Labor Day

Back when...LABOR DAY...when I worked...egads, that sounds odd...it was the final day off prior to getting the school year started...the last breath, so to speak...as the days did not stop until Thanksgiving....so it seemed...I would head on out to the Fair, catch the ponies for the closing day...

The actual holiday was started back in the 90's, like 1890's...back when people would work 12 hour days and 7 days a a week...really?...so it was said...hmmm, the real story was that there was a strike in Chicago...a recession was in place...many workers were laid off due to the lack of demand of train cars...what?...George Pullman (recognize that name?) was the owner and started the buzz...the union that helped the workers went on strike...Congress tried to appease them...by giving them a day off...ha ha...called it Labor Day...it stuck...soon, many states ratified it...the first being the great state of Oregon...

Nowadays, it is considered the end of summer, and the beginning of school...the first Monday in September...that brief moment of time, suspended in the calendar...right before the new bustling about...begins...if you are still in the work force, enjoy your day off...

Used to be, all, and I mean ALL collegiate football games were on Saturday...now...due to TV $...and a lot of it...the schools play all over the place and almost any day of the week...on a Sunday, "Never on a Sunday"...that's my day of rest...wait, that's a song for a movie...it is the day of the church...apparently not any more...am I wrong or am I wrong?...

Anyhoo, the Catholic based Fighting Irish of Notre Dame decided to play a game on a Sunday...what?...traveled to Texas to play the once proud Longhorns...who have been mired in an extended period of time of mediocre football...not so good, in arguably the biggest state that is dedicated to that game...and...I'm sure they were thinking that they were going to get a big W against a patsy...well now...a new O coordinator...a dude who came from the fast break Baylor system...ala UO...and a star Frosh, like real freshman, QB...and the fans have caught wind of "change"...

The Irish are loaded...to Horse, as good as there is in the collegiate ranks...unfortunately, not the best coached team...or fortunately...ha ha...as usual...it was a super fun game to watch...went to OT...and the upstart Texas kids won...WON!...delirium it was...all this...on a Sunday...praise the ____....oops, not needed Horse...

Yes, this is the closing day out at Del Mar...just like it was back in Oregon at the end of the Fair...well, sort of...and here...school started up already...Marsh wants me to forego the day there...but I have some tix $ to cash out...Costanza...we'll see...

Pads crap...what else can I call it?...sure you are rebuilding...but at what cost?...lost is the human element of it all...as they released their SS Rameriz to wherever...you see, he was the guy that they brought in to take over that spot for the season...as they changed their minds, and traded off all their, er most, of the their vets...he was one of the holdovers...not any more...see ya...this is just an odious organization...led by the foo Fowler...and Trader AJ, let's hope that all of you are not drinking the Kool Aid...

More serious stuff...as the World Leaders are meeting in China to discuss whatever....like Syria...the next door neighbor is trying to show it's strength...North Korea..by launching ballistic missiles out into the sea...even towards Japan...hmmm...this is a hot bed of lunacy...I wonder what the Chinese really think of them...

Get this...the Pick 5 out at Saratoga (NY) was hit yesterday for $1.2 million!!!...is that the largest one ever?...

Now THAT would make for a great Labor Day...
