Bring in Da Clowns

In a game of a finite set of rules, which is called in infinite ways...BASEBALL carries itself like no other major sport...cloaked in antiquity...resisting all modern changes that are available...and lends itself to second guessing and in many cases, ultimate humiliation...either to the players, coaches, or to the umpires...or all...where as an "in the neighborhood" play at 2nd base is called a definitive out...well now, it's historically called like that...to the utmost of all ambiguity, the essence of the game itself, "the strike zone"...which floats like a butterfly like no other...where no other sport has an umpire make a call on every single play in the game...well...you might say, it is a perfectly imperfect contest...OK...

The World Series...where the two best teams arrive at the gate of immortality...the hallowed grounds of being the champs...get themselves the ring of distinction...and bask in the glory forever...BUT...this time around we have the exception...where misguided plays are the norm...not the flawless magic of the super beisbol guys...it is a comedy of errors, for all 3 games thus far...and have led to the wins for each...mistakes that are made on much lower levels, but certainly, not by the best the game has to offer...or...

Let's examine one set of fundamental parts of game number 3...where the game is tied at 4 in the
bottom of the 9th...and the home team, Saint Looey, had runners on 2nd and 3rd...after a double by a gimpy, yet effective hitter...who had to be in the lineup, due to that positive trait...and...the runner on 3rd is the catcher Molina, who may be the slowest runner in all of the game...of ALL BASEBALL...there is one out...

The Bosox, defy normal logic...where the team would intentionally walk the next batter...and set up the double play...and thus escape unscathed...and move on...eegads...they chose to pitch to a very dangerous hitter instead...Bozo like...draw the infield in...a term used by the intelligent foos who write about this stuff...so, if the ball is hit right to them, they can easily throw out a runner trying to advance home...or more to bluff him back to 3rd...BRILLIANCE!...the ball is hit sharply to the 2nd baseman...

Let the Circus begin...the runner from 3rd breaks (?) to home...is thrown out by 10 feet...NO EXAGGERATION...and the other slow afoot dude on 2nd ambles toward 3rd...the catcher, after tagging Molina so out, wheels and chucks the ball to his 3rd baseman, to make a most unconventional double play...except, in his excitement...threw the bloody thing into left field...and thus, the game away...

BUT...the left fielder was backing the play up...retrieved the ball and fired it home to the catcher who tagged out the gimp laden runner...easily...WAIT...there is mass confusion...the ump at 3rd (none other than the Perfect Ump Joyce) called OBSTRUCTION on the 3rd baseman...and...awarded the runner home plate...and thus...THE WIN!...

Replays of the fiasco were inconclusive...well, to me...of course, the way baseball is...there is no visual replay used...this year...and the call stood, er, stands...it is a finite rule...which is called in infinite ways...to me...let the scuffle, er entanglement, continue...and let the game go on...perfectly imperfect...right Shink?...

Football...
As we get into the last half of the season...it is time for the real dudes to step up, and the lucky to get their due...the top 4 in the land continued their trek...Bama, Oregon, FSU, and Ohio St...did not see the Duck game yet....as I was on the Amtrak, heading home...taped it and will watch today...but...some key teams got eliminated...Mizzou, by a blown FG...Nebraska (?) by Minnesota...out in the MWC, SDSU lost to undefeated Fresno St...in OT...missed a chance to win the game in regulation...blown FG...get this...the Aztecs, ticked off at their kicker...replaced him with a bloke who'd never kicked a good one...came back to haunt SDSU...this team has been awful at the end of games...awful...

OSU...had many chances to upset the Cardinal...and were inside the 10 at the end...4 tries and Stanford survived...and POOF...there goes the Beavers...is it just me, or are the Beavs better than they play?...they have all the parts...and are stuck in the 60's...and I don't mean points...

OK, we had a great trip up north...as I said before, by train...so much nicer, and less stressful, than driving through LA...in particular...and tried to help out our injured son...who is doing very well, thank you...it's a long hard journey...he's on the right path...and his mate, Leila, is doing a wonderful version of a nurse...not easy, kids...

Time to turn on the flat screen...
