Labor Day

Caught between jobs doesn't mean I can't celebrate Labor Day with all of you...ah yes, the LAST day before school starts...for us teachers, it was the last celebratory day until Thanksgiving...really?...we, just like the kids, had great anxiety and impending...well, you know...

It meant for me a last trip to the horse races out at the state fair...a relaxing day with $40 to figure out them nags...and then seeing if I could fit into my dressy type of clothes...and if not, a late dash to Fred Meyer to get something cool to start the year off...I always (well, usually) wore a tie for the 1st day...and then put it away until hoops season...

And practiced my lingo...as when somebody said something off color to me, my immediate reaction to it, was fire back some equally disgusting things...you arse, or something like that...instead, I found myself smiling, and saying nuttin...thinking bad things, and yet...staying cool...happened a lot in the first 2 weeks...every year..."When will I ever use this in real life?"...I digress...

Shining my shoes...yup, back then, I had the ones that one could spit shine...sounds awful...but, I would get the paste and get them babies in to a mirror look...wing tips...remember them?...even had a pair of cream ones...and got them to be glassy...that's a thing of the past...now, they are all soft soled off color orthos, for the good feet...so one can stand for hours in them...screw you, you softies...

Knowing that I would have to get up at 5:45 am...not the 7 hour that I had spent a whole 3 months getting used to...

And now...I use this day as a reminder that the beaches will be somewhat bare during the day...that during the week, the GQ will be much less hectic...that out at the GC, there will be no kiddies until the late afternoon...as this is high school golf season...there won't be lines at Richard Walkers during the week...our fav breakfast place...and most importantly, when we go to Maui in 2 weeks, it's mostly adults...ah yes, this Labor Day...

Other stuff...

My Fantasy Football (notice the Caps) starts tomorrow eve...it's an online draft thinger...and I am ready...well, sort of...

Momentum...a critical part of all sports...and when the Gyorko (Pad's 2B) dropped a routine pop up to start the game...it was a signal that we were not in it to win it yesterday...as the Bums salvaged game number 3...

Rafael Berjarano won 6 races yesterday out at Del Mar...that was in 8 tries...think I would have $ on him?...it's a critical part of my betting process...by the way, two more days of racing this session...and yup, I haven't gone yet...

World Cup hoops...1st soccer, now basketball...and our star is the defenseless bloke out of Houston, Hardin...Coach K has to pull what's left of his hair out, trying to get him to mimic a defender...it's the lost art in the now players of the day...sad, really...as the US overcame an awful start and still beat Turkey...right...by the way, the "big names" pulled themselves out of this team...it's not USA, er us, it's all about me!...

Big Brother...the hardest HOA of the season...some of the falls those kids took would have left imaginable bruises on my body...as they had to ice skate to their destination...and did NOT know that the cowboy was an Iraq War vet...now am pulling for him...

Stanford/Duck game...Snooki, am I  supposed to have an all weather coat for this epic fray?...November has the weird weather...can't you get a Suite for this occasion?...I mean, c'mon...

Lightning...as the wild weather is traveling up the east coast...you have to respect mother nature and get indoors with the bolts an impending doom...

The iPhone 6 is supposed to be unleashed on the public next week...and I am in line for one of them...the big deal is the bigger screen, a better camera, and the sapphire screen...that will resist breakage...sounds like the almost Goretex jacket, which resists rain...that term "resists" is a misnomer...

Laborfull Day...as I send M out to work today...call me mean...or something else...all applies...as she is on floor...and is seeking the right buyer for a 2nd home in paradise...give her a call and she can line you up with a downtown condo...and enjoy 70* the year round...hey, at least rent a place for awhile and see if it's for you...you can get one for $2000 a month...

Shelton/Lambert turn down...as Vegas was offering them a cool million bucks for one weekend of concerts...Caesars I think...Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert...they countered with $1.25 mill...and the casino balked...what?...I would go to that show and pay a pretty penney...er, buck...

Hmmm, it's all about the money, right?...
