So, This Is Sunday

My how times have changed...Sunday...for us who grew up in the 50's...ah, the childhood days...the innocence of it all...there was no internet...very little TV, and what there was, was in black and white...color?...a dream in the making...Ike, our President...'we like Ike'...egads, Nixon, was the VP...oh well...who didn't have Levis, pegged, as we got into our teens?...gals wore bobby sox, and when brazen, trotted out in pedal pushers...our parents had American made cars...the Ford, Chevy, or Dodge...of course, there were others...but, not many...we all had bikes...ah, one speed...that we would put baseball cards attached to the spokes, that made the sound real rad...er, cool...with clothespins...that our mothers would have a plenty...to hang our washed clothes out to dry on the 'clothes line'...what dryer?...a good chance that both parents smoked cigarettes...all the time...and, if they drank, it was a beer...really...and, don't get me started about the prices of things...all things...to have loose change was a coup...Coke was a nickel...candy bars, the same...where I grew up, they had this delicacy, 'the Chemawa cocktail', this time it was a bottle of Pepsi... and you put a bag of peanuts in the neck of it...gosh, it was a real treat...mighty tasty, kids...the music?...splitsville...the radio played two versions...for the normal, it was Pat Boone, and for the heathens, it was Elvis Presley...at least in our house...ha ha...and, what about church?...most, make that MOST, people attended somewhere...shoot, the stores were closed on the day, too...none were open...none...that's the way it was...

And now...

Church?...maybe 20% attend...I think that may be high...the cost of things?...outta sight...well, I needn't go on...you KNOW the state of things, now...

A horrific shooting (another and it is always horrific) in a church...a synagogue in Poway, just outside of our fine city...when will this end?...ever?...someday we may throw away the rapid fire guns...someday...

What the heck was that finish to the Spurs/Nuggets game?...of all teams, that are so 'well coached' by Pop...had no clue how to finish off a game...a game SEVEN!...when they needed to stop the clock and prolong the game...but, there he was, LaMarcus Aldridge...with 25 seconds to go, down 4...and just staring at his ball hugging opponent...five feet away...as the time was ticking away...Pop is running up the sideline, telling him to foul...nope...listen, kids...from the 5th grade on, you, as a player, KNOW what to do....needless to say, I am not an LA fan, especially when he was in PDX...choke city, he was....whatever, Nuggets win...and now host them Blazers....

We decided to take a bike ride down to the bay...our usual trip is all the way to Shelter Island...go sniff out the happenings over by the Hilton, first...there was festival of sorts going on...music and a stage erected...and a thousand or more people, roaming all over the place...ie, the foos on the latest contraption to ruin it all...the motorized scooter...whose riders bob and weave about, at near 15 mph...you can imagine the chaos...well, our excursion came to a crunching halt...as one of them scooter blokes, nearly hit me...that was it, the ride was done...we called it off...have decided that the weekends are too dangerous...so, weekdays, it is, from now on...

Talked to an ER doctor the other day...his comment was that almost ALL of the people he sees, are those who are injured riding them scooters...an epidemic, I tell ya...imagine them at night in the Gaslamp...on 5th...drinks, youngins (heathens) and the motorized scooters...fights, too?...I reckon...

The mighty Padres have now won FIVE in a row...the last 2 in DC...beat two of the best pitchers in the game...yesterday, was an OT...where SD poured 6 runs into the 10th...ah, sometimes starter, Hunter Renfroe, continues his hot streak...with another dinger...think that Mgr Green just may give him the starting nod more often?...I dunno....whatever he is doing, it is working...

Idol tonight...they are performing songs done by the group Queen...Freddy Mercury...the featured guest is Adam Lambert...who sings with Queen on tour...egads, would not want to follow him, when it's your turn, right?...

Speaking of screaming...Trump...has ordered his subordinates to not respond to the subpoenas that the House has given them...the latest to deny it?...AG Barr, maybe...the rule of law?...give me a break...so, if YOU choose to refuse the subpoena, what is the course of action?...I mean, with Donny's own words 'nobody refuses my orders'...is that not dictator like?...and get away with ?...

The House has 2 courses of action...either 'disregard it'...or charge them with a misdemeanor...'criminal contempt'...this will get really interesting...

So...this...his 'orders' may backfire...further subpoena blocking may lead to the only thing left...to get at the truth, IMPEACH the bloke....ah, this is gonna get good...

How about this...2 major universities did not have ONE player drafted in the NBA thang in Nashville...Virginia Tech and get this, Nebraska!...what?...

It's a wassie and eggs morn...
