On The Radio

You heard it... 'on the radio'...a fixture for most of the past century...in fact, the mode of news up to the early 50's...1950's...then the TV news took over...it was the AM stations that dominated...ie, the wisp of it all...for the music...if it was 'on the radio' it was a hit song...

Call in radio was way cool then...you could actually talk to the DJ of the station...get a record that you wanted heard, played...and could dedicate it to someone special...it was, the sigh and sign of the times...I bring this up, cuz we are closing in on Valentine's Day...hey, I know it is commercial, but what the heck...it's a good one...

BREAKING NEWS!...from ESPN radio...the Cavs are trading Isaiah Thomas, Channing Frye and a draft pick to the LaLa Lakers for Jordan Clarkson and Larry Nance, Jr...what?  wait, it's more than that...the Cavs also pick up guards from elsewhere...TBN...and send Dwayne Wade back to the Heat...what is going on?

FM took over most of the play time...pretty much dominated...in the next few decades, until the latest wave of the paid 'radio'...the diff between the AM and FM?...amplitude modulation and frequency modulation...sounded clearer in the FM...like it has a stronger signal...I dunno, I think that's what they told us...easier to hear the all important stereo sound...

The Beatles and CSNY had some great songs that were played over the airwaves, where the voices could be heard separately in the different left and right speakers...way cool...try on 'Wooden Ships' for one...Stephen Stills in the left, and Davis Crosby in the right...as an example...

Sporting events are still broadcast 'on the radio'...especially local high school sports...usually on the AM...for 4 (or is that for, or fore, or foor, see yesterday's blog) years I posed as an analyst on the Salem, Orygun station of KBZY for high school hoops games...with the legendary play by play guy of the area, Mark Gilman...who is STILL doing his craft...hoorah...

And...it's all FREE!...mind you...and somewhere in the passage of around 70 years...somebody came up with an idea of radio, with NO COMMERCIALS!...however, it came at a price...

Yup, you would have to pay for the radio...out came a bevy of them...and then HD radio...even clearer  a sound...XM...Sirius...Pandora...the list goes on...now...they have a 'you pick the genre' set of channels...you want country?...you got it...want the 60's?...yup...want college football?...OC...anything you desire, it is there...

Was there a better song for this topic AND for the sounds of the time...of disco...really, I liked it a lot...than by Donna Summer...'On the Radio'...

Sure, and you can stream it to your computer, too...it's all there...any of it...the AM, FM, or the paid ones...we are advanced, aren't we...

Yes, it is cool...and I have the XM in my rigs...absolutely lurve it...and yes, I have trouble going back to the regular FM or AM, due to those annoying, yet financially necessary commercials...but listen kids...it's an option...

Other...

Terrific finish to the Wensday nite NBA game...as the King hit a fadeaway at the buzzer to beat the TWolves...and he was awesome throughout the game...really...as the Cavs needed it in the worst way...this was certainly, not the worst...about time he played to his ability...

OK, I'll bite...the naming of your new born...Stormi...just after the disclosure of the alleged affair of DJ Trump back in ott six...with Stormi Daniels...is a bit suspect...I don't think if I have ever heard of a name of that before...have you?...

I found Omarosa...after getting fired from the Apprentice (twice) and then lately, from her gig at the White House...she has turned up in the new and more exciting (?) Celebrity Big Brother...to be honest, these are peops who are NOT celebrities in me mind...but, I know I have heard of most of them...ha ha...

Former Pres W Bush says that there was Russian meddling in the last election...so that's it...if he says it happened, then it did...case closed...move on...

You feeling the wave of this...Whole Foods...recently bought out by Amazon...the upscale 'organic super market'...has had this report out...they are mysteriously been running out of food...on their shelves...oops, that can't be good for business...

Sorry Prez T, but the North Koreans beat you to it...they had their military parade the day before the Winter Olympics started...wait, they started?...is it NBC?...that is carrying it?...whoever is, the promo for the games, is HORRIFIC!...

As Charles Osgood, said at the end of his very good show of CBS's 'Sunday Morning'..."I'll see you on the radio'...
