Abysmal

Well, what on earth was that?...dare I say fitting for the conclusion of the worst US Open in modern day history...can't tell you what the courses were like prior to the early 60's...but since?...this cowpie conditional piece of less than adequate surface for the best players in the world, should have been leveled and rebuilt a year after it opened...listening to the USGA tell the Fox Guys, that the green's grasses are like that in the Pacific Northwest made me want to scream at the pixels...that's a pure amount of bull shit...I've played on many a course up there....and year round the greens are great!...

Dustin Johnson, trailing by one...on the controversial 18th...the USGA decides whether to play it as a par 4 or 5...at their whim...to change daily...garbage...this final day...a par 5...DJ hits a marvelous iron to 10 or so feet...an EAGLE putt...to win the event...of course, Fox, televises his entourage...ready to scramble thru the hayfield and jump up and down on the browny splotch of the earth, so called, the greens...problem is...he's got a downhill, er down drainage putt...and lightning fast...

Of course...he misses...the ball bumps and grinds downward...and goes by the hole about 4 feet...the way the Open is set up...in the event of a tie, the playoff is 18 holes...the next day...he collects himself...let's be honest here...he always looks composed...and lines up the tying putt...and gasp!...it meanders about to the left...and...misses yet again...what?...he has lost the opportunity to be in OT...and the tourney...a hush goes over the place...

The pundits cry "choke!"...the biggest one since VandeVeld in the Open over the pond...what?...are you kidding me?...he made the greatest shot ever...to put himself in position to win...and...was stuck with the worst possible scenario...having to finish it off putting on those horrific browns...er, greens...sad to say, but it was the thing that I feared the most...that someone would lose the event due to the putting...certainly NOT A CHOKE!...but a product of the worst prepped course in the modern day history of the event...

The USGA should have their ruling body censured...and the pros should have the final say here...time to change the leaders...it was a disgrace to the game...

The benefactor?...the young gun...Jordan Spieth...who won it...came out of the trailer...stunned...met up with his family...and like the class act he is...thanked all the right people...and showed such great humility...it's what happens...and he now has the 1st 2 legs of the Grand Slam of Golf...reminder, he won the Masters...and off he goes to the British Open...to try to get leg 3...

Not that this tourney didn't have high drama...and great story lines...they always do...but it's sad to say that many of them, had to do with the USGA...and it's course...and not with the players and THEIR golf...it's like watching a basketball game and in the aftermath, talking about the floor, or the referees, and NOT the play of the players...

Sad...
