moi...at least show it at times...change up the D, so the shooters have to wonder what is there...as it is, there ain't nuttin....a practice shot...
If there isn't an adjustment in this scheme...this series will be over quickly...let's hope that he gets rid of the moniker DNC and COACHES!...
