Back in the Pac-10

The Bolts playing as if they should have all year last night in a 34-7 slap over the hapless Raiders. They are still alive and need a KC upset over the Broncs.
As the D1 season settles into playoff time (oops I mean bowl time) the unfortunate coaches get the boot from their respective jobs. SDS is looking, so is UDUB, so are many others. So what's the trick to success? 2-5 years ago they were the saviour to that college and then wham! they are gone. Looked so promising then. What is the ticket? Recruiting.
Just investigating the Pac-10 the bulk of the rosters are kids from...California. Look at the facts:
U of O 57, OSU 37, UDUB 44, Ariz 49, ASU 48...that's not counting the Cali schools who are 95% from that state. So you get hired, you get into Cali and flood the market with your coaches and come up with the best you can. Why would they pick U of O over UCLA? When over 50% of your players go there what would be the attraction? It rains there and is cold...it's all about what you are selling. Go figure.
Speaking of the Beavs, their head coach Mike Riley, was the head guy here at Charger land back from '99 to '01. He lasted 3 years which is amazing as his record was 14-43...and one year ('00) he was 1-15 and had as his QB the infamous Ryan Leaf...OK, ok, it's great to be back in the Pac-10! Just ask the Trojan's Pete Carroll if he prefers it to the NFL...
Let's see, we are pulling for Army, UCLA, and KC...fat chance!

The Padres have blueprints for moving in the right field wall at Petco Park, with the re-design extending all the way to the “beachers” grandstands in right center. But the construction will not be done until after the 2009 season at the earliest. Padres CEO Sandy Alderson said the delay is for “architectural reasons,” but budget restrictions could be playing a role.

That comes from yahoo! today.
