They released an album (it is what it was then) called "Little Deuce Coupe" in October of 1963...I think but a month after issuing "Surfer Girl"...striking while the fire is hot...who would guess that they would last as long as they have...
I was but a lad of 16...a believer of pretty much every thing that an adult told me...which in that genre meant everyone older than 18...ha ha...and certainly a politician...which, I never, ever, paid much attention to....or watched on TV...which I never, ever watched....too busy being a kid....playing sports and chasing girls...and all....oh yea, and studying...
We were at an all school assembly of...well, we called it a "talent show"...at the end of our short day...we went from 7am to 12:20pm....huge school...so we had to double shift...anyway...in the middle of the performances...out strolled across the stage this older feller (older than me)...and he had an announcement....first of all, I had no idea who he was...he was the principal....he told us that the there was a shooting in Dallas, Texas...and the President had been shot...we were excused to our class rooms...SHOCK!...
Shortly thereafter...the release was that the President was dead...that he was assassinated...and the whole world changed....at least what I could see...it was before noon...and the school released all of us...to go home...kids were crying, stunned, and bewildered...as was I...as we trudged home...and I did something I had never done before...turned on the TV and watched...
I continued to do so...all through the weekend...through the Sunday morning when the accused shooter was to be moved from the jail to some other place (?)...we actually had a glimpse of him...and out of the crowd emerges another shooter...really...who then shoots the shooter!...yup, I watched it LIVE...I felt euphoria...then saddened...I was happy...then sad...as the assassin was killed himself...the end of the story, right?...
Every baby boomer I know...knew who, what, when, and where they were when the news hit them...and can do what I am doing...describe it...to you...I bet you have the same set of remembrances...regardless of your age...
From that time on, I did something that I had never done before...became a skeptic...of our government...hey, I wasn't a non-believer or anything...I just had some pessimistic feelings to any release that came my way...
Especially when it came to the JFK assassination...I marveled at the book that Mark Lane wrote...Rush To Judgement...and those that followed...doubting what we were spoon fed...in these days of TMZ, the present day Washington Post, the Huffington Post...etc...no quick releases would suffice...proof would have to be there...
And...as time wore on...and files suppressed, we were to believe what we were given...the new President, LBJ, wanted immediate info to be given to the public...and as quickly as possible...he had an election coming up...this is true...get on with this...we need to move on...was his "bullying" demand to his subordinates...which just was the rest of the political blokes...we had no idea that this would be a term that would be so much in vogue in the 2013's...ha ha...
Then...a pile of sludge came our way...as we learned that so much of what we were told, was only part truths...the path of JFK...from the way he got elected to the people who were after him...to the Vietnam lies...to the chaotic rule of the FBI by Hoover...to the killings of RFK and Martin Luther King...to the embarrassment of Nixon...and on and on...
There were countless TV productions of the JFK assassination...trying to prove that there was but a lone gunman...or trying to prove that it was a conspiracy...a provocative movie "JFK" was released...CBS had their version...CNN just let one out...there are so many, you must know it is a money maker...just by the name itself...
I believe...yes...I believe....that there were many involved...that maybe, there was but one shooter...maybe...that he was part of a plan that was inevitable...that there were at least two other attempts planned...maybe many more...my reasoning?...
1. The mob...needed in his election to the presidency, his father went to Chicago to get much needed help from the labor unions...with the promise of help in return...in a very close election...very close...and when they wanted retribution...when he had the opportunity to cover the CIA guys in the Bay of Pigs...and didn't do it....and thus, the loss of the casino $ in Havanna...well, he was a marked man...
2. Russia...if you bought in that the lone gunman was in fact the solo killer...the fact that he lived in Russia as a defector has to be considered...the CIA was a much bigger thing than all of us knew then...there were counter counter counter agents everywhere...and the solo killer had so many Russian ties upon his arrival back in the US...coincidence?...
3. Cuba...it was a known item, that the CIA was trying to kill Castro...many, many times...the Russian sympathetic leader...who was trying to set up a satellite base for them...just off our shores...makes sense...if the US is trying to cut off the head of that country, then Cuba would try to do the same here...
And yet...our government would want you to believe that none of this happened...that it was a looney tune of a guy...did it all by himself...got lucky and shot with preciseness that he had never shown before...that was able to go in and out of the country without any stoppage...that could enter communistic embassies with ease...that would watch in amazement as a local bar owner himself, in rage, kill the killer...just happened...no ties, no nothing...sure...you can buy that if you want...
Someday...yup someday...it will be revealed....someday....a skeptic...I am...
